Do you think the WTS will ever seriously start DA'ing faders?

some have indicated that this might be coming.

based mostly on the new book - some think maybe the org is positioning itself to remove all possible 'doubters' and 'inside apostates' this way.. i mean - having spent four decades watching the actions of this organization as a witness, i can see something like that happening perhaps.. service meeting announcement;.

having had six months to renew his association actively with jehovah's witnesses, and having not been to a meeting or out in service for that same time span, we must announce that ____________ has left the organization and shown by his actions that he is no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.. the brothers and sisters need to be reiminded that he should be treated 'as a man of the nations' - full shunning is in effect!.

Well, I think they might start doing it to current faders as a way of warning everyone else, but I cant see them going back and making an announcement about historical faders like me.

Only because I think there would be such a long list to read out it would look fanatical, and also would look ever so slightly ridiculously like slamming the stable door years after the horse had bolted. I think that would be counter productive in terms of keeping people in. Also if they did it to all historical faders, well virtually every family still in the hall, including elders, would have relatives names read out. I dont think some people would be too happy about that.

recently, a funeral was held for kenneth taylor of wheaton, illinois who died at age 88. he is the author of the living bible, published by tyndale.

the living bible is often known for being a paraphrased version.

those who have translational concerns do not like some of the liberties taken by the living bible.

If I was going to read any bible, it would be the Living Bible. My mum had a copy for years. I may be wrong but I think its out of print now and you have to buy it second hand. My mum spent ages tracking one down to replace her old one.

What about printing counterfeit tracts with just ever so slight alterations to the wording, to make the sentiments a bit more apostate.

preaching (door to door), commenting, or giving talks?.

i am currently fading away, but i occasionaly go to the meetings, just to show my face from time to time, basically to maintain my relationships with friends and family.

i guess leaving everything, is a jump i am not ready for, just yet.

I successfully faded without being shunned, but it helped that I managed to look like I had victim status (post natal depression and unfaithful husband). The real truth was post natal joy, and a husband who I had made so miserable he was kind of pushed into an affair. I didnt manufacture this for the purpose of fading, but it sure did help.

Can you manage a bit of serious depression? Victim status helps as long as its an 'approved' sort of problem. Cos they always think you might come back once you are over it.

honestly, do you think that jw's really like going to 3 or 4 day assemblies, especially when it's out of town, far away, and you have to take a motel room, and all the gas money and food money it takes, as well as having to sit down all day listening to endless talks...and that for 3 or 4 days in a row.. and often, they have to take a day off from work, to attend the friday meeting, so no pay for that day.. i think that the jw's are glad when it's finally over, not before.. .

My Uncle Mike has a great story about attending an assembly in Scotland, in 1973 I think. They camped (quite a lot of witnesses I knew camped - were all piss poor over here - ive no idea what these 'hotel' things are you keep talking about. And by 'pool' I assume you mean a puddle made by the rain?)

So anyway the weather was shite - like its supposed to be over here, and in the middle of the night there is a godawful tent collapsing storm. Uncle Mike says he spent the WHOLE night holding up the central tent pole, then had to attend the sessions all the next day. Ahh happy days.

I never pulled at an assembly, so I thought they were rubbish. I did watch somebodys dog run into the middle of the Southampton Football Club pitch once (when it used to be at St Marys) and do a quivering crap. LMAO. It was great.

Trying to argue with the trolls is just like being a dub out on the service, only the other way round, but equally headbangingly frustrating. Personally I have had enough of trying to convince people on the other side of the conceptual fence to me. I dont wanna witness anymore for anything.

The trolls are just being silly. Even the Borg tells them not to try and talk to us apostates. Dont they know their own bleedin' rules? So not only are we talking to brainwashed witnoids, we are talking to disobedient brainwashed witnoids who think they know better than the Borg. They BAD witnoids in my book - I shun 'em! YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE IRRITATING FLOWER WOMAN.

it is amazing how many phoney stories end up coming some so many credible sources.

for the dubs, the urban legend serves an important function of protecting and bolstering their faith.

Iggy - I heard that one too, so its got to be true!

I hated the ones that ended in death for disobedience. There was a little dub boy whose parents told him not to cross a certain road, and he did anyway, and he got run over and KILLED. Always used to support the scripture "Children be obedient to your parents". They loved the fact that the kid got killed.

I also hated those ' I left a tract up a donkeys arse and the vet became a dub' ones.

And finally I heard that these stories were made up and spread by brothers from bethel to see how far up country they would get. I think that was an urban myth, and that all the stories were TRUE.

so a few of us have had some very dull jobs - who has had or currently has a job that they love?

Seems to me a job is like an investment - the higher the risk the higher the potential benefits.

I love my job, but it sure has its downsides too. Im a teacher, and its such hard work being abused all day by snotty kids. On the other hand when two kids walk by and one taunts his mate "theres your favourite teacher", and you know its true (because thats your most deserving student) your heart melts.

ever worked in a job that literally bored you too tears.. my job prior to this used to do just that.

somehow i got relegated to the 'reports team'.

note that the team consisted of one person - myself.

Tk - I used to clean windows but I enjoyed it. Course it did help that I was 18 and worked with THE best looking pioneer ever (and was also going out with him). Nothing like a bit of love interest to make them windows go by!

My most boring job was working at the Legal Aid Board. You needed a Law Degree to do it, but it was awful. You had to read the applications people made througjh solicitors, for legal aid. You had less than 2 minutes per application, and you were under pressure all the time to get more and more apps judged in a day.

One day a new manager left a confidential report in the kitchen which said the filing department was taking a disproportionate amount of time off sick. He had written 'why so much time off sick?'. I had done 6 weeks in the filing dept as part of my induction, and knew this job was even more boring and even less paid than mine (those guys didnt need a Law degree to file) - so I put a sticky note on the report which said "its obvious- the job is totally boring and mind numbing. you should try it". He was so pissed off but he couldnt challenge anyone about who had written it because the report was clearly marked Confidential, and shouldnt have been left in the communal kitchen! (SMUG feeling)
