There is a deepeche mode song called "the policy of truth" which is about how a rigerous application of the truth can really screw things up. I can sort of identify with this like when the elders asked me "have you had sexual relations with your fiance?" I could have lied and said "no, just kissing - you know the normal stuff", instead I stupidly said "yes.

Meat eating preditors will eat grass like a lamb!
by jimakazi ini am always a little pi***d when i see jw illustrations showing lions and tigers in the close vacinity of samll children, lambs and other meaty treats with no safety barriers.
[why this is paradise is beyound me - these anaimals smell].. so if we assume an intelligent creator, why would he create large meat eating preditors if he really ment them to eat grass?
every thing about their make up is about specialistation, from teeth, to jaws, to how their stomachs work.

Every thing about their make up is about specialistation, from teeth, to jaws, to how their stomachs work. Was that why Noah had to take 7 of some anaimals onto the ark - as food for the others.
I've had some dipstick JW's try to tell me they ate grass before the flood, and if was only after god said Noah and co could eat meet that they developed the sharp teeth as a defence agsinst man [dod cows not need a defence]. I love it whern these guys try and think outside the square - the answers are just sooo damn funny.
Also how is the eco system going to balance if every thing eats grass - I tried grass once - and it's didn't taste too good. I am however partial to a good steak, could I eat steak in JW Paradise?
More recently one said this was "figurative" and ment people who were like preditors would peasefully co-exist with the lamblike people [baaaaaa any one?]. Where do they got this stuff?
What do you guys think - another one to raise over the dinner table with those still in the "truth", assuming you are not being shunned.

Hi
We have a "presence" in our house. We call it "our friend". Our firend pulls on door handles, turns on appliences, make footsteps in the hall way, and crys sometimes at night, once hidding my copy of the "Black House" [like put it down, turn and it was gone, to turn up in the ceiling level cubbord that has my Penthouse collection] which showed good taste as it's a sick book. Our firend apparently makes calls to us [no one home, caller ID shows the call from our house, alarm condition shows no one was there]. Once it slammed a door [hard] and there was only me and my kids in the house, sitting at the table looking at the door. In one room TV's flick on and off [with no probelm to the power supply] such that we gave one TV away as broken, and took the new one for repair where no fault was found - my wife and I concluded it was "our friend" and it's stopped messing with the TV.
This can sometime give even me the shivers when I talk about it outisde the house, but our home house has a wonderful feeling, it's not scary at all,and neither my wife or I have any reluctance being here on our own. Mos tpeople who visit comment what a great house it is - yet it is so like many others. A friend who senses sprits feels it is the lost soul of a child and has offered to help it find the light.
We are not sure what to do, so for now have selected to do nothing. We are plaaning to rennovate so i've elft the plans in the lounge to check they meet iour friends approval.
I've told my devout JW parents about this and trhey just don't know what to say - mum has no problems at all [I can see dad is thinking "demon"].

I'm new to the forum and desperate for support
by muse ini will be very brief on my introduction as i need to get straight to the point.
i was raised in the 'truth' from birth.
i got baptized at 16 (elder dad hassled me) and managed to do the 'slow fade' at 18 (it helped that i moved 50 miles away from home).

Hi Muse
I guess I have just been through a similar situation, my mother needed cancer surgery and there was way she would have blood. [Interestingly the surgon wanted to know which type of JW they were, aparently there are those that will and those that won't]. The surgon repsected that they were of the "won't" variety. The medical liason committee provided some additional imformation the medical team asked for, and that was it. There was no talk at all of the medical committee being at the hospital.
Anyway the surgery went well, and they called mum wonder woman because of her rapid recovery [shes in her mid 60's].
At the end of the day any faith is just that, belief without evidence, and as such logical reasoning will not work, so you really only have one chice which is to respect your mum's choice, however nervous you may feel about it. Just let her know that you will support her as your mum no matter what her decision is.
Good luck

When it come to stupid I can't just state one - there are so many....
[1] Getting baptised
[2] Getting baptised to be allowed to date a baptised sister [siad she couldn't date an unbaptised witness], who then wouldn't go out with me anyway, and was DF'd shortly after for having a worldly boyfriend.
[2] Breaking up with my new worldly girlfriend because my dad had just been made an elder [he did a guilt trip thing on me].
[3] Not getting busy with the many attractive women who wanted to corupt a nice innocent JW boy [many years ago].
[4] Not going to university

needs some opinions & advices
by cookiegirlie ini've read some posts here and i could see that you were helping each other so i thought i could post & maybe get some answers :-).
i've known the jws since i was little my mom was going to the kingdom hall but then we stopped cos our life was too complicated and we didn't have time for that thought we kept studying at home with a jw as i got older ( teen years ) i hated the study book but never told my mom or anybody i didn't wanted to hurt my mom i love her so much!.
a few years ago i finally told my mom that i hated to read thoses books because i get so bored & that i wasn't interested in it , i do believe in jehovah's and jesus' existence thought but i so hate what the org ask us to do like don't dress like that , go to meetings .... first reaction i got from my mom was so you wanna die but then after a long talk she understood , no matter what i'll love her forever.

Hi cookiegirl
You need to stop living for your mum and live your own life. I stayed in the JW's for an additional 3 years after I wanted to get out - to avoid dissapointing my parents, and it never gets easier. I know it's hard but you need to be brave and set some limits. Go out when the witnesses come, find some alternative activities.
If you carefully check out some of the less emotive and angry threads here there is some sound stuff on why the JW's can not be right, so that should pretty much convince you that the "death threats" are just a nasty little ruse to instill fear in those who might express doubts - do not fall for it.
God luck.

Eagerness To Shun Bound To Fade
by Englishman inmy own parents gave up shunning me after i was disfellowshipped.
they kept it up for about 3 years and then just sort of gradually folded.
here in wsm, most of the witnesses who remember me can't be arsed with the shunning thang any more.

Family members can still associate with family members but should avoid spritiual fellowship, so when the non JW's get home form the meeting you wouldn't chat about about the great meeting, you could talk about work, cars, news etc.
A JW wife still has to obey her DF'd husband as head of the house, and show respect, as do any children [except where he goes against the JW's like saying don't go to the meeting.. They could not up and leave unless the husband was engaged in conduct that is grounds for divorce.
I know there are JW's who go to extremes but they are out of line, and their conduct should be raised with the elders if this is the case [hey they might get DF'd too!]
The JW religion definately is seriously flawed, but sometime I do wonder if a few of the posters here are really ex JW's, or just people with a big chip on their shoulder messing with those who are still JW's who frequent the site.

Did you ever get a speeding ticket or make an accident, serving Jehovah?
by JH in.
i know an elder who made a couple of accidents and scrapped his car more than once going to the kingdom hall or assembly hall out of town.
i guess that the angels weren't looking after him that day.... i even remember a brother making an accident with another brother in the field service...lol.

[1] Returning from rural field service, and as I passed a tractor it turned without indicationg into the side of our car. No one hurt but car opend up like a sardine tin [perhaps we should have continued for one more door?]
[2] On rural field service and my friend lost it on a gravel road and munted a bank [not speeding].
[3] Going to an assembly, doing 180kph, my brother driving my car [this was in our rebel days]. After some time we noticed a motorcycle that was not vanishing into the distance, slowed down to the legal limit [80kph at the time]. The motocycle cop pulled us over, told my beother it was his lucky day, and let him off with a warning.
Now I hadn't thought of angels helping get off that ticket, my explanation was the cop was gay and fancied my brother!

JWs and the wolves in sheep's clothing
by greendawn inwe correctly believe that the wts is the proverbial wolf in sheep's clothing they talk in a way that makes them appear to be genuinely interested in helping people spiritually (the sheep's clothing) but we then find that they are power intoxicated individuals whose real concern is to abuse and exploit the flock (the real wolf like rapacity)they throw out of the org members for trying to offer constructive criticism they put lots of onerous burdens on their members and do nothing practical to help them, they systematically lie and deceive.
.
how would you elaborate on this subject to prove to a person interested in the jws that they are indeed devilish imposters.

jimakazi
Greendawn;
The problem is that the basic JW publisher believes that it is "the TRUTH" 90% of the time. The other 10% have visited this site and know better
The basic JW published is not allowed to think [independant thinking is discouraged as it can lead to an apostate state of mind], they are in fact sheep [trust me sheep have a very trusting nature and are easily led]; wolves on the other hand are cunning and think quiet well, in this case the so called Governing body may well be the wolves.
