East-end Vancouver, around 1972-1978. This guy walks in off the street pissed drunk and carrying a gun. Walks up to the speaker (Bill Johnson was his name) and puts the gun up to him and accuses the JWs of stealing his wife. (I was just a kid - but I totally remember this) Bill Johnson`s youngest of 2 daughters screamed something like `daddy, do what he says`. A group of elders, including my dad, grabbed him and held him until police arrived...but, meanwhile, the show went on.

The show must go on..
by outofthebox ini was reading in the spanish forum (http://www.extj.com/foro/showthread.php?t=15396) that an old sister died from a heart atack during the memorial, but that didn't stop the ritual.
i remember a lonley very sick sister calling for help to the kh during an emergency, and the elders told her, they were busy in an elder's meeting.
she almost died and was rushed into the hospital by 'worldy' people.

Help me...
by rafreuter ini wish this weren't the way i greeted the board.
i've been lurking here for about 2 years now, but was unable to really interact because of limitations of my ipod browser (you can't post from there) and the parental controls on my computer.. .
well 2 years later, i'm a big boy, turned 18 and moved out.

Growing up JW (when we were about 5 to 10 yrs old) my bro had a friend who always wanted to be with us, the girls, cooking, sewing, everything girl. I didn't understand it then, but I do now. It makes perfect sense. He's gay. Never a choice he made. He never got baptized, left the jws and lives an openly gay lifestyle. I still love him and his partner is great.
You are who you are. Embrace it. Do not let some man-made religion influence you. Be who you are!

Grow-op next door....shut up...everything's free. I live in BC.
I don't necessarily agree with it. I think it can alter brain chemicals. I think it can encourage lung cancer (working in a medical clinic, I've even seen a 24-year-old pot (and tobacco) smoker die of lung cancer )
Still, I think if alcohol is legal, pot should be too.

Is "The Truth" Killing You, Lurkers?
by metatron inas an elder of many years, i was continually struck with the abundance of chronically ill witnesses whose disease appeared to be related to their own stress at trying to meet the endless demands of the "truth".
i am not a medical professional but i don't need to be a doctor to know that the depression and virtual self loathing ('i'm not good enough, i must do more, i'm a bad parent....") sets a stage for ill health.. and now science backs up that conclusion:.

Yes, the "truth" killed my granny. She used to have her assembly at the Colloseum in Vancouver. Due to the parking/vending/food fiascos the assembly was moved to Kamloops. While in her "society approved" hotel room, she fell and broke her hip...never recovered.

8 years and still no visit. Still residing in the same place...not that they can't find me. I thought they might come around from time to time to "encourage" my children, but that didn't happen either.

misguided, you have a PM. EDIT: I forgot to ask you if anything happened in Calgary. Did a get together work out there? Is it still on? Lemme know.
No, I didn't get to meet up with anyone in Calgary.
My ex-jw friend (since we were 5) who still lives in Vancouver, put together a mini-apostafest together for my birthday a couple of years ago. She's never posted here, but she had an ex-elder from my KH here named Martin Wong, as well as a few others. We should really try to get this thing together.
I'm coming down to the coast on August 26 to 30th to visit my family and friends, and go to the PNE.

As a Witness - What did you Notice in How Elders Got Appointed ?
by flipper ini found it amazing being raised in the witnesses to see exactly who got appointed sometimes as an elder.
it seemed that the criteria in my opinion had more to do with getting 10 hours a month in field service, answering at meetings, carrying microphones as a ministerial servant, or handling the magazine or literature counter !
in doing these " functions " and attending meetings on a regular basis - a man was thought to be considered " spiritually strong " and qualify to be an elder and serve on judicial committees judging people's personal problems.

When I met my 1st husband, a JW, his dad was an elder. Shortly before we were married it came out during one of his older brother's divorces, that he (his dad) had had a baby with his daughter. According to her (the daughter - and she's still JW, this began when she was about 4 years old, and continued until she got pregnant at 17) sometimes the abuse even happened in field service.
He's not an elder now...but how the hell did a known pedophile get appointed to an elder in the 1st place if some holy spirit is working upon the organization....what a farce!

One of my JW friends growing up was a guy who all the girls liked. When we were kindergarteners, he wanted to play dolls with the girls, not rough with my brother and another JW boy his age. He just wanted to play with the girls. He went through a lot of his emotional/spiritual/sexual issues with my understanding brother.
Years later he left the JWs and came out gay. No surprise to us. I'm glad he was true to himself.

I wonder who's going to pay for his BIG ASS Hospital bill?
Our healthcare system. Our tax $$ at work.
