today i caught an interesting segment of the "fresh air" radio show.
bible scholar bart d. ehrman talked about some of the problems with a literal translation of the bible.
although i do not agree with his agnostic view, i was interested enough to pick up a copy of his book today.

i was looking at the news the other day and they had a 100 yr old man that went water-skiing for his 100th birthday.
now i was just thinking like a jw and somehow they might say "that 100 year old man would be of the 1914 generation so there are probably millions like him still alive" so if there is lets say a million 100 year old now living do you think that the wt leaders might think that they abandoned ship to quick when they disregarded the 1914 generation doctrine in 1995?
how many 100 years olds are around today?
I watched a documentary on PBS last night, about Isaac Newton "dark secrets". Apparently he calculated the end of the world, and the Battle of Armageddon for 2060 ! He also came to the conclusion that the Trinity doctrine was wrong, never told anybody of his views on this of course. He would have been burned for blasphemy and heresy.

i am a present studying the book what does the bible really teach,and am unable to counter the bit where they say the new earth is people and not the literal earth,ive pointed out scriptures that say it will be burned up e.c.t.but the guy relates it to noahs day when the earth was not literal earth that was destroyed but the wicked people,he says this is the same with the new world to come,it is the rightouse people, at the moment we agree to disagree but does anyone know a good way to counter this argument.though doing a goggle search on the subject it seems to me that christians have all sorts of veiws on the subject which only leaves me more confused.
Welcome ajie - - - and to answer your question.... Who knows ? The way it's going (over-population, destroying the environment, pollution, nuclear threat, fanatic fundies....) mankind itself will make the earth unfit to live in and will destroy it....

True in what sense? Just a collection of writings from long ago. Nothing supernatural about it. Not "dictated" by God to chosen humans. A group of so-called "Christians" decided which stories would be included in "the Bible", edited some to make them fit their views and doctrines, destroyed others which contradicted their views and doctrines, added and deleted things....

i dont understand that how a religion that douesn't go to war, don't buy guns, they preach for free they dont get paid,there not rasist, they love there neighbors they treat others well, they dont bother you if you dont want them to pass by your house they wont.
why so much hate, if they go strictly by what the bible says.

i've found myself in a not so feel-good situation this morning.
in fact, it happened a few times just this week.
i'm often walking around town or in malls and i happen to pass, make eye contact and smile to people i know arent jws anymore.
Satan does not deserve ANY praise.
Nor does the trigger happy Jehovah.... btw, what has satan ever done that is so bad ? the god of the OT is the evil one, murderer of men, women and children, bloodthirsty, condoning rape of virgins and massacres of innocent people... imo...
