WT thinks wife a "burden"?
by hamsterbait inafter the belittling of women in this weeks witchtower babble study, i got to thinking.. i remembered a magazine from the late 50s or early 60s discussing "marry only in the lord".. it said that if a man marries a non-believer, he would have to "bear his onerous burden" until jehovah relieves him of it at armageddy.
jehovah will bless him by killing his wife.).
i extrapolate from this that the wtbts views a wife as a burden, either welcome, or onerous, depending on her religious stand.

Does anyone run or mod another forum?
by Nosferatu injust for curiousity's sake, does anyone run or moderate on a different forum?
i'm a moderator on a non-jw related forum, and it's a lot of fun!

Yes. I mod a group that has just over 2000 members. I had more fun with it when I was just a normal member. But it serves a purpose and I help keep the riff-raff out. It's been active for seven years and has been quite successful.

Offended by this week's watchtower?
by Anony-Mouse init was about marriage.
personally, i think woman should be equals in a relationship, not the man as absolute ruler that listen's to his subject when it pleases him.
it just irritates me that women will never be considered truly equal in jws.

Yeah, this was written by a bunch of men who were threatened by the women. If they backed all their laws up with "God said so" who could argue?
No argument there at all.
1> Design a system whereby the populace are convinced to accept what we want with little question. Create a super-powerful being who will punish them if they go against our will.
2> Have this "God" make up rules that work to our benefit in maintaining control over the masses whom we convert to our "religion". We need the power to be focused into an elite class of individuals who act as spokespersons for this all-powerful being. If an individual just happens to rise from the masses attemping to wrest power from us, we simply integrate him (Jesus), thus maintaining control.
3> Demonize all opposition. Cultivate extreme emotional backlash against any individual, group, literature, etc. that opposes our authority, placed in us by our "jealous" god. Because we say so.

Breaking the Destructive Cycle of the Watchtower Society

you accomplished breaking the cycle of the Jehovah's Witnesses programming
ideologies? When I was a younger, I didn't like brussel sprouts or spinach. I also didn't like country music, opera, rap... I was certain that if I possessed certain books that I ran the risk of myself becoming possessed by demons, etc.
Oddly, I had never tried brussel sprouts or spinach. When I did, I found that I liked them, when prepared in certain ways. I had never listened to country music, opera, rap, etc. with a truly open mind. When I did, I found that I liked some country, a good deal of opera and some rap. I had never possessed or read certain books. But when my interest caused me to buy some and read them, I found that I never became possessed by demons. And I came to the conclusion that the WBTS demonized the books (thoughts, really) because they were in opposition to the JW "philosophy" of life.
It helped me to break the cycle (and I'm by no means done) by challenging the assumptions provided to me by the religion, by my parents and by popular culture (brussell sprouts! Ewwww!)
It is by fear that our minds are entrapped. Face the fears with eyes wide open and you will go far in freeing your mind and your soul.
What have you done or are planning to do in order to keep a positive out-
look on life? Can you offer any advice for those seeking to better them-
selves regarding life after the Watchtower?Discovering for myself that the Universe is a much larger, more wonderous place than I was led to believe helped a great deal. Discover the passion of your heart, the true passion... not what you should follow, but what your heart tells you, and follow that passion with your whole being.
Each of us have within ourselves certain things that fulfill us. This is our reason. Find what they are and pursue them.

I've been out for fifteen years. My mom would wail and moan about how she just wanted "to have one of my children with me in the new system"... on and on, guilt trip.
But my parents and I never did really speak about doctrine. I made sure of this.
Now, fifteen years later, I can discuss rationally with my father about the issues I have and the issues he has personally experienced with the Witnesses. He now, finally, sees the lack of love, the two-facedness, the deceipt.
The only thing you may be able to do is to keep peace and be patient. By example, show that life on the outside is not what the WBTS makes it out to be. If he sees you happy, successful, etc., that may be a testament in itself.
But, and I know this is hard to do, remain calm at all times. Don't let him goad you into a fight because that's likely what he's looking for.

Well, I see this thread died prematurely.
I'm going to be thankfully, joyously, away from an internet connection until the middle of next week. I hope everyone, and I do mean everyone, even you, have a safe and enjoyable holiday amongst friends and family.

first my reaction was that i was not interested and i let them know.
that as i was closing the door.. however, after i closed the door it dawned on me to question them.

Does anyone have a response to it?
I do. On that site, it says "accusers use deliberately misleading "evidence" and make many mistakes".
When I first heard about it, I could not believe it. I did my own, independent research into it and found it to be true that the WBTS were an NGO attached to the UN and that they agreed with and agreed to uphold the goals of the UN at that time. I was not convinced by any apostates. I was simply inactive and saw it for what it was, the WBTS having gone to bed with the Great Beast.
