My observation is that IT IS NOT THE TRUTH. When I realized it was a lie, it was pretty much over. The end.

What was the "point of no return" for you?
by B_Deserter inwas there a point in leaving the organization where you did something that demonstrated that you had officially made your decision to leave?
for me, i think it's going to be when i vote in the general election this year.
it will be my first action in public against jw doctrine.

I want to say it was one point of return, but it was many. I think it is like that for many that just fad. For me, it started when I decided to become best friends with someone I really liked and hung out with her and not care. The next was dating whom I wanted and working after school and planning to go to college. And then one day I just decided I didn't want to pretend anymore and I just walked away.

Shunning, the latest from my oh so righteous family
by Pistoff ini should say my wife's family.
i have a child (active witness) getting married this year.
one of my other adult children is disfellowshipped; he is invited to the wedding, not the reception.

What hypocrisy, me, I would say, "well if that's how you feel about it..."
I have learned that when it comes to weddings and funerals in the JW religion, they exert such ridiculous mindless control over others or "try to", that I have seen people go to emotional pieces over it. Me? I take the power away from the beginning, they will not work their nonsense with the rheotric at all.

Something I learned from being born-in
by dinah inbeen thinking and painting today.. anyway, my mind started wandering and settled onto this: being born in has made me more understanding of people since i woke up from the cult.
i came here, met a bunch of other born-in peeps who immediately understood.
we have all kinda branched out in different directions.

I totally agree. Being "born in" has such a different aspect to it because you didn't exactly choose to be in that religion and it was so indoctrinated from birth that it brings with it, a lot of unique challenges. I also believe that when you start to question something that was so inbred in your thought process that it is like being reborn and it is so refreshing. It's hard to explain to someone who may never have had that kind of experience.

do you know anyone that did "it "before the wedding in the kingdom hall ?
by looloo ini know of quite a few that did , some have never been found out , are they asked by the elders before the wedding if they have done it ?

Yes, I know of more than a few. One was the son of a PO, and somehow it was hushed up.

JW divorce rate higher than adverage - pew forum
by drew sagan inone statistic that i haven't seen talked about that was contained in the pew forum research poll was divorce rate.
i was kind of shocked to see that when it comes to the percentage of members who are divorce jw's pulled an extra 2% over the national average.
in this research poll only three groups come in higher than jws and two of them go under the categories of other christians & other faiths.

I totally believe one of the reasons is that there is a higher incidence of forcing people to get married to the first person they show the least amount of romantic interest or because they may have had a sexual encounter to avoid DFs. In the young age that so many get married has to be a reason.

Elders in their 20's?
by Princess Daisy Boo inmy little sister called me just now.
exciting news - stop the presses - her husband has been made an elder.
she is 27 and he is 26... is that not a little young to be an elder?

I have heard and seen younger than that. It didn't make sense, but then not much the WTS makes sense.

Take the Race Quiz
by mrsjones5 init's tougher than you might think.

Great test, I scored this Your data suggest little to no automatic preference between European American and African American. It's funny I took it before and got the same exact thing.
Race is a social construct, meant to divide people and put them on a superiority model.

My nightmare about the future
by Layla33 ini had a nightmare last night that was pretty vivid and i just wanted to record it, in case it might actually happen.
i am not saying it will, but i have had dreams in the past that have actually happened, which kind of scared me, and i have tested my "abilities" and i am mildly clairvoyant.
actually, as i have meditated more, i have been able to clearly tap into my senses.

That's how I felt the first time I visited Oklahoma City. LOL j/k
Yeah, sometimes to separate that from the Armeggedon nightmare is difficult.
I recall reading some conspiracy on the subject that the entire Illumaniti have been building up the doomsday, armeggedon battle in religion to prepare for the push toward global domination. It was a very interesting theory on this reoccuring theme in religious ideology, if I find it I will post it here.
