  I liked the movie ok. I was in Cairo on Sept 10 this year trying to get into the embassy w/o an appointment (need more passport pages). When I came back home I saw the movie=and they had the scene of the people in the embassy and I just started crying. Though I never felt in any danger in Cairo, that scene and where I was and when I was there really hit home hard in that dark movie theater.

  okay, so the jws (and my mom) would be so happy if i started going to meetings again.

  i've made it clear i don't believe what they say so why would they care if i went to meetings?

  do they want me to go meetings and be an open dissenter?

  how could jesus have been a perfect human on earth if he was born from mary?

  doesn't thewatchtower believe since we are all sons and daughters of adam and eve, that we are all genetically imperfect?

  so if mary also came from adam and eve like the rest of us but gave birth to jesus then wouldn't jesus have been born imperfectlike the rest of us?.

  I'm with you. The perfect human? No, it would be a demi-god which would have fit in with the greco/roman influences of the time. He has all the failings of Mary's ancestry, the genetics the need to defecate, all that good stuff. He woke up with the same condition many men do and if he is like the men I knew in the middle east who wear a lot of sandals-he had surprisingly nice feet.

  I had no idea that making mac/cheese was some kin dof racial statement. I am white and live in the Pacific NW and we have here the macaroni and cheese that (ok, well) Oprah Winfrey says is the best-Beechers. I think theirs is good, but my Irish/German/Native American version is better.

  i had started a topic like this a few months ago but i thought it might be usefull to ask you again.

  FYI, I think Polish medical degrees are considered very good. I know that it is considered to be a good choice for high quality medical care when you odn't want to wait on the national health service (in UK, for example). Might want to look into that. Ihave a few doctor friends who got their basic degree in Poland or Egypt an dthen went on to get the higher training(further certification-not sure how it works). ONe of them is a VERY high paid doctor who runs the dialysis department/nephrology for the national health system. He went to med school in poland. If you are interested in Medicine, speak to a counselor ther about it and consult a medical school in the states for their ideas, too. People are usually happy to help and can let you know if there are options in that way. that being said, he works in the ME, but I know he(dr. in ME) is respected and gives lectures in the US.

  OH, and you can spend those six years slinging burgers, or digging ditches-will they be less wasted? It is just your life, every day you will live it. YOu are not wasting time in educating yourself. Use that time to learn and grow in every direction so that they are NOT wasted, no matter what you end up doing. Those are wonderful years, let them be rich, no matter what you decide to study.

  I worked at an American university abroad. We only offered engineering degrees. If you are good at maths and science, I would recommend petroleum or chemical engineering. Both offer good jobs in a variety of places and you will be well paid. No blood, guts or gingivitis involved. I would recommend you get in a program with American or possibly britist credentials, and I would recommend that you get your english at the VERY highest level you can before entering college if possible (engineering requires high english skills). I would recommend also that you keep improving at it until you are top rate.

  You will not get an American job right away, you usually need a little experience, then you need to get a job at the on site locations (Qatar, KSA, Egypt) if in petroleum. Chemical engineering however is a great field and more long term possibilities, I think, also, cleaner! There will be opporutnities there in medicine, petroleum and manufacturing. Biomedical engineering might be interesting to you.

  Just some thoughts. I taught English composition. I worked on a lot of resumes and helped a lot of people get interviews and papers published. Its a very wide open field, engineering. Don't think too small. It is really huge, pays well, and has more variety than you might at first think.

  The truth is, the whole stoning to death thing (or even abuse for disobedience) is pretty much overplayed by the western media. Most women are at most, mildly harrassed (think 1978, wearing a dress just above the knees and a pair of sandals at the KH). In KSA, those religious police guys are getting mobs of women going against them regularly these days, they are not given any carte blanche for that knd of harrassent anymore. The problem is the woman alone. Two or more, they will make noise and everyone will come to their aid. But it is a lot easier to bully one person into a corner.

  In Egypt, only politeness and modesty on the part of the WOMEN allows this to continue.As they are learning that isn't an effective strategy they are claling out the harassers more an more and it is working-it is becoming less acceptable and it is being addressed by the govt. now-harassers have been imprisoned and that is the message they are getting. IN general, in the home, egyptian women are loud, bossy and get their way more than most american wives do. I have seen it in action more than once. There is abuse and all the things in every society, but women rule the roost here. Men may like to THINK they do, but they don't. (and in their secret hearts, they know it)
