Those who don't know my story- was brought up a JW, married young (dumb idea), divorced, kinda fell for the 1st person that came along, THAT didnt work, now kinda sat pondering where the hell the past decade has gone! I'm on the hunt for some of my old friends, both people that have had the sense the leave the JW's as well as my old mates from school and college that were good friends- and must of put up with some weird behavior from me (no xmas and birthday cards, no attending of birthday parties etc etc). I've managed to get into contact with one or 2 which is great, especially one who asked if I was still aa JW , which I was so pleased to be aable to say I wasn't!! Just wondered if anyone else has gone thru the same process and if you've had much success?

What do you miss from yesteryear?
by greendawn ini met a childhood friend recently and he told me with nostalgia that he recalled the childhood days as being very pleasant.
i told him they would be since we were living under the protection of our parents who took care of all our needs and we had no worries about anything.
it would be like paradise.

What Do You Do for Work / Career?
by BlackPearl ini've been on the board for quite a while now and was wondering, what do my fellow jwdr's do for work, employment or career?
me, i'm in probably one of the most hated careers in america right now.
(not gonna tell you what it is either) but how about you, what do you do to earn a little coin?.

What affected you more, growing up in the cult, or a dysfunctional family?
by Bumble Bee ini think for me, it was the dysfunctional family.
things from my childhood are finally getting to me.
i've tried for so long to just push them to the back of my mind.

I think theres an argument that every family in the cult are in some way dysfunctional.
For me I think it was the cult affecting my family that made things turn out the way they did. As it is now, I have my dad and my brother left in the cult and a brother, a sister and my mum are free.

Has anyone found dating as an EX JW difficult?
by sweetstuff injust curious as to what difficulties have faced people dating as an ex jw.
myself, i have noticed the glazed over look in a guy's eyes when you try to explain why your family doesn't celebrate the holidays with you etc.
new to this board, so if this has been well covered before, please forgive me.

There were some weird moments, especially to start with. I'm now with another ex-JW so we both know exactly where we are coming from- its great.

Merry Becomes A Muslim (a bit long)
by Merry Magdalene inwho is merry?
i was born in 1965, the same year that malcolm x was assassinated.
my father had committed suicide a few months into my mother's pregnancy so we lived with her parents until she married again when i was about 18 months old.

Wow. You dont get many threads like this come up!
Firstly Merry. thie important thing is you are happy. Simple as that really. Good on you!!!
Secondly, while I have absolutley no interest in organised religion now, it was quite refreshing to have someone explain where they are coming from without ramming it down your throat! And, while I'm not interested, you get a HUGE amount of respect from me for the way you delivered it.
So, sincerely, all the best Merry, I hope Islam continues to make you happy and give you what you need.

"Apostates end up bitter and angry"
by XBEHERE ini actually attended the bookstudy on friday, don't ask me why.
anyway the revelation book is being considered and we're at the paragraph where the congregation in ephesus is comended for "not bearing bad men.." apostates.. .
the comments from the ones attending were so baised and ignorant.

Im not pissed or angry or even that bitter. If anything i pity the JW's still under the rule of the FDS.

Getting married
by sammielee24 inagain!
hugh hefner is getting married again - he's 80 - his bride to be is 27 - one of his 3 girlfriends off his reality tv show.
she wants kids and he thinks that at last he's found 'the one'!

I guess the question for the girl is- what do you find attractive about multi-millionaire Hugh Heffner?
A question for all women= 'would' you?
