The 'Global Assistance' letter tries to dress up 'give us more money' as 'assisting with disasters', but then it states that "contributions are not restricted to any one activity," so it's not really a 'global assistance' fund at all. It's just more money for Watch Tower. -

From the 'answer sheet'...
Why were the Israelites who did not volunteer to return to Jerusalem not necessarily weak in faith? (Ezr 1:3-6) [Jan. 18, w06 1/15 17 ¶5; 19 ¶1] Some Israelites may not have returned to Jerusalem because they were materialistic or lacked appreciation for true worship, but this was not true in every case. The 1,000-mile (1,600 km) journey to Jerusalem took four or five months. Moreover, settling in a land that had remained desolate for 70 years and doing the rebuilding work there would require much physical stamina. Therefore, unfavorable circumstances, such as physical ailments, advanced age, and family obligations, undoubtedly prevented some from returning. Like some of the Israelites who remained in Babylon, many of Jehovah’s Witnesses cannot take up the full-time ministry or serve where the need is greater. Yet, they support and encourage those who can and make voluntary donations to further the Kingdom-preaching and disciple-making work.
Only the Watch Tower Society could turn 'not all Jews returned from Babylon to Jerusalem' into 'give us more money'.

No longer qualifies to share in the ministry?
by StephaneLaliberte ini heard that co's were provided with a talk outline in which people who dress and act too "gay" could eventually "no longer qualify to share in the ministry", should they not change the way they look!.
has anyone else ever heard of any other reason for which someone would be disqualified from the ministry?.

We had a case here locally where a DFd person insisted on going out in service.
The branch was consulted and they said - "leave them alone".Sounds like advice they would get from the legal department. Whilst they can say who is welcome at a meeting for field service, they are not allowed to harass other individuals engaged in some form of 'door-to-door work' even if it resembles their own. They have absolutely no say on whether non-JWs want to similarly waste their time 'preaching'. (They also have no legal right to tell JWs that they can't preach, although they might impose religious sanctions.)
So......if there is now a dress code that is really a 180 from the former stance.
It is not a change in stance. The situations are quite different. Imposing some kind of dress code or behavioral code on those who are welcome to engage in their 'work' with other JWs is not related to non-members doing something on their own.

The right to shun - wrong?
by Simon inmany people are understandably upset and angry at the notion that jws have the right to shun people.
it seems such an obvious "no brainer" cruel and inhuman thing to do - it must be wrong ... surely?.
of course we look at things from the perspective of those hurt and harmed by shunning.

Simon:
What would the legislation look like? How would it be worded to only apply to religious shunning?
There is no reason why such legislation would need to apply only to "religious shunning". It would apply to organizations that direct people to shun others.
Would it be of any value if people were still shunned? What would the penalties be?
Similar to other anti-discrimination laws.
Would it mean people who should be shunned couldn't be? (e.g. child molesters)
People should be given specific warnings about individuals who may pose a threat to society (or to vulnerable groups in society) and individuals can then make their own informed decisions about who they associate with, but that doesn't mean that certain people 'should' categorically be 'shunned'.
There's a big difference between "keep children away from A because he's a convicted child molester" and "don't talk to A because we said so".

Simon:
Everyone has to have the right to shun people. There is simply no way on earth that the opposite can be legislated for.
Whilst it is extraordinarily unlikely that legislation would be introduced to ban shunning, it is entirely possible to introduce legislation that prevents organisations from directing its members to shun people.
JWs shun because they are told to.

Cedars leaked letter requested to be taken down by WTBTS
by umbertoecho ini don't know if this is already posted so sorry people if it is.
cedars site has had a request to take down the leaked letter regarding changes to the theocratic ministry school and other issues.. the reason given by wt is that it is a "copyright" issue.
of course this validates the letters authenticity even more.. have a good day or night people.

Village Idiot:
Are those letters copyrighted?
Copyright implicitly applies to any original work, and does not have to be registered. Copyright can therefore be asserted for the letter.

It is really amazing to me how normal good folks like the ones on this discussion board could have suffered so much from deception by their leaders in the Watchtower, only to put full trust in seemingly every band wagon that comes down the pike.
- Correlation fallacy - faulty implication that 'Watchtower deception' has any bearing on accepting climate science
- Ad hominem - ignoring view of 99% of climate scientists and focusing on forum members instead
- Sweeping generalisation - recognising global warming supposedly means accepting everything

Nope. The blogger conflates reviews of estimates with assumptions about actual numbers.
