there are close to 7 million baptised jehovah's witnesses in the world.
most start off real zealous in meeting attendance and preaching work.
some remain zealous but most cool off sooner or later.
If zealous = ardent in field service, which I think it must in JW land, the numbers are low. From my experience, most hated the service and went because they had to for various reasons. For elders it was to keep their position, for others it allowed the I am better than some, who do less than I do, even if they were comparing themselves, possibly a non-working sister with no children with one who had to work part time and had five kids (just a silly example) but close to some actual situations in the borg.
this must have been mentioned before,but now reniaa is back it could be fun.. if jw's are even part way to the truth,and all other religions are false, then they must have a doctrine that is unique to them,given by holy spirit, but plainly taught in the bible,without resorting to fancifull exegesis and bouncing around from verse to verse out of context etc.. what is that doctrine?.

reaiaa: the reason Russell didn't/couldn't accept the hell fire doctrine was the fact that it went against his understanding of his god being a loving god. Today Jehovah's witnesses believe that russell's loving god is going to obliterate billion's; men , women, children, including obviously pregnant women with their unborn. How do you feel russell would have felt about that?

i have been 'out' for a very long time - and so have not looked at any wtbts books or magazines in a very long time.. recently, i went to a group on facebook - where there were posted a few drawings that have appeared in wt publications through the years.
i recognize one or two (one purple one from the 'paradise' book).. the one thing that stands out to me - now - is that the men, after the big 'a' are nicely dressed... slacks, shirt, pull-over perhaps... but no neckties.. so.

So my dear husband has been studying for a few months now. He is attending all the meetings and is making comments. He has expressed his desire to become an unbaptized publisher. The elder he spoke with mentioned that he would have to shave his pinch (a moustache and a beard that covers only the chin that is always well trimmed). I have tried to find information about this but have been unsuccessful. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I understand that in the past (in the pre-90’
s) there may have been concern with a beard looking ‘bikerish’ or worldly, but beards have become more popular and more accepted as of late. So tell me, is shaving a requirement of being a publisher? Perhaps I am too attached to the beard? My husband isn’t sure he likes the idea either.

I am amazed that this issue resulted in so many responses whereas when there is a serious doctrinal issue raised it goes nowhere.

he was also the responsible person for many of the wt sponsored websites on jw in the 'third reich'!.

stories such as lord of the rings and narnia always have some prophecy which usually involves some decendent of whoever becoming king and then everything being ok, yada yada yada.
they never explain how it works ... because of course it cannot be explained - there is just some 'magic' that makes things work out.. of course the bible is the ultimate story jam packed full of prophecies.
so, for the people who believe it, what are the implications?.
I find it interesting how this God who becomes so prophetic as time goes on, at the very beginning seems to be lacking the ability to even think ahead. Think about his apparent lack of forethought in the very beginning, in the Genisis account. He creates the animal kingdom with the male-female component allowing for self perpetuation but for some reason doesn't provide the same logic to man. Then shortly after the creation of man God notices something. He did not foresee that Adam would feel a lack, not feel fulfilled without a mate. His looking down on the situation is when He becomes aware that there is a problem, that he has overlooked something. Adam is not fulfilled. He gets to examine the animal kingdom but finds no suitable companion (thank goodness). So the prophetic God missed an important aspect of his most important creative work (at least I think we all see it that way), that he would not want to live forever by himself, with only animals for companionship. So much for his being able to foresee the future. That lack might also explain why He did not foresee that the animal kingdom would prefer to eat one another. rather than stick to a vegetarian diet.

Toobad Sosad, you miss one important point. The resurrection of the unrighteous only applies if they croak before the big "A". If they are still alive at that time, sorry they will have a not so good eventuality. They will be slaughtered by an oh so loving "Jehovah". So gotta be focusin on that future life and doin all the good stuff to ensure bein there so as not to get whacked at the big "A".
