I think it is, he is still an elder and probably even seen as a victim by WTBS. They will never even have a second thought about the possibility that wife found marriage a type of pathological trance greatly perpetrated by either his lack of manhood or other things a man should posses to be seen as any type of a leader at all. Yet for them it is enough if he clocks his hours and brings his heavy ass up on platform. In this so called world such "qualities" would hardly even land him a supervisory position in a factory.

The funny thing about so called Mayan calendar is that it was supposedly predicting the end of the world but never foresaw the end of Mayan civilization. But when you look deeper into it you can see it is no better or worse than other "prophetic" books talking about generalities that had been observed before. Smart people have always known that in time of turmoil things tend to amplify in scope and power so it is not hard to say that there will be war, after which food shortage will follow and then death and diseases. Well just try following it for a moment and you'll see, there is absolutely nothing unusual about it but natural progression of one event after another.
War cost helluva lot, I think Americans are just waking up to the fact of that too, if country is overstretched there is shortage of resources and bottom of society feels it first. As situation continues "bottom" thickens and you start having food shortage. Weak metabolism can't fight diseases and people start dying. The thing is, it never stared as fulfillment of a prophecy but as an idiotic decision of someone to go into a bloody war in the first place.

UFO's, can so many sightings be all wrong, or lies?
by free2beme ini was out hiking in the woods of northern california in the late 80's with a good friend.
at that time, i thought it was cool to just sleep under the stars and enjoy the outdoor experience to the full.
one night, while camping at a lake that was far up in the mountains and had no one else there, but the two of us (was not a broke back mountain moment, sorry to those who might have wondered .

I've seen some interesting footage even recently, but I wouldn't jump the gun and vouch for their authenticity. Top quality UFO shit stirrers are like top quality hackers who think of many different aspects and not only those on surface. Amateur job is easy to see though but when you have someone like the guy who deliberately mixed two videos to create illusion of UFOs forming "crop circles" (see below) many were fooled. But when you put it on telly, with some creepy background music and "retired electrical engineer" (like that means anything lmao) declaring his long standing belief (fantasy) in UFOs people listen. What surprises me rather is that hardly anyone stops to think rationally and if one dares he's a black sheep in a crowd of "well informed"

How Do You Deal With Elders?
like the song goes "You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em. Know when to walk away, and know when to run."
I do not play with cheaters and bluffers if I can avoid it, and since I can, I don't.

I wondered how the Pharaoh felt when his entire empire was crushed
that is a rather bold statement for someone who knows next to nothing about archeology. Only time when Egypt was on its knees were intermediate periods and during reign of Hyksos at least between year 2000BC and 1000BC. Unfortunately for believers crashing of Egypt was supposed to have happened at the time otherwise know as "The Golden Age" of Egypt, during reign of Ramses ll. Like saying, market crashed at the time economy was booming. Which would imply that either we are radically missing something from historical record or that believers are simply wrong.

University teaches you how to think critically, how to examine a belief by starting with no preconceived ideas and in your essays you are expected to research A LOT from various sources, not just the Craptower literature. The end result of course, is usually that the person comes to realize that the Organization is a cult and they leave. That's why they are constantly coming up with these ridiculous symposiums linking higher education with "Satan".
I agree with you, in principle that is the idea. But I've seen many people who leave university and never learn how to think critically for themselves, I've got some of them in my closer family. On the other hand you can meet people who "lack" university education but are very much natural geniuses who learned to THINK through their life experiences. I've recently met someone who is just like that and every day I'm in awe of this person's wit, intellect, character and depth of thinking.
What university does for you at best, (unless you go for PhD, but even that again, is not a license per se), is focusing on honing your technical skills of whatever sort you chose, it doesn't make you a better man or a woman, nor is the diploma a proof positive that someone has well build cognitive abilities. While I completely agree with you on WTS needing to f... off as far as freedom of choice is concern (in any field) I would strongly disagree that University education necessarily leaves one with ability to think critically.
It is really up to person's character in the end whether they love to be spoon-fed or are of the sort that don't hesitate to question anything. These are the kinds of people that paved the way through the history and made changes that very often challenged established and accepted way of thinking bringing freshness and uniqueness that was so often also a mark of their character.Academia is a very conservative place of its own that doesn't easily allow for changes, and many great ideas have gone unnoticed precisely because of that hardened attitude. So even within academia setting some of the greatest ideas, lets say in physics, took years to be fully accepted. In early, 1900, great majority of physicists didn't even believe atom existed. Which in the end led Ludwig Boltzmann, one of the main proponents of atomic theory to commit a suicide, being only one example but there are so many more.
I think entire educational system will need a shape up in coming century if we are to prevail as a civilization, we teach kids technical way of thinking be it engineering or art and basically educate them out of creativity and freedom to question established and accepted ideas.

I am loosing interest in most things JW or XJW!
by AK - Jeff ini think that simon's announcement that this venue was closing was the catalyst.
i looked around the other forums and realized i just don't need them anymore.
i have logged in here probably 10% of my former time since the announcement, first to do the 'admin' stuff that was happening immediately following - but now usually only once a day, maybe 10 minutes, and can't even find much of interest while i do that.

Join the club ;). Nowadays I may or may not come. Lately, life has become way more enjoyable and also things I'm working on provide ample space for self-expression without doing it here. But I suppose as long as the board is active I might waltz in from time to time to see how everyone is doing.
