I got one of those calls at work a few years ago. She called and said she saw the number on her missed calls and wanted to know if we're a business and why we're calling her. She proceeds to tell me that she has had her number removed from many lists and she's going to make big trouble for a telemarking company like mine.
Well, we weren't a telemarketing company, and we only did business with other businesses. I told her that and said that someone here must have misdialed a number and then hung up when they heard her voice mail. She didn't believe me and assured me that I'd hear from the authorites as I'm obviously going around the lists and telemarketing. I never heard from anyone about it after that.
Like telemarketing to consumers is a good way to sell wiring harness manufacturing services anyway.

i get up this morning and there's a missed call on my cell phone, a number that i don't recognize, but there's no voice mail.
i did the reverse look up and i have no idea who the hell this person is.

WHAT'S THE PETTIEST THING YOU DID AS A JW?
by steve2 ini snitched on a sister who used to spend a lot of supposed field service time in a local cafe, but she still counted the time.
she was spoken to by a couple of elders and was never seen in that cafe again.
of all the things i did as a "loyal" jw, i feel worst about my snooping on this really nice lady.

I didn't go to a close friends wedding claiming that it was because she was marrying a non-JW.
In reality I had always liked her and her marrying someone was depressing to me. -

despite having left before even being baptized, i would have to say my parents still wholeheartedly believe i will someday come around, .
get baptized, become active and maybe even become an elder !

My family thinks I'm upset because my last cong treated me wrong. It's true that they did, but I was on my way out long before that. They keep telling me to let them know when I'm "ready" and they'll be there to talk to and help me get active again.
They just don't want to believe it as they truly believe I'm going to die at Armageddon. I'm supposed to be the "good" one in the family, oldest of all the grandkids and kids. I'm supposed to live the perfect life and they would never expect me to bring shame on the family. They hide that I'm inactive from others in the family as in reality it's their pride and how THEY look that's most important to them. They have no real concern for how I feel or what I think. They don't listen to a damn thing I say. -

Embarrassing moments at work
by damselfly ini think we need a fun fluffy thread today, so this is my attempt at starting one.
at work we have a big bathtub with air jets.
clients come in for a hydrobath, (hopefully remember their swimsuit 'cause i've seen so many naked people by now it's getting boring), leave and then, oh joy!, i get to clean the tub.

I work at home so I have to go to a customer to embarrass myself.
One time I was flying out of Shanghai after a few weeks working there and I was waiting to pass through immigration. It was taking a long time and a woman came and asked if I was on United flight whatever and I said yes so she took me to the front of the line. A little old Chinese man was there and I was put ahead of him and I said thank you in Chinese (I know almost NO Chinese, just a few phrases). Then he busts out laughing, says something to the woman and she starts laughing, then everyone around me is giggling.
I didn't know what they were laughing about until hours later sitting on the plane I realized that I basically said "You're welcome", as I had used the wrong phrase. I thought it was funny then, but still a bit embarrassing. -

anyone ever find raising children as jw's.....
by orbison11 inwas, at times difficult, due to all the restrictions placed on them, .
which led to strains in the parent/child relationships,,,,,, then years later, after that child had grown and had children,,,had,,,well, come back to you.
i just bought myself a shredder to do some purging of life and paper:).

I felt really bad for her. Talking to the teachers about patriotism and stuff wasn't something I really enjoyed doing either. But her having to be no part of so much stuff at school and only having friends at the KH was hard for her. Especially since the kids at the KH didn't like her as we didn't have an endless supply of money like all their families did.
She's doing so much better now, almost a year out. She has friends, she's in clubs, basically living a somewhat normal life now. I know Christmas won't be terribly exciting as I've never done that before and don't really know what I'm doing.
Her mom is df'd and still belives the JW's have "the truth". I can see that it's bothering her how I'm raising our daughter (she doesn't live with us, she lives with her boyfriend). She's keeping quiet because I'm the one raising her, but I'm concerned that she might start something at some point as she really didn't have in mind her daughter NOT being a JW. -

Is there a story behind the beer you drink or is just that it tastes better
by JH insome people drink a certain beer because they really find that it's the best tasting beer on the market, while others drink what their friends or spouse drinks and see no difference, no matter what beer they drink.. when i first started drinking beer when i was in my teens, i drank what my parents had at home.
free beer .
honestly, i used to drink labatts but a friend initiated me to budlight, and i really love that beer now.

I drank the cheap stuff my friend's dad had in his garage when I was a teen.
Now I drink Guiness, and a Black and Tan now and then. -

I've learned some of the many ways the WTBTS has hurt people, ways I couldn't have imagined.
I've learned that some that leave are able to put it behind them and some are not.
I've learned that those that leave have all sorts of different views of God (or no God) now.
I've learned that some become very open after a life of rigid thinking that "we're right".
I've learned that some maintain a very rigid way of thinking and still think that they are right and if you don't agree that you're stupid. -

Singing out. . .
by John Doe inwere there any folks in your congregation that had really big voices, no pitch, and a tone-deaf ear?
we had a whole family of them.
i recall one night the wife was particularly off key--even going on past when the music stopped, getting off on the wrong line, etc.

When I lived in Kentucky, we really sang out. Most of the cong did and some were very good. The ones that weren't were drowned out by how loud everyone sang.
When I moved back here, people barely sing at all. At the first meeting I was way loud and had to learn to back off the volume. I don't sing all that well, but I usually can hit the proper notes.
