I stayed in for family. Plus I was really worried about loosing my circle of friends. Being a pioneer bethelite I never had any idea of how to relate or what to talk to 'worldly' people about.

Describe the WILDEST JW party you ever attended!! no seriously......
by kid-A ini realize this is totally context and culturally dependent, but the old toronto jw youth scene was quite wild during the years 1984-1994. .
one example, a group of about 40 jw kids would go up to a ski resort (usually mount st.louis/moonstone or blue mountain) over the x-mas week-end.
one year we rented out a block of rooms in a resort close to the ski lodge.

When i was at bethel i went to a party that i had to give 'evidence' about later. There was some pretty hot dancing and people smoking, and later a few took off and had S E X. I missed out on the seeing the last bit though.
I also heard about a group of JW's that were d'd for throwing 'The Cure' parties in the 1980's, drugs, makeup and all. -

It was an interesting comment from Narkissos.
I am reading The Perennial Philosophy by Aldous Huxley. It shows that all religions have the same core teachings and experiences underlying them. Reading the book I would have to say JWs are one of the most simple religions, dumbing God down to the simplest level and also in regards to their teaching of the soul. In this regards they miss out on understanding true spirituality.
In regards to the comment on born agains being a cult, thanks for the answers. I understand that it is not advocating being born again that makes a religion a cult, but rather the fundamentalism of certain Born Again organisations. -

~How did/do you personally feel about the headship arrangement?~
by FlyingHighNow ini feel that headship is one of the most damaging doctrines taught in the wtbts as well as other fundy religions.
it is promoted as a way to have happier, healthier marriages and families.
in theory, maybe so.

From the congregational point of view, it always made me wonder about how reliable the writings of Paul are. I have worked for exceptionally talented female CEO's and know that competance has nothing to do with gender. Just look at Margaret Thatcher.
I remember always feeling like a fool when i was young and sat in bible studies where the sister taking the study with a tea towel on her head. I wondered how the student could possily respect what was being said. -

Rickross.com lists by JDubs and Born agains as cults. I dont know enough about BAgains to know why they are considered a cult. Anyone feel that it is warranted?

Homosexuality at Bethel
by Sam the Man inwhilst at london bethel, i witnessed this first hand.
i know that it went on there.
those from brooklyn bethel (i understand that there are a few ex brooklyn bethelites here), the question i have for you is 'did you witness/hear of any over your side of the pond?

I spent several years at Sydney Bethel and though there was nothing reportedly happening while i was there in the early 90's just prior to my arrival there were some brothers kicked out for homosexuality. There were also ongoing talks warning of the dangers of getting too close to your room mates.
One of my room mates told me one day that he had been gay prior to his baptism and so had to lie on the application form in order to be admitted to Bethel. (there is a question that asks if you have had any prior homo experiences, apparantly you will not be admitted if you did.)
There was a painting in the entrance of Sydney bethel of a tiger or leopard that was done by a bethel brother. He was married but had a gay relationship while in bethel. I noticed that the painting is no longer there, not sure though if it was due to the history of the painter or that it clashed with the atrocious carpet they put in.

Does anyone feel like me???... am I obsessed.
by zagor ini don't know if something is wrong with me or with entire setup of things.
i mean every time i think about wtbs i get angry and frustrated which is beyond the reason.
and most interesting part is i'm not getting any better, looks like i'm going nuts every time somebody mention anything even remotely related to wtbs.

I too am currently so obsessed that i feel possessed. I am extremely placid in my everyday life and my work mates regularly mention they can not imagine me angry, but when i get together with my parents I can not control the intense anger that i feel for the Organisation, nor discuss it with them civilly.
I just read the thread on toxic parents toxic religion, and was quite surprised to see it listed. I read the book a couple of years ago and it was reading the checklist that made me realise that i have be abused, not by my parents, but by a religion. I found i could substitute the word Society instead of father for almost every question. -

It seems to make me manic, much of the time i have a great joy, a love for life i lost years ago. But there is still a deep sadness, particularly when thinking that the Org justs keeps rolling on wrecking more lives.

Has there been any "New Light" on the Blood Issue?

i have posted an article on blood at http://www.jwfacts.com/index_files/blooddoctrine.htm.
What is intersting is to understand that the blood decree does not apply in our day, something Russell understood, as do most Christians.
What is also important to realise is that 100% of blood can now be transfused by a Jehovahs Witness, provided it is broken down into components. This shows the absolute hypocrisy of the WTS. If respect for blood required it to be poured out on to the ground how does the WTS justify a JW transfusing a blood component that has been donated and put through a mechanical extraction process.
A JW will not give blood, but will freely use blood derived components and vacinations, basically scabbing off society.
Until I did the research I felt blood could indicate the JW's did have truth, I now see that it shows the true evil of a bloodguilty organisation. -

Do Must Dubs Have Pre-Marital Sex?
by tall penguin init's not often talked about but in my experience a lot of witnesses have sex (or something like it) during their courtship.
and most of them never go to the elders about it.
recent case in point: my dear friend got married this past summer.
-

i know plenty that did, and some that fell pregnant. When you are not taught about the benefits of condoms premarital sex can be quite dangerous.
Penguin if your hypocritical friend will not talk to you you could always do your Christian duty and dob him in to the elders. He may talk to you if he is d'd.
