Skype is software that allows you to make phonecalls from computer to computer anywhere in the world for free, via the internet.
I Skype and it is brilliant. With a set of headphones and a microphone it is better quality than a telephone. I made a 2 hour phone call to a very expensive Arabic country a couple of weeks ago. It would have cost $200 normally, and didnt cost a cent. Definitely worth using if you make long distance calls and the other person is connected to the internet.

Here are some interesting scriptures to show that the earth will wear out. The WTS may say they are figurative, or hyperbole, but as these scriptures confer with what science has proven to be the case maybe these scriptures are the ones that should be taken literally.
(Psalm 102:25-26) 25 Long ago you laid the foundations of the earth itself, And the heavens are the work of your hands. 26 They themselves will perish, but you yourself will keep standing; And just like a garment they will all of them wear out. Just like clothing you will replace them, and they will finish their turn.
(Isaiah 51:6) 6 “Raise YOUR eyes to the heavens themselves, and look at the earth beneath. For the very heavens must be dispersed in fragments just like smoke, and like a garment the earth itself will wear out, and its inhabitants themselves will die like a mere gnat. But as for my salvation, it will prove to be even to time indefinite, and my own righteousness will not be shattered.
(Isaiah 65:17-18) 17 “For here I am creating new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be called to mind, neither will they come up into the heart. 18 But exult, YOU people, and be joyful forever in what I am creating. . . .
(Hebrews 1:10-12) . . .You at [the] beginning, O Lord, laid the foundations of the earth itself, and the heavens are [the] works of your hands. 11 They themselves will perish, but you yourself are to remain continually; and just like an outer garment they will all grow old, 12 and you will wrap them up just as a cloak, as an outer garment; and they will be changed, but you are the same, and your years will never run out.” -

I have written an article about this at http://www.jwfacts.com/index_files/earthforever.htm (sorry but it is not very well structured)
Anyway, there are scriptures to say the earth will be destroyed, and some to say it won't. It really is a matter of take your pick, what do you want to believe. The scriptures that say the earth will last forever are generally in the poetic books, and so most religions believe them to be just figurative Jewish restoration prophecies.
Scientifically, of course it will be destroyed. The sun has a finite amount of hydrogen, and when it is all used up it will explode and consume the earth in a massive fireball. -

INTERESTING TALK WITH A PENTACOSTAL PREACHER
by outoftheorg ini had mentioned that i was raised in a jw family and we got to talking.. quite an interesting exchange of information.
when i brought up the pedophile problem in the jw's and the lack of action to make changes to protect the children, he told me that the pentacostal religious leaders required that each church and the preacher in charge had to have insurance and how expensive it was.. also that the insurance companies required certain things be changed and followed.
all the rooms that would be used for or by children had to have glass doors.

Every time I read about people devoting themselves to charities, or setting up help lines for children I hang my head in shame that I used to believe that anyone who was not a JW deserved to be destroyed.
I had a seven day adventist come knocking on my door the other day doing their door to door preaching. She had been a Catholic. She then started searching for the truth, studied and went to meetings with JWs, mormons and 7th Dayers. She decided the 7 Day Adventists had the truth. It is amazing that so many JWs hear experiences at the assemblies about how people searching for truth become JWs and so this proves they are the only true religion. Or how people in other religions are basical bad.
I asked my mother how she felt about all the worldly people donating billions of dollars to help the Tsunami victims in countries that are not even Christian. Her response was that when people see suffering they get a pang of guilt, but the love they show others does not last long.
I already know what many a JW would say about this thread;
"The only reason that Pentecostals are doing this is to avoid being sued, they dont really care about the children, they just care about the money".

he also mentioned that it will be mentioned in watchtowers and km's in the next few months.. anyone know what he may be talking about?

Over the years there has been comments about how quickly the Org is growing, how that proves God is blessing us and Armageddon is just about to happen, so keep active.
I've been waiting for the time to come when they start using "Look how everyone is leaving the Org, this is fulfillment of MAT 24:12, "the love of the greater number will cool off", this proves Armageddon is just about to happen, so keep active".
There will always be some line of reasoning used that 'proves' the WTS is the only organisation God loves and that Armageddon is just about to happen.

Apostles = GB
by yaddayadda inw01 1/15 overseers
and ministerial servants theocratically appointed .
14 while bodies of elders share with traveling overseers in recommending brothers to serve as elders and ministerial servants, the actual appointments are made according to the pattern set in the first century.

The GB has had varying numbers, up to about 18. I know a lot of JWs that always assumed there were only 12 GB and that it was supposed to be that way because they were a copy of the Apostles.

Australian music.
by avishai ini love australian rock.
cruel sea, beasts of bourbon, nick cave, the church, dave graney, midnight oil, hell, even early inxs (don't change is one of the best songs ever written) and even some kiwi stuff, like split enz/crowded house.
so, for the ozzies on this board, what is it about oz that gives the music it's distinct sound.

All the Australian Idol singers and Kylie Minogue of course. LOL
Jeff Buckley was great, he has a haunting song called Hallelujah that always made me feel sort of connected to him as a JW. I used to like the Models in the 80's. Saw the Cruel Sea, they are great live and SilverChair.
I am not sure what it is about Aussie music, but it is kind of raw sounding. We have a few Rap singers now, which is strange with the Australian accent. The Cat Empire is probably one of the best at the moment. -

A comprehensive XJW website???
by Junction-Guy init would be really cool if we could have a website that was geared toward the activist xjw.
not necessarily a discussion board type, but one that was a clearing house for all things jw.
especially have links to attorneys, known xjw media personnel, links to senators and other lawmakers.

nobodyyouknow,
Im not sure if you are a JW or an XJW. Picketing is in a JW's blood. After a life of going doorknowing telling everyone else that they are wrong it is hard to break the habit. A JW's life revolves around picketing Jews, Muslims, Christians and Eastern religions. The Watchtower has devoted itself to showing everyone they are unacceptable to God. I guess that bad habit stays because it is very hard once you realise how totally wrong JWs are not to want to preach back.
As far as having politicians in your pocket, haven't JW's prided themselves on using the political and legal systems to allow freedom for themselves. Again, to want to use the same system to right JW wrongs is learnt behaviour.
Junction-Guy.
I think it is a great idea. I am still tettering on the edge of being Disfellowshipped and would love to get some legal advice. The thought of being d/f is destroying my family emotionally. For their sake i would like to stop the process. I am thinking of telling each elder on my case that I will personally sue each one of them if my name is announced from the platform (hopefully as a means of stopping them going further with the case). I think that may be more effective than sueing the WTS as i could never afford to go up against a billion dollar org. I would like to know if there are any lawyers in my area that could give me advice. -

What do you think would happen if Russell,Rutherford,Knorr,Franz,Hensc met?
by booker-t ini know this is kind of a joke but i was wondering what would happen if russell, rutherford, knorr, franz and milton henschel all met up for a meeting to discuss the watchtower bible and tract society/jw's and how to run it today?
russell would probably say " i am the faithful and discreet slave" rutherford would say to russell "no you are not that is "old light" i am the faithful and discreet slave class along with my associates" and then nathan knorr would tell them both that they are both wrong the governing body is the faithful and discreet slave class.
and also knorr would tell charles t russell he would be disfellowshipped for wearing his beard.

Franz and Knorr both had 'the mantle passed to them from Rutherford' so idolised him. They'd be begging for forgiveness if Rutherford said he was upset with anything he did after he had died.
Russell would be pretty p****d with how Rutherford totally changed his religion. I can imagine quite a vicious arguement happening between Russell and Rutherford, of course Knorr and Franz would side with Rutherford and then proceed to beat Russell senseless.
Gumby,
Russell and Rutherford never made it to heaven. They both worshipped Jesus and we all now know that that to worship Jesus is idolatry and idolaters are all suffering from the second death. -

Is the Bible really inerrant?
by greendawn indo you think the bible is inerrant ie has absolutely no erroneous information or does it contain some errors?
if it does is its credibility destroyed?
i personally think that a great deal in the bible is false but still the basic ideas are correct.

It is interesting to find out when the bible was written. This shows that the 'amazing' prophecies are not prophecies. The rest are sometimes correct and sometimes incorrect. Apart from prophecy there really is nothing in the bible that signifies inspiration.
I do however feel that the major religions do have holy books that have a valuable spiritual message, and they hold to a central similarity in what they ultimately say.
A book by Aldous Huxley called "The Perennial Philosophy" is interesting in its examination of the common theme of major religions, and their break down of humans into a soul, spirit and body (as also stated in the bible).
A proper examination of the bible shows it is not inerrant. It would be sad if it was, because that would lead to the shocking belief that only Christians are acceptable to God. A narrow minded view considering that over half of people living will never even hear of Jesus or the bible.
