Thus, is the implication that it is more intelligent to believe the literary account of some nomadic, primordial bedouin desert dwellers written 2000 years ago, or accept the overwhelming factual proof, at the molecular, anthropological, phylogenetic and biological levels of evolution science? Evolutionaly theory provides for increasing complexity over millions of years, beginning with simple molecular interactions. Multicellular lifeforms are still, simply the composite result of structured configurations of very simple components: proteins, amino acids, biochemical reactions. More importantly, modern h. sapiens are very poorly constructed even for upright posture as evidenced by a spinal cord poorly adapted to the stresses of gravity...this is not to mention our propensity for endless diseases, infections, genetic mutations, etc etc. If the human animal had a "designer", the designer was a complete idiot.

i met a really nice couple once who went to an orphanage in a foreign country and adopted a little girl.

You know something Perry, as an objective viewer of this thread, and as a non-christian atheist, hearing your debate with Lilly really underscores how arrogant and self-deluded some christian fundamentalists, such as yourself, are capable of becoming once they leave the watchtower.

Lilly presents a view of christian principles that even a non-believer can see the social value in. While I dont accept Lillys overall views, at the very least she attempts to worship a god capable of mercy and understanding and who values and respects ALL humans, regardless of religious label. You on the other hand, sit on your judgemental throne like some JW elder casting judgement on all who would dare contradict your pitifully rigid views of the universe and your personal interpretation of who will and who will not be "saved" by your fictional deity.

Your judgemental attitude, condescending tone towards Lilly and pathetic vision of your wrathful desert god who will come to gleefully murder all those who reject christianity simply demonstrates that since leaving the JWs, you have been incapable of maturing intellectually, philosophically or ethically beyond the level of a condescending, judgemental JW elder.

on the radio today they spoke about people who smoke when pregnant.

a woman rang in and said it was probably absolutely fine as her mum smoked when pregnant with her and she turned out alright?!?

the news was that some young mothers-to-be are deliberately smoking as they heard that it will make the babies smaller and therefore easier to give birth to.

Human and animal studies have confirmed, repeatedly, that pre-natal exposure to tobacco smoke leads to:

1) lower birthweights,

2) Highly increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome post-natally

3) lowered IQ in these children and greatly increased levels of ADHD and a host of other behavioural disorders before adolescence

4) greatly increased incidence of asthma, CPOD and heart defects during early childhood.

Imagine what such a woman is exposing her developing child to :carbon monoxide; Carcinogens including: polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons ;

aromatic amines, nitrosamines; tar; benzo(a)pyrene vinyl chloride; catechol, phenol, cresol; Ciliotoxins and pulmonary irritants; radioactive compounds and

formaldehyde; benzenes, the list goes on and on.

Smoking during pregnancy should be considered a criminal act of child abuse. Most people would not expose our pet dogs to such toxicity let alone a developing fetus,

yet millions of women still do this on a daily basis. Its beyond belief.

Reminiscent of Daniel Goldhagen's thesis "Hitlers willing executioners" wherein he meticulously examined the collective complicity of ordinary rank and file citizens in the holocaust. However, it is the "ordinary" JWs that CARRY OUT THE ORDERS.....destroying families, ensuring that innocent children in emergency rooms are denied life-saving blood transfusions, engaging in public shunning of people, which is nothing but a form of psychological torture. Even for those voicelessly participating in these watchtower perversions: silence = complicity.

The WTS is most certainly obsessed with masturbation, as evidenced again in their recent Awake, where they trotted out the same guilt-inducing, fanatical anti-masturbation ideas. There have been innumerable articles dealing with this, and having had many friends in other churches, catholic, protestant, jewish, etc, I dont ever recall them recounting any such admonitions about this. The WTS is living about 2000 years in the past with this bizarre puritanical obsession.

My theory is that the writers of these bizarre diatribes, base their perception of reality on the pseudo-reality they experience in Brooklyn. My guess would be the Brooklyn bethel, with its highly repressed atmosphere towards anything sexual, must have the highest concentration of closet wankers in the universe. I would be curious if anyone knew the yearly amount that Brooklyn spends on 3-ply kleenex and hand lotion. The brookly elders are probably constantly dealing with masturbator "confessors" and thus perceive this as a huge threat to the R+F.

I remember they used to refer to it as "self-abuse".....LOL !!!

According to your logic, denying the "possibility" that there are Leprechauns is equally "closed minded", and frankly, there is no more evidence for the existence of a god, as there is for leprechauns, purple unicorns, or Peter the Rabbit, and in the absence of any evidence to suggest these entities are anything more than fictional creations of the human mind, I find no logical or emotional reason for belief in said deity. Even those claiming to have "experienced" the supernatural can not state, with absolute certainty, that such experiences were nothing more than imagination, tricks of the mind, etc etc. Schizophrenics believe wholeheartedly that supernatural beings are talking to them. However, these sensory illusions are completely removed by blocking neural dopamine receptors. The point is, there is NO EVENT, for which a plausible, biological, psychological or physical explanation can be proffered as a viable alternative explanation to the "supernatural".

I would turn the question back to you: Do you consider the possibility that god does NOT exist? Here is the paradox. Because religious "faith" by definition precludes you from even entertaining this possibility. In fact, it would be "sinful" for the mind of a believer to really accept that there may not be a god.

Paranormal activity, if it existed, could very simply be the result of some empirically demonstrable physical activity, some quirk of quantum mechanics which could all be described in a formula. Even if there really was demonstrable, proven evidence of paranormal powers, this in no way would prove or disprove the existence of some biblical, god-like creature. For example, "Aliens" from other worlds may possess technology which to us would appear to be "paranormal" but which for them, would simply be "technology". Hence, this would in no way demonstrate proof or disproof of a biblical deity.
