our species is evolveing consciousness for its survival,,our minds will expand to greater understandings because our spiecies is driven by evolutionary forces to love it when we understand things.. this drive is more powerful than sex.
and i really beleive our species will survive and we will use modern technology(also a product of evolution) to help us because that is what it is there for we made it and we will use it.
we are driven to learn and i think we will even tame the ego, to keep learning more and more.
Personally I find that our consciousness as a whole has diminished. Indigenous peoples appear to have had a much greater understanding of our place in the universe. Western science has answered many questions but has left a tasteless and possibly soulless world. I don't believe the internet will improve this at this stage at least.
Myth and mystery seem to be part of the human condition. Let's hope the pendulum starts to swing to the centre, a mix of technology and mysticism.

The joke about stealing is too true. I knew a family who used the door to door knocking as a way of finding antiques. They would find frail old people and harrass them literally to the point of terror until they sold the sort after articles. The elders were informed. Nothing was done.Why? The guy doing the harrassing was an elder........
when i was growing up as a jw i had (as most others) a masturbation 'problem'.. the broblem more was that i felt guilty, and not happy.
this caused my concience to grow very weak.
because of this repressed desires etc, i would have done anything for a woman.

It appears from earlier responses that some current jws have taken up a different form of wanking as they got older.

i'm in field service today and i'm not even the guy that took the group out, as a matter of fact, i show up late today as usual.
well anyway, i'm assigned to be on another street with my mother and some other witnesses.
at this point i'm the only brother because the other guy hasn't shown up yet.
Maybe next time you could say "Have you considered smoking marijuana for your stress and small minded attitude?"

my wife is involved with jws, and i want to find out what they believe, things they do or will not do, that i can present to her in the hope that it will convince her that the jw lifestyle is not for her.
i found out a few things already, like blood and yoga which i told her about, but she was unphased.
("i've never needed a transfusion before anyway, and besides, they told me that doctors have blood substitute now".
The ATTRACTION of the jws is the ability to step out of mundane or stressful life. Others make decisions for you,your future is explained. It is all so simple after all.
This is also the cause of its demise. You cannot think independently, if you don't follow the letter of the (current) law ,you are a bad associate or removed entirely. The simplistic, down home explanations for the world situation, past, present and future will eventually drive an honest hearted person to DISTRACTION.

i just answered a question "off the top of my head" to a question which brought to my mind something that i heard at a talk at our assembly that has "bothered" me and i am hoping for some clarification as i would never want to be accused of what this topic is about .... .
it was a talk at our recent assembly that brought out a 'new one' for me ...or perhaps i just haven't heard of it as yet ... .

my wifes study partner sent her a poem today.

my wife has been skipping meetings and not been doing much studying lately.
Ain't he a loving god? And what a bunch of loving followers.
now that i'm totally free of the wt & it's indoctrination, standing alone not sure of my purpose in life, not sure where to turn to.
i still believe in god but find myself on the verge/or perhaps already questioning him.

I agree with so much of the above. Once we get around the idea of an all powerful parentlike god, we are left with the inescapable fact that we are gods of our own destiny. Ultimately if all were personally responsible for their thoughts and actions, the world would have real peace and security. No need of bibles commandments laws.
