It just reinforces my reasons for having left. Most of the comments I hear from JW's now are very familiar, I used the same "reasoning" when I was one.
I remember once being at a door and the guy telling me that I was young and needed to "look into" my religion and see the reality. I used the same reasoning I hear JW's use now and he was just shaking his head. Now I know what he was thinking and how foolish I sounded to him. I realize now how I was just repeating what I was taught to repeat, and that in light of all the facts, it really sounded dumb. Listening to JW's now just reinforces to me how wrong and blind I was back then.

JWs and Lawsuits
by Jeannine inanother jw thing that boggles my mind...... my mother-in-law, a super-jw, was crossing the street when she was hit by a car.
she was fortunate enough to sustain very minor injury (bruises and maybe a minor sprain or two).
i would describe the accident as very minor.

I never heard much said about lawsuits against NON-jw's. It's when you file suit against another jw that the elders have something to say.
I once got a letter from another brother's lawyer (he thought I owed him money) and I had my lawyer answer it. Then I was accused (by the elders) of bringing lawyers into the situation. -

If you had the job to decide who will be saved or not at Armageddon...
by JH in.
what would you look at?.

If I believed the JW interpretation:
To make it fair, I'd allow everyone to survive armageddon. Why should people only at that time in history be judged in their imperfect state and under the influence of Satan, when the resurrected ones have not been judged yet and will be judged when perfect and not under the influence of Satan?
I don't see how it's fair that only some people (people living at the time of armageddon) will be judged under their imperfect circumstances and condition, but the rest will be judged when perfect. I'd give everyone the same chance. -

The films I saw in school in driver's education class were all about 30 years old at the time. I would think they have enough old video to show without showing recent stuff that people might be familiar with. Also, I was in a class specifically for driver's education and also had the opportunity to NOT view the films.
It seems a not very well thought out presentation to me, and also a few years too early to be showing it to 12 year olds. -

Feeling like chopped liver.
by bebu inmy son's best friend's parents attend a really whacky religious group, similar in some respects to the jws.
simply replace armageddon with hell, and there ya go!
i have just shrugged at it; they've been nice enough to me, very friendly.. this evening, their son asked me if he might be able to spend the night and go with my son to the youth group at our church in the morning.

You're right, it does sound a bit like JW's. I feel sorry for the kid.
I wonder if this resembles their church, as theyseem to be terrified of God:

Did you enjoy being a JW?
by JH inevery time i went to a meeting, book study, or whatever, the great majority of people looked as if they were truly happy to be a jw.
their smiles looked genuine.
they seemed to love talking to each other.. i, on the other hand, wasn't really happy to be at the meetings.

As a kid I really enjoyed it. The meetings were boring, but I quickly got some responsibility (adjusting the volume for the microphones and playing the records) so that made it fun. That's where all my friends were.
I was never bothered by what I missed at school because I was a jw. When I was depressed I actually looked forward to meeting nights and it would get me out of the depression.
But as an adult, I was bored to death. Then once I had a child it was terrible. Only then did I see what it does to a child. My daughter didn't take to it like I did at all. She hated it. She was so happy when I said that it's over, we're not going to do this anymore. -

I'm one of those people that is told "You can eat whatever you want and never gain weight". Well, I've always figured maybe it's WHAT I eat and not how much I eat. I eat lots of vegetables, beans, soups and oatmeal. I don't eat much deserts or fast food at all. Never have. Seems to work for me.
My daughter was getting quite heavy when I was still married. My wife brought home lots of fast food and ate lots of ice cream and those types of things, she didn't like the food I ate. Since she left, my daughter has grown about 5 inches in height and weighs about 10 pounds less than she did 2 years ago. That sort of reinforced to me that the right foods was the key, not how much food.
Just my observation. Of course I could be wrong, it's happened before... -

Bend, Oregon: is a new volcano in the making?
by Nathan Natas inhttp://www.oregonlive.com/news/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/front_page/112591804578620.xml&coll=7
scientists speculate on curious bulge near south sister
it could be nothing, it could be a volcano in the making; geologists can do little more than keep tabs as part of the desert slowly rises .
