The least aluring thing about WT drawings was post armagedon paradise, people out petting smelly lions [and the lions not eating them], every one grinning like inane fools.

WT Armageddon Drawings Described as "Aluring"
by Gerard inthis guy is currently undergoing bible study and before his critical thinking capabilities were utterly destroyed, he seemed to do a bit of research on wtbts on the internet, where he contacted me regarding rand cam shares owned by the wt.
i was happy to answer his questions and gave him some bonus material on the united nation's deal.
some days latter, he wrote back asking me if i considered the jw doctrine to be a cult, so i indulged him and sent him well written documents i found on freeminds.org as well a link to quotes, where he seemed to have spent some time looking at the armageddon picture gallery.

Why do active witnesses frequent the site?
by jimakazi ini'm somewhat currious why active witnesses appear to frequent the site, and if the information on this site causes any to "fade away" or "dis-associate"?.
personally if i have known 18 years ago what i know now i would have been a lot more active in trying to convince all i cared about to leave, instead of fading away [gone with a bang so to speak].
it's funny how when you are in it you can't see it for what it is.

They are getting pretty scary though now with this appostate state of mind crap; why did god give us a mind if we were not to use it? Should anyone trust a self appointed body of old men to do all their thinking for them - men who [if you choose to accept what Ray Franz claims] don't even agree among themselves, or where a majority has to be 2/3rd. Is Jehovahs holy spirit so ineffective that it only reaches 2/3rd of them - is this the so called "light getting brighter". Shouldn't it be all or nothing? What if the holy spriti is having an off day and only 1/2 of them get the divine inspiriation - sorry Jehovah - try again - got to make 2/3rd of us agree.
As I discovered many years agio when my best friend and I "tricked" the elders into making us ministerial servants by increasing our answers at the meeting, going out on the field service more; while at the same time we were drinking and attending dance clubs. Perhaps the holy spirit didn't mind dance clubs? Anyway it was enough to convinve me there was no holy spirit involved, just a bunch of elders [men] rewarding the right "works".

Dude
If you have been on this site and had a little look arround you would rapidly come to the conclusion that the JW's are much less than they claim. So I'm wondering why you would be out witnessing at all; why try and convert people to this religion that is so against free thought, changes it's doctrine like we change our shoes, backed the NAZI's in 34, now claim even fading away is apostacy.
I am have been JW nuetral for 18 years since doing the big "fade" - but now thanks to the WWW I've got the evidence, and I'm "anti". People I care about are still enslaved; thinking they have the "truth" while the real truth is they are wasting their lives.

An idea [Postive Action].
by jimakazi inhaving only recently discovered this site and finally having at my finger tips [the internet is great] compelling evidence that the jw doctines are nothing but the work of men i feel a need to take action.
people i care about are still wasting their lives.
[1] i would like to see some "ready made" resource's that have factual evidence, well articulated, and formated ready for printing that we could use to help current jw's see what is going on.

Having only recently discovered this site and finally having at my finger tips [the internet is great] compelling evidence that the JW doctines are nothing but the work of men I feel a need to take action. People I care about are still wasting their lives.[1] I would like to see some "ready made" resource's that have factual evidence, well articulated, and formated ready for printing that we could use to help current JW's see what is going on. I think the key is not to be seen to attack directly or in a way that is offensive, or that embarasses them. Questioning their key beliefs gets them immediately on the defensive, like suggesting the trinity [which I will never accept] is real, so is to be avoided.
The "blinking light" evidence on the constantly changing postion on the men of Sodom getting a resurection, or not, springs immediately to mind. It is innocent enough, not offensive in any way, but damn it make a good point - with quotes from their own literature.
So what would be effective distribution methods?
[2] I would like to see some "ready made" resource's that are questions or topics that drop JW's into an awkward hole - having to think outisde the narrow scripting of the JW training.
I have some I'd be willing to write up, like my insane headmaster story; I love it because invaribaly they agree with you [the headmaster should be sacked], then you innocently ask what's the difference between what they say Jehovah is doing in terms of the Armagedon. Anyway I'm not going to outline that one here [it's breifly in my very 1st post], but I'm sure we could collectively come up with some effective tools.
[3] For added fun we could add a section on how to drop non witnesses into that same awkward hole, the great thing is that as an ex JW you can have real fun in any conversation where they try and "preach" to you, if they use the bible as their basis [perhaps I'm evil].
Any thoughts?

Abbandon - you have nailed it - good post.
Possibly if he hadn't been raised as a JW he may have been a little more well adjusted and able to cope with his fame. But then again what proper witness would put their kids in the situation the Jacksons were put in. Talk about mixed messages; what happened to "be no part of the world". We were not even allowed to buy Micheal Jackson music [before Thriller] as our elders felt it was too worldly [Michael was apparently a witness in good standing at the time, why wasn't he let loose on the kingdom melodies?], anyway we found Prince with songs like "Darling Niki" to be far more interesting anyway - and now Prince is a Witness! [go figure?]
In many ways Michael is a victim, just as many of us have been. And from the posting I see on this site many of us were damaged, or feel the effects of lost oportunities, or still have baggage - often despite many years of separation from the JW's. I would have thought a little more empathy may be apparent.

You bet.
Religion usually involves faith, faith is defined as belief without evidence.
So with no evidence at all people proceed to kill, convert, argue, fight, distroy families, interfer in politics, stop people thinking, ensalve minds, waste lives, etc.
The world would be a FAR better place, and Humanity would be far better off without it. Love and mutual respect for others, and others viewpoint, nationality, and sexuality, combined with a similar respect for the earth would get us in a FAR better place.

Apostates commit the unforgivable sin and will NOT be resurrected.
by gumby ini posted this on another thread....but as usual, when i posted it, the thread died and so i thought i'd put it under a different subject as it's worth re-reading.. the society has always said nobody is the judge who commits the dreaded...."unforgivable sin", but they sure the hell do not having any trouble making a statement concerning apostates as commiting the unforgivable sin.. 1982 watchtower 4/1 p.26-28 .
" jesus told the unrepentant scribes and pharisees that they and their gentile proselytes were subjects for gehenna or, literally, sons of gehenna.
(matthew 23:15, 33-35; see also john 9:39-41; 15:22-24.

They should have to hand out a warning to all people before they are baptised pointing out if you ever have doubts, start thinking for your-self, or just get fed up with being bored to death 5 times a week and leave ["draw away"] you are effectively "apostate". As such you commit an unforgivable sin, have no hope of a resurection, and that to the witnesses you are as good as dead already.
I'm curious though, if this is so unforgivable why do they try to get us back?
What is so bloody hypocritical is that they accuss other faiths of keeping people through fear, and yet theat is exactly what the JW's are all about. A bunch of often sad people scared to live in case they die, talk about insane.

Question About The Religion
by ImACatholic injehovah's witnesses do not believe or teach some of the very basic tenets of christian doctrine.
1. the trinity.
2. the omnipresence of god.

I'm at an agnostic a stage in my life so I'm pretty cynical. I thnk your fundemental error may be thinking the bible is somehow inspired by God [but I don't knock you for having faith, which is defined in the dictionary as "belief without evidence"]. If the bible is inspried by God, he mellowed a lot about 2000 years ago. If Jesus was God on earth why was he saying "turn the other cheek" where as before it was "kill em, kill em all, eye for an eye etc" Pehaps it was traumatic being born as a person and he developed a little understanding of the human condition??? Does this traumatised state explain why would he call god father [when he was his own father], and pray to god [when he was actually praying to himself] - I can see why you need faith to beleive this. Even my 8 year son who is attending a catholic school has worked out this cannot be right. Hmmmmmmm - trinity - sorry I'm not buying any.
Eternal damnation or heaven?
Wasn't that just the catholic churches scam to keep their member's in fear and poverty, and true beleivers? While the JW's may have "poured water on hell" they have the "die at armagedon with no resurection, or live forever on a paradise earth" which is ment to keep the poor publisher JW's in fear, and poverty, and true beleivers!
At least the last Pope said sorry and admitted their had been some mistakes, I don't see the witnesses Govening Body saying sorry, no the light just gets brighter [or blinks as pointed out on this site]. BUT I can not agree with the Pope forbidding the preists to marry [their is NO biblical basis for this], nor the stance on contraception. Does the zero population growth in Italy [90%+ Catholic] mean that the rythym method of contraception works when you are near the Pope, but in the Philippines [90%+ Catholic] it doesn't work as they are too far away? Or do the Italian Catholics use the pill and condoms?
I have read in the Philippines in full page adverts sponsored by the Catholic church [Cardinal Sin! - I'm not joking] undermining the government efforts to get the people to use contraception [for birth control], and condoms [for disease control]. Does a good confession and a couple of hail mary's will help some poor woman infected with Aids from unprotected sex - oh that's right it saves her imortal soul from hell. I tell my Filippino catholic friends that they should send a fax to the pope along the lines of "God said to go forth and multilply and fill the earth... Great news, Philippines is fill, please send further instructions".
