For decades, the WTS (implicitly, if not explicity) considered the Soviet Union the "King of the North". Their convoluted prophecies suffered no backlash with the end of the cold war and collapse of the USSR. If the UN disbanded, they would just re-write their own nonsense prophecies, slap a new expiry date on the bottle, and call it "new light"....

If the UN dissolves...will the WTS recover?
by AuldSoul inthere is a public groundswell of support within the united states of america, inc. for the us to withdraw from the un.
while this departing of one-half of the seventh king (and the "king of the south") could be prophetically spun into a harmless twist and twang on an old saw, the general consensus seems to be that the un would have great difficulty maintaining orderliness within its ranks.
also, there is a strong argument to be made that without us financial backing the un would fold due to a shortage of funding.. although it isn't particularly likely, it is certainly a possibility.

This is incredible that you were able to find this. Imagine the stories this guy must have had, not only about his daddy Booze Rutherford, but about CT Russell as well.
If Malcom had kids, we would likely have passed the stories onto them, or maybe his close associates. He likely had information that would be of extreme value for any academic studying the real history of the JWs.

"That I may make a reply to him that is taunting me"
by under_believer inso for our "congregation book study", we are still deeply mired in the bible teach book.
this week's lesson talks about the whole idea that the book of job relates the central issue of the entire cosmos, a vital issue raised by satan, where satan questions whether humans follow god because of what they are given, or because he deserves it.
i'm surprised that the book of job, obviously archetypal and figurative (for example, i doubt people back then literally spoke for hours in hebrew verse, and i doubt that four messengers showed up all in a row with stories telling that they, only they, got away to tell of a disaster) even has a place in the canon; aside from its lack of any specific historical position or accuracy, the argument it advances (especially as the society interprets it) is facile: the idea that privileged, wealthy, powerful job somehow stands as a representative for all humanity and serves as a litmus test for man's interaction with god is downright silly.

Placing Publications - The Reality
by Joe Grundy ini'm not, never have been, a jw, etc.. a couple of months ago, on a mb entirely unconnected with religion a poster told of her concerns that her pre-teen step-daughter had started to study (with her mother) with jws.. the poster knew nothing of jws - her concern was because her step-daughter had asked her not to tell her husband (the girl's father) of this and keep it secret.
(apparently the mother had previously had connections with jws and the father was not happy with this).. i posted on that mb, mentioned some concerns, and later got into e-mail contact with the step-mother.
i put together a brief note about some history of the jws, some concerns i had (mainly gathered from reading jwd) and sent it to her, just to make her aware of what she may be dealing with.

Elderly JW refused to open her Bible...
by AuldSoul inokay, some of you might have read about my conversation with the elderly lady that was doing street witnessing in conyers, ga. this experience happened this morning ... just looked at the clock, yesterday morning .
i walked out of the local tag office (where we register our vehicles and acquire license plates for the cars) and there sat an elderly lady with current magazines.
being in somewhat of a hurry, i tried to walk a more direct path to my vehicle ... but she thought i was avioding her.

People who see EVIL object in pictures, are really reaching!
by free2beme ini sit in my bathroom on a daily basis, using the facilities.
as i do this, to pass the time i will sometimes look at the pattern in the wallpaper or floor and see if i can make out things.
at times i think it looks like a face, or maybe the shape of a object or country.

LMAOROFL! Thank you for the colonic update. They way you worded this with such 'zen-like' calm is hilarious! LOL
I agree though, we often can find hidden images in any random pattern.

All races came from Adam???
by cyberdyne systems 101 inwas it possible that we were taught that all races came from the same family?!
when i look back at that idea it seems very awkward and flawed.
i believe there was some mention of one of the early bible charactors as having darker skin - as though adam was a white man to begin with!

Yup ! Except that "Adam" looked something like this.....

Question for JW believers...or whoever wants to answer
by kittyeatzjdubs ini often wondered this myself a lot growing up, and i must know.... if there was no paradise hope, no promise of living forever or having your dead loved ones resurrected....would you still serve your god and follow the organization?
would you have ever began studying with the witnesses for that matter or stayed in the ''truth'' if you were raised in it?.
because isn't that the golden ticket that jw's wave in front of their studies or interested ones?

Excellent thread Jojo. IMHO, this is the basically the same "golden ticket" that ALL religious believers acquire when they adopt their own particular beliefs in the supernatural. Ultimately, religion comes down to this: an attempt to avoid the inevitable: death and an eternity of nothingness.
As an atheist, I have come to accept the ephemeral nature of human, biological existence and even celebrate this by living my life to its fullest, realizing that it will all end and all that will remain is the legacy I create NOW, in the real world. JWs, christians, jews, muslims, etc. its all the same imaginary "golden ticket" to their own brand of some imaginary eternal life, beyond the finality of the grave.

Do you ever feel like you are still defending what the bible says?
by Sassy ini found myself in an interesting situation.. i've been spending some time on some non jw related boards and one day i ventured into the religion forum.. before i knew it i was there posting about if satan was created evil/ if god intended him to be that way.. and also discussing the free will given to us (and the angels) to make our own choices to be obedient or not.. .
well i haven't found a faith since leaving the dubs.. i still believe in god but i have yet to trust any organized religion.
i haven't even yet been able to bring myself to attend a church, because the thought alone give me anxiety attacks.

No. I have no desire to defend the primordial ramblings of nomadic desert wanderers written thousands of years ago. "Fiction" does not require a defence, only a subjective interpretation.
