important issues. On a yahoo group a "sister" brings up this issue
So my dear husband has been studying for a few months now. He is attending all the meetings and is making comments. He has expressed his desire to become an unbaptized publisher. The elder he spoke with mentioned that he would have to shave his pinch (a moustache and a beard that covers only the chin that is always well trimmed). I have tried to find information about this but have been unsuccessful. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I understand that in the past (in the pre-90’
s) there may have been concern with a beard looking ‘bikerish’ or worldly, but beards have become more popular and more accepted as of late. So tell me, is shaving a requirement of being a publisher? Perhaps I am too attached to the beard? My husband isn’t sure he likes the idea either.
this is part of one response
In one of the talks that is posted (Mozel Mack's Stay at Jehovah's Table) on the site a story was told about a certain brother who was a nBethelite. He preferred to have his hair a little longer. Eventually he was asked to bring it closer to the length that other brothers customarily wore. He refused. He was asked to leave Bethel.
Now he needed a job. He applied for work at Disneyland and was accepted on the condition that he cut his hair. So he did. Just think of this;he wouldn't cut his hair for Jehovah, but he did for Mickey Mouse.
doesn't this response sound like an Urban Legend
I am amazed that this issue resulted in so many responses whereas when there is a serious doctrinal issue raised it goes nowhere.
