Would I ever "let" someone take my kids away? If I was doing something so stupid that it was going to result in their death, I certainly hope that someone with more sense would step in and protect my kids from my stupidity. I may not appreciate it at the time, and I may rail against it and claim that I have "rights" that are being violated, but I wouldn't want a child of mine to die or be injured because I was too stupid or brainwashed to realize the danger I was putting them in,
Ditto for me. There would have been a time, not that long ago, that I would have let my babies die if the government wouldn't have stepped in and gave them the medically needed treatment. Now I know how misguided this would have been.
Can you imagine the thought processes going on for the devout jw going through this? I'm imagining what it would be like for me. You're taught that you will be "blessed" for putting "kingdom interests" first. So you "sacrifice" your child to receive this blessing. It is not a blessing that is going to happen today (even though you're about to have to face the fact you've martyred you child) but in the future. Jehovah will bring your child back to life in the New System, provided you stay faithful until the end. You think this future is just around "the corner" but it's not. This system keeps going on and on.
You start looking at babies that are around the same age as the one(s) you "sacrificed" to this cult. 5, 10, 15, 20 years pass. You're still waiting on Jehovah. You're still waiting for your blessing. You feel like there's something not quite right, but the HLC committee was right there "helping" you make your "righteous" deciscion, for what you think at the time is God, but later find out is just a book publishing corporation. The HLC committe was Jehovah's "loving arrrangement" for helping you make this godly descision. You really had not much of a choice. Sacrifice your child...make Jehovah happy...Save your child....make Satan happy. It's so crazy!
It was interesting for me to see that when when I had my 2nd baby only 1 elder came to visit me in the hospital. 10 days later when I was having a post partem hemmorage...I had almost every elder, brother, sister, "friend" in the congregation "visiting" me in the hospital. At the time I thought it was strange. Now I know it was because they were watching ME!

The Artist formally known as Prince
by Sasha indid any of you floridians see the article in the palm beach post.?
it seems they were giving a party for prince the other night (he's performing at the super bowl in miami toinght) and he would not show up because there were designs of dragons on the walls.
the article went on to say that prince is a "devoted jehovah's witness" and therefore believes that you can't look upon dragons because it is a symbol of the devil...now, my question is: have any of you current, or former witnesses ever heard of that?

And I am I the only person that finds the idea of the government seizing someone's children, just a little disturbing? And I am I the only person that finds the idea of the government seizing someone's children, just a little disturbing? !
absolutely NOT in this case. Not only from my understanding did the parents agree to reduction should a "litter" occur, having a wee bit of knowlege about the Genesis clinic that helped them conceive, I wonder how they got out of that!
If they took the treatment for fertility...which obviously worked!...they should accept the treatment for their premature infants. These babies are to small to produce their own bone marrow properly, making their blood unable to carry oxygen to where it is needed to live. Obviously, they need blood to live. duh!

My kids' grandfather was an elder...until he had a baby with his pioneer daughter. She was 17, but indicated the abuse had gone on for as long as she can recall - around 4 years old. This was around 1970 in Ontario.
Despite this, when I met the family in 1985, he was again an elder with the local congregation totally unaware of the situation. I wasn't even aware until shortly before my marriage to his son, my now-ex-husband.

What Naughty Things Did You Know Of That Went On In Your Hall?
by minimus inas an elder, i knew a lot of things that happened in the congregation, including "secret sins".
what i also knew was that some persons were quite good at being sneaky----especially the teens.
years after my daughter stopped hanging around certain friends and she was in her 20's, she told me little juicy tidbits of what some of her best friends regularly got away with.

Me...being sexually abused by 2 "brothers"
An elder in my hall stealing from the contribution box...hehe.
My JW mother delivering babies (she was a nurse) with a JW doctor named Dr. Campbell, in Vancouver BC ""underground"" during the '70's to Rh negative moms to avoid the blood issue...until one died (a boy).... and then they hid all the equipment at our home during the investigation!
My ex-father-in-law had a baby with my pioneer ex-sister-in-law...so my children have an aunt who's also their cousin...and yes, there's more.

Disciplining babies?
by bernadette ini'd appreciate advice.. i remember when i was pregnant the following exp was given at a district convention.
an elder said that he started discipling his child from 9 months.
he said whenever the 9 month old made a noise or cried at the meeting he would squeeze her.

"Disciplining Babies" how absolutely crazy!
I'm guilty of doing this to my babies at meetings though.
It is, in my opinion, expected that you keep your kids in check at all times at the meetings no matter what their age. I know now, that it was completely misguided. Children need discipline, babies do not. (I had 6 babies while a jw, 5 of them in 5 1/2 years)
On a lighter note, I think they just may be creating a future apostate. When I was 2 years old my parents asked me why I go to meetings. I think they were expecting a "because I love jehovah'" answer. Instead they got..."to get a spanking." They seemed to think this was funny.
