If you don't think God answers prayer, read the biography of George Muller.

If you still pray, what do you get out of it?
by JH in.
once in a while, not often, i might fell like saying a few words to god in prayer, but i don't do it, knowing that it's a waste of time, because it won't make a difference..

Lost Light,
You have figured out the WT correctly. They are truly responsible for destroying the faith of many.
You may also want to read In Search of Christian Freedom by Ray Franz. It may help you to find the relationship that is available to everyone with the Father and Jesus.
Revelation 3:20 says that if we want Jesus in our life, He is waiting for us to open the door to Him.
I resigned as an elder 4 years ago and have been on a wonderful Christian Journey, outside the framework of organized religion.
I wish you God's blessing on your journey.NMM

What is now the most accurate Bible to buy??
by WingCommander innow that i've read ray franz's part about how his uncle and others with little actual greek or hebrew training translated the bible into the nwt, i've been interested in finding the best bible out there is correctly translated by people who know what the hell they are talking about.
niv?
i've also been looking at other religions lately, ones that are "somewhat" close to the jw's teachings to an extent, and have been interested in seventh day adventists.

Wing Commander,
I have 3 favorite translations. The Nelson Study Bible is the New King James Version, and is excellent for
cross references and study information. The New American Standard Version is one of the most accurate, using
the most recent finds in old manuscripts. The New Jerusalem is my favorite for just reading.
Also, read others as well. You may like another one better for yourself.
Just avoid the New World Translation. It's a poor excuse for a Bible.
As far as a Church to attend, take up the matter in prayer.
As a heads up, the Seventh Day Adventists share a common beginning with JW's with the
1840's teachings of William Miller, concerning predicting end times. One sign of a good church is one that is founded on prayer and is free from rules which go beyond the Scriptures.

4 years ago I was conducting the Watchtower study and giving public talks from the WT outlines.
I'm now an associate pastor in a community church.
When I get the opportunity to preach, the sermon ideas are the result of daily
Bible reading and prayer about what to preach. I use almost no notes. It's an incredible difference. God truly answers the prayers of those who want to
know Him. -

Did any of you head off to University after leaving the org
by yaddayadda inone of my biggest regrets is not getting a degree, due to the jw brain-washing against higher education.
i feel a strong sense of never having reached my academic potential and having been restricted in many ways by this.
i was a high achiever at high school + some teachers were bemused that i never went on to varsity.

I earned a Bachelor's degree in Christian Counseling from a seminary.
I'm now working on a master's degree in religion.
It's great to finally understand the Bible the way it was written.

by Golf inwhat are your favorite notable bible passages, why and how does it affect your life?

Revelation 3:20 "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me."
All we have to do to have Jesus in our life is ask.

Welcome tall penguin!
You are at the beginning of a wonderful spiritual road.
Keep in close touch with God in prayer and He will bless you.
Get a good study Bible if you don't have one already.I have found that reading the biographies of missionaries such as
George Muller, William Booth and Gladys Aylward are an excellent
way of seeing a true Christian walk with God in modern times.Blessings,
Pastor Ron

Pastor's Meeting
by NoMoreMeetings inlast week i had the opportunity to address 75 pastors about my experience.
as a third generation jw.
i had been an elder until walking away 3 years ago.

Thanks for the positive response.
Many pastors and their wives turned JW's away when they called in the door to door work.
I told them that they were missing an opportunity to plant a seed of truth in them.
It is important to break down the wall of the "faithful slave" between the JW and Christ.Next time a JW calls on them, they will share the Gospel.

Last week I had the opportunity to address 75 pastors about my experience
as a third generation JW. I had been an elder until walking away 3 years ago. In 1994, my 16 year
old son died of leukemia after refusing blood, including fractions that were later allowed
in the June 15, 2000 Watchtower, which caused an examination of my JW beliefs.
I am now a pastor in a community church and have found this to be a great blessing.
Much interest was generated with the pastors in arranging groups of churches around the country to hear me share
my experiences in their area.I'll keep you posted.
