Wow, I feel lucky.
I work at home. I spend about $20/month on gas. Taking my daughter to school, shopping and running around town.
Changes in gas prices have had almost no effect on me.

i was surprised to learn that we cover up child molesters, especially since it was announced that we should report child abuse accusations to the police.

Just got this email from a JW about an hour ago:
"I just went to an anti-JW site. I was surprised to learn that we cover up child molesters, especially since it was announced that we should report child abuse accusations to the police. The only thing the posts had remotely correct was that a person doesn't get disfellowshipped unless he (assuming its a he) admits wrongdoing, or there is more than one person accusing him."
Did I miss something? This is the first time I've heard they're encouraged to report to the police. -

God and Bin Laden - why dont you hate them both?
by donkey inbin laden was responsible for the attacks on 9/11 in which thousands lost their lives.
katrina was an act of god.
not only has katrina also killed thousands it has also destroyed the homes and jobs of hundreds of thousands.

---"ACtually, they might be the same person. Have you seen both of them in the same room together?"---
I seem to remember an old news video of them meeting and God was telling Bin Laden how lame his attacks are. God was going on and on bragging how he could kill only the firstborn sons in a city, or how he could just destroy all the crops, or how he could make it rain fire and sulphur.
Bin Laden looked pretty embarrassed. He was bragging on some things, but God just had this smirk on his face.
The last part I remember is God saying "Two whole buildings, huh? Wow, real impressive. How does 6,000,000,000 people all at once sound? Yeah, you know I can do it! Just you wait!" -

Faking time cards
by mkr32208 ini wonder if those of us who have simply faded started sending in time cards that we just made up.
you know massive placements hundreds of return visits if they would count them or just toss them out?
also how hard would it be to set up a ficticius congregation with all of us as members?

I made up stuff for a while on my card, then stopped turning one in entirely.
---""Where would I go?" she says to me."---
Yeah, I hear that too. So if someone is in an abusive marriage they can't leave until they find a replacement? -

Startin' Off Vacation with a Crying Jag!
by Ingenuous ini've been too afraid to go to my parents' place to see them since my last encounter with my dad.
my dad came by this morning to talk.. 90% of it went pretty well.. i gave him a letter i'd composed to give to the brothers in lieu of meeting with them (i don't have the emotional wherewithal to do it, besides having no intention of giving them the satisfaction).
it described the things taught by the org that bothered my conscience - not all of the things, but those things that prompted me to quit service and meetings: the org's insistence on prophesying, its insistence on jws accepting everything they teach to remain "christians", policies which cost lives then are changed (e.g., blood, organ transplants), the "no mediator for the great crowd" teaching, 607 bce, the un fiasco.. in addition to agreeing that these are important issues that deserve answers, he stated that he felt the org did too much "talking" (putting thousands of pages of their perspective into print) and that they were constantly sticking their nose into things they shouldn't be (i.e., prophesying the end of the world).

He really seems to be putting some effort into showing some understanding. That's great! I hope it continues. I wouldn't push too hard to try to force him to understand and agree with everything since he's shown some flexibility. Maybe move slowly and not make him feel forced to give up on you.
Just my opinion... -

Would you buy a new car on a 60 month loan?
by Elsewhere ini have never done a 60 month loan and i have sworn i never would... but with how much cars are costing these days i'm wondering if i will have to do a 60 month loan on my next car.
that is five frigg'in years!
i paid cash for my last car ($4,500 - 1999 ford contour se, used) so i had no payments to make.

I like to keep cars until they're just about dead. I used to buy new cars but it was just a constant outflow of money every month. I find it much cheaper to get my car repaired as necessary, even if it might cost $1,000 to get the work done. That's just a few car payments and since I have no payments in the end I save alot of money.
Last time I figured it out, if I average my repairs over time, I spend about $45/month in repairs. That's much cheaper than a car payment.
But that's just me, not everyone is happy to drive around a 10 year old car they bought for $900. But consider I get 35-40mpg, have no payments, and trust the car to take me across the U.S. at any given time, what's the real difference? -

Fish, both raw and cooked, prepared many different ways in Asia.
Once had a liquor in Taiwan that had lobster blood in it. -

Are you a blood donor?
by TonyT ina couple of years ago, the red cross had several blood donation trailers set up at a festival .
since i had time to kill, i donated.
it seems like there is always a critical blood supply shortage hard to deal with?
-
thom
Whenever I have blood drawn I just about pass out for the next 20 minutes. It's a miserable thing to me. I have no other reason that that for not donating, I really don't plan to try.
Instead I donate money to the Red Cross and other organizations. I've donated my time in the past helping organize people evacuated due to fires here. I try to do my part, but donating blood just doesn't seem to be a part I can play. (Because I'm a big baby) -

How do you imagine the world 10 years from now?
by JH ini think that 10 years from here, we still won't be in the jw new system.
i also think that gas will cost 4 times what we pay now.. many more natural disasters will happen, like the tsunami and hurricane in new orleans.. there will be a financial crash .
living conditions will be harder, less clean water, more pollution.

I think there will be about 10,000,000 JW's. Still believing pretty much as they do now. Finding only the bad in the world and using it to prove they're near the end.
More alternative fuel cars, but not all that many. Political climate and weather still similar to today.
Faster internet access and an internet much more heavily monitored. Microsoft continuing to develop "features" in their OS to make it easy to track people and give up private information.
