I'd really like to hear somebody actually try to justify this stance. Well, ah doc, you see, it's like this........ I will accept this, this and this, but not this, this and this, because my bible trained conscience tells me that this is okay but that is not okay. Wtf! No wonder the medical profession think all JWs are a bunch of delusional hypocrites . Either you accept blood or you don't.
i always hated the fact that the jws claim they don't take on titles for status and then do just that.

Yes, it has always bothered me. When you start studying with the JWs that is one of the first things they tell you to distinquish themselves from other religions along with no paid clergy, no donations plates being passed, etc., but as you become involved with the congregation you soon realize that these "titles" are very much there and those with such titles don't want you to forget that they possesd them as they hold a prominent position in the congregation.
I also learned that these "titles" are not to be used outside the congregation. For instance, when a worldly relative of mine died I asked a brother (elder) to give the funeral talk. The newspaper printed in the obituary that "elder" so and so would be giving the funeral service. When the brother heard about his title actually being printed in the newpapers there was hell to pay. I was approached and questioned by two "elders" as to how this came about. I being new in the truth did not realize that I should not have said "elder" so and so to the undertaker who was preparing the info for the local newspapers. Well, is that not what he was, as I was so often reminded when I studied with him and his wife? He was constantly referring to himself as "an elder" and his wife as one of "the pioneers".
Also, don't forget about the other title that I don't believe anybody has mentioned yet..."elder's wife".
there are all kinds of people on this planet, from all kinds of backgrounds, and everyone's different.
some are rich, some are poor, some are healthy, some are very sick, some are intelligent, some are very dumb, some are oung some are very old.
when you put all this together, isn't it unreasonable to expect everyone to become jw's, or everyone to become catholic, or everyone to become muslim?.

NSRN, it's too bad the elders didn't give your parents the speaker phone before your mom broke her shoulder. In one of the congregations I attended an elderly sister who could not make the meetings because she was taking care of her unbelieving husband, who was very bad off, could not get a speaker phone because an elder's wife's invalid brother, who wasn't even a baptized witness, had the last available phone or telephone line. I really think that sister who had slaved faithfully for decades should have been given priority over this man who wasn't even a witness. Once again, special treatment for elders and their families.

its ... well, pretty nutty.
Oh my god! A sister gave me this talk on a cassette tape years ago when I first came into the congregation. I thought it was so inspiring when I was a witness and listened to it more than once. Listening to it now makes me realizes what this talk actually does to people in the organization.
First off it makes you think that you have to take all kinds of abuse from the friends and elders because you don't know if you are being tested by Jehovah and you have to endure it because it's a test.
Second, the whole thing about the communist spy infiltrating the organization just to betray the brothers to the communist government made the friends suspicious of the people inside the organization thinking that everybody had an ulterior motive for becoming a witness. Made the friends xenophobes. Why are they here? Do they really love Jehovah or are they just playing along for some selfish motive. Not a healthy talk when I listen to it now.

I recall a discussion between some sisters and the circuit overseer regarding the new understanding about whether those in Sodom and Gommorrha (sp?) would be resurrected. The new understand was that they would be, but only a few years earlier they said they wouldn't be. (They actually reprinted the Live Forever book to make that change.) The society has see-sawed back and forth on this one over the years. The overseer commented about the depth of Jehovah's loving kindness in deciding to resurrect those killed at Sodom and Gomorrha, and the sister commented that, "whatever the new light was on this understanding she wasn't going to question anything the society said". If that's not brainwashed, I don't know what is. I'm sure the understanding on that one has changed yet again. Anyone know what the latest belief is?
i was wondering how common it is for ex-jws to relocate after leaving the borg in order to escape the bad memories of being in a cult, or to break contact with cult members.. i have wanted to move far away for as long as i can remember--even as a kid--for this purpose.
various life circumstances have delayed that--long story--but mr. rebel8 and i are thinking of moving within the next few years.
i am the one who's most interested in moving to a completely different type of place--different culture, different climate, different everything!
I would love to move. I hate running into jw's around town not knowing whether they will speak to me or snub me. My only fear is that I will move to a new town and my new home will be right next to a zealous jw family who have book study at their home and meet there for Saturday service. What a nightmare that would be. Then I'd have to move again!
Speaking of nightmares. Does anybody still have dreams about the witnesses? If so, how do you get them to stop.
so let me see if i got this straight.... to be a publisher you have to have 10 hours a month.
if you miss that target you are "irregular".
if you miss that target for six consecutive months you are "inactive".. what if you get your time in but miss all the meetings?
CYP, back when I was still going to meetings my congregation had a quota of making the national average hours for regular publishers per month. When I first came in it was around 10 or 11 hours per month back in the 1980s, which dropped steadily over the years. The last national average publisher hours before I stop attending in 2000 was around 8.8 or 8.9, I believe. I was told by an elder to at least make the national average hours per month. I have no idea what it is now. It used to be published in the OKM in a little box listing average hours for regular pioneers, auxillary pioneers and publishers for the previous month.
we all know witnesses believe in the paradise.
they make it seem like it will be such a beautiful place free of crime, pollution, sadness,etc.
but, if there was really going to be a paradise here on earth the world as we know it would be so different.
