The wife says, ‘Sounds like a great idea.’

The husband, despite having reservations because the drive is long and hot, thinks that his preferences must be out of step with the group and says ‘Sounds good to me. I just hope your mother wants to go.’

The mother-in-law then says ‘Of course I want to go. I haven’t been to Abilene in a long time’

The drive is hot, dusty, and long. When they arrive at the cafeteria, the food is as bad. They arrive back home four hours later, exhausted. One of them dishonestly says, ‘It was a great trip, wasn’t it.’

The mother-in-law says that, actually, she would rather have stayed home, but went along since the other three were so enthusiastic. The husband says, ‘I didn’t want to go. I only went along to satisfy the rest of you’
The wife says ‘I just went along to keep you happy. I would have to be crazy to want to go out in the heat like that.’
The father-in-law says that he only suggested it because he thought the others might be bored.

The group sits back, perplexed that they together decided to take a trip which none of them wanted. They each would have preferred to sit comfortably, but did not admit to it when they still had time to enjoy the afternoon.

What you just read is dramatic illustration of consequences of what is in management theory called groupthink (story taken from “The Element”)

Perfectly normal people make all sorts of decisions in life, from choice of religion to who to date or even marry, what to wear, what music to listen etc etc to appease the group they belong to, be it friends, family, workmates or whoever is it we spend most of time socializing with, or fitting in.
We are swayed by the appearance of somebody’s outside demeanor forgetting they might just be playing their part on the stage they think others expect from them to make the show complete. None of them wants to be a nail that sticks out for fear of being hammered down. But if any of them actually had guts to actually speak their mind as it is inside between their ears or went after what they actually really wanted they might have saved both themselves and others of pain that comes with it.
So when people ask why somebody join a cult, or does things that are against their best interests etc, are they crazy? Actually they just need to be perfectly normal, because unfortunately evolution has endowed us with such a trait. But it is really up to us to go a step further in our own development and not just to go for a ride with what we are born.

I have changed sides

almost imperceptible over time in some areas.. almost everything i ever believed, i have proven to be false.

almost every bit of my deep seated faith is uprooted by reason.. i am not bitter.

but i am quite reflective these days of how much i have changed.

ever wonder why jws are such suckers for a conspiracy theory?

if you think any of their doctrines or beliefs through for long enough, there's usually some for of conspiracy thrown in.. i thought i'd give this email a whirl to test their credulity:.

I think you could have a great career at wtbs writing department. lol ;)

but seriously it's actually sad. Witnesses are predisposed to such way of thinking more than most. The whole wtbs cognitive framework is formed along conspiracies, collusion etc, that require high level of imagination and day dreaming to make them work. I guess that's why even after leaving many still stick to fantasizing and don't see any problem in forming highly improbable conclusions often citing at best highly dubious and flimsy "evidence"...
And then to top it all off they rely on their "common sense" forgetting their entire common sense i.e. a way of evaluating evidence, has been molded for them and created proclivity toward seeking out "realities" that fit such way of thinking as well as people who think like them. I guess that's why we still see conspiracy theories often promoted even on this board. No wonder many are still stuck in mud, and lives of many still suck...

i'm curious if you are "allowed'' to have "friends" of the opposite sex?

or is that a no-no?.

Currently I'm a freelancer, just cruising around and docking here and there to dip my big toe, I guess I don't believe in being anchored for life anymore. But truth to be told there were an occasion or two where I almost severed my friendship rope with someone because of "potential" danger that may seem to have posed to the relationship. Something I regretted afterward, luckily for me my friends were always there for me with open arms. I don't think I would do that every again, if I were ever to find a quiet haven it better be accepting of my friends too or I'm sailing off before sunrise lol

need some advise.

my friend has been with her boyfriend for almost 4 years, and for 3 of them the sex has been getting less and less.

they are down to around twice a year.

Are they witnesses too? For a witness that would mean tucking his tool into his own pocket and not someone else's.

Other than that its really something they have to work out for themselves, if you are true friend to her that's really what you have to do, i.e. not fill her mind with your ideas beyond encouraging her to work it out with him. Though being a guy I doubt he can go without a "pressure release" longer than a week. Now why he finds his hand more appealing than his wife's vagina would probably have more to do with his psychological state. I guess if she saw him browsing porn compulsively then maybe he is battling something from his past or something, at least that what experts say.
