Is there a serious weakness in the Watchtower Society's legal position?

the watchtower society is good at intimidation.

it uses fear to maintain control of it's members, including fear of being destroyed at armageddon and fear of shunning and being rejected by family and friends.

they even try to intimidate former members by threatening them with lawsuits over copyright issues, as an example.

I'M SO sick of their freedom and tax free status. If I have to hear the lawyer tell me one more time that the courts don't want to touch religious matters with ten foot polls because NO ONE IS FORCED TO JOIN, BE A MEMBER, not take a transfusion and they don't hold a gun to your head making you attend, join, etc., and you have the right to walk away. yeah, WRONG!!! I don't care what the hay this country was founded on but this is a BIGGEE being founded on freedom of religion (GAG ME) --- they need to protect the people AND THEY WON'T when it comes to this evil. there has to be a loophole that adherents are deceived before joining or something.

I also wish I could turn off my brain

these days my thoughts are driving me nuts.

i need a break from my mind.. since i split up with bf i haven't eaten or slept well and all the thoughts running through my head, abt what went wrong, abt the future etc etc., that just won't leave me alone makes me so anxious.

how to turn off the brain?

Newborn -- sounds like you are on the right track (believe it or not) by keeping busy, no matter how difficult. unfortunately, we go through these 4 or 5 (think it's five) processes or stages whenever we go thru a LOSS --- even a minor one, but especially a significant loss like relationships. you need to go thru the anger, depression, acceptance, denial and bargaining (maybe postponing the breakup or dealing a different form of the relationship --- so we won't have to SUFFER the loss) to some extent to heal, as ugly as it is. reality of what's happened is hard to surrender to but it's what we must face and cry, moan, whatever, about. it won't last forever but must be worked thru.

group support will help and if you've insurance, there's therapy and time.

My mom throws a not so subtle threat my way

my fade is going well, but my mom knows full well what my thoughts are on the wts.

it seems that she feels comfortable just ignoring the situation in order to keep seeing her grandchildren.. the other day however we were talking about someone we know who is making it very difficult for her parents to see their grandchild.. then out of the blue, my mom turns in my direction and says, that if any of her kids try to deny her from seeing her grandchildren, she would take them to court and get a court order to force them to let her see them.. i know what the message was, and it was loud and clear.

she is letting me know that if i get disfellowshipped there's no way i can keep the kids away from her.

grandparents do not have RIGHTS according to my husband (lawyer) --- can't remember what he said about california, but i don't think so even though they have grandparents day or something. it's more of a holiday idea. you are the parent and it's your decision who/where/why they will spend time with.

great advice --- i'd only add in the event you're emotionally tied (and this is killing you having to leave her because you still love her or are addicted to her, whatever) go online under cOda.org and get to a meeting --- even if you blow town you might want to check this group out. it's a support group that offers info to help you especially w/rage-aholics and manipulative, people. i know several people have benefitted greatly w/this in addition to one on one counseling.

ME, TOO. i really don't have time for this trying thusly to click titles most interesting and find my 2nd choice titles are unbelievable reading. i even want to give the site to my friends (worldly) instead of their only having mundane emails we send around --- but i don't want to end of talking about w/tower when i'm socializing.

if i'm being completely honest with myself, there is a short list of folks who i haven't forgiven.

undercover -- i can relate w/every word you've typed. it's so hard to forgive and realize, ONCE AGAIN, it's never gonna change. giving up the dreams/fantasies of a good relationship w/toxic individuals is difficult (i know in my case) and there are only so many boundaries we can have.

latest pew research reveals that 18-29 year olds now use the internet as their primary source of news.
