  the watchtower society dates noah's flood to 2370 b.c.e.

  they do this by following bible chronology quite closely, counting backwards from 607 b.c.e., their date for babylon's destruction of jerusalem.

  however, as we know, the society's date for that event is in error.

  Difficulty of serving on Judicial Committee

  I have a question:

  May an elder be used on a judicial commitee if he was recently reproved privately? Say, within 6-8 months?

  I have heard a story about an elder who 'switched congregations' because of reproof. It seems they can be re-privileged sooner because of a need for elders in another congregation.

  Is this true?

  I have a suspicion that an elder who sat on my judicial commitee had recently been reproved.

  When I first met him, I was still an m.s. He seemed quite closed off to simple polite inquiries. Not rude, but not entirely present.

  There had been a 'great need' for elders, but no one from his hall wanted to come. Flat refusal. Then all of the sudden, here's one. But it took quite a while before they announced his appointment.

  He was much more 'present' and interested in me when it was my turn to get punished.

  Anyhow, no hard feelings, just curious...

  Put your kids' interests ahead of family's well meaning but judgemental interests.

  I have only a subjective idea how the hubby really feels about this, but you can inquire directly. If you both can accept what's happening without remorse or blame, you will find a way to live happily. With or without romance (between you and hubby).

  You're not evil or bad, but you will have a lot of doubts I am sure about why this is happening to you.

  I have so little experience in these matters, but a great amount of sympathy. As your name suggests, you want to be free...

  You will soon learn to enjoy the special way in which you love the people in your life. It may not be exactly what they expect from you, but trust yourself.

  Keep us informed of how you are feeling and ((((welcome)))) <hugs!>

  in 1972 the great irish balladeer don mcclean introduced the song "american pie.

  " it was and still is a classic.

  the song is full of symbolism and even to this day almost thirty years after the song was first introduced, mcclean will not reveal the real meanings behind much of that symbolism.. in that song, he sings about "the day the music died.

  Can you think of a commercial (TV) that has no music?

  there was one here in the US recently...

  It struck me especially because I was only listening to the TV from the other room. But I forget now who made it. Sorry.

  We are such simpletons, aren't we? Buying things because we heard 'jingle bells'!

  perhaps you recall the instance in the bible where samson made a wager with the philistines that they couldnt guess his riddle.

  as it turned out they wheedled the answer out of him by his fiancee, but the point is that they had a wager.

  since the underlying assumption of the apostasy is that we are not living in the last days of this system of things, and that this world is not facing anything remotely like the biblical apocalypse, at least not any time soon, in the spirit of such antagonism, i would like to propose a similar wager.

  Just who 'gave' the name?

  the year 1925 was notable as the year when the wts for the first time proclaimed the importance of the name jehovah, although the watchtower followers were not called jehovah's witnesses until six years later in 1931.. this is claimed by the wts (see proclaimers book, page 152) to be a name given by "divine providence".. this is the teaching given in the knowledge book on page 94, paragraph 12.. a question: since there's much conjecture about the 'proper' name and pronunciation of god's name, some believing that yahweh is the most appropriate, why did an all-knowing god not impart to his f&ds the correct pronunciation.

  if he wanted his followers to be named after himself, then why did he tell them to be called by an erroneous name?.

  interestingly, the proclaimers book itself gives an alternative explanation of the origin of the name jehovah's witnesses:.

  Seems to me that this 'vindication of Jehovah' business is more about protecting the egos of the worshippers.
