Is the Jehovah’s Witnesses organization really a cult?
No more than any religion IMHO.
im sure the question has been brought up before on this board and i imagine that for many of us the answer is patent.
however, i recently saw a documentary on pbs regarding the mormons and it stated categorically that the church of jesus christ of latter day saints is not a cult.
given that it has its own set of strangeness and history of revision as has the wtbts, could it also (the jw) be considered a main stream, although minor religion?.

All of my friends growing up have all left. Most got baptised because it was expected. I did it because I believed.
i really needed to find a place to write this as i don't believe i can talk with anyone else about my account, perhaps it is similar to a lot of yours.. last night for whatever reason i said i would go online and look up information on jws.
i have been raised as a jw all my life and baptized the last few years.
i looked at www.freeminds.org and www.sixscreensofthewatchtower.com and couldn't believe how easily the whole of my lifes teachings were refuted.. i can't stop my brain from running, bs just in regards to theology alone (1914, paradise earth, celebrations etc.
Remember...you don't have to "throw the baby out with the bath water" either. Many after leaving the organization have been so hurt and are so angry they completely dismiss God and Jesus. Many though are able to preserve that relationship with them. However, each must make up their own mind.
I agree!
years ago i remember reading something published by the watchtower about men not being appointed as overseers if they had a vasectomy i have searched the cd library but cannot find the information does anyone remember where i might find that information?.
ld.
Yup.

Was one of the things that made me see how controlling the Society has become and hypocritical for criticizing the Catholic Church's view on personal birth control issues.
just got back from memorial.
only went so that i could say to my parents that i had gone and to remind myself why i left.. oh my word!!!
it was sooooo painful.. got there a bit late - it was a couple of minutes into the talk.
The biggest thing that irked me was the usual push to go to meetings. I said to my wife, "Here we go..."
The brother read Hebrews and then announced we have 2 weekly meetings and we should attend weekly because Paul told us to, it's right there in the scripture we just read.
Paul said no such thing.
PRICELESS!
question: will husband and wife live together after the resurrection is completed, if both are in harmony with god?.
answer: the scriptures do not reveal what the relationship of men and women will be after the resurrection is completed.
the most that we know is that there will be no children born during the last 100 years of the millennium (isa.
When I was an MS giving public talks, a super pioneer started quoting a WT from the 60s.
I told her it's irrelevant and out of date and if I ever gave a talk with all pre-80s references it would be 80% wrong and I'd probably be deleted.
She was offended of course! LOL
please could someone tell me what is said in a jw baptism?
i was told that jw baptisms are invalid because they do not baptise in the "name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit.
because of this invalid baptism a catholic cannot marry a jw with church approval, i think.
These are the little things I used to ignore but now eat me up inside.
It could so easily be scripturally accurate:
(1) On the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will?
(2) Do you understand that your baptism is in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and identifies you as one of Jehovah's Witnesses?
so this was the very first time in my whole life that i didn't go to the memorial.
my wife went, and she was sullen before and after... i know she wanted me to go.
i told her afterwards that if she wants me to go next year i would, but she didn't say anything.
Sorry for your troubles DP.
Keep the faith.
This is why I advise people just to go already. I went last night to keep family and a lifetime of friends appeased. I will probable always go.
Hope everything smooths out for you.
Just shaved and ready to go.
Are shaving cuts an excuse to stay home?
the jw rollercoaster continues!
if you still have to go to meetings, i sympathize with you.
i know a few that keep up appearances so that they do not lose their loved family members.
My grandparents and parents were both told they shouldn't have children.
I SHOULDN'T BE ALIVE.
