i've had in the past studied a little about the bible with jws but have yet decided to be baptised.. i've just read lavenders' moving letter to her son and her love and well being for him is very obvious.

i do like the bible teachings very much and to this day i'm very interested in the end of the system of things which will very soon come to fruition; i'm a very strong believer, however i must stipulate to all, in retrospect i'm not sinless.

one of the posters says that jw's ask you to do a liitle bible study with them, attend one of their meetings and when you get baptised you have to do exactly what you are instructed or else.

This is the jw-interpretation of the Bible, and I see they have allready trained you well. You have, probably, allready been filled with the propaganda about the signs of the end of time, etc, but remember, this is the jw-interpretation of the Bible - and not necessarily what the Bible itself teaches. The jws use the pessimistic view of the future (that many today have and feel) as an argument why this is the end times (our time). In reality, humanity is much better off today than they have been in the past. If you don`t believe that, you should start studying history, it will open your eyes.

Wouldn`t that qualify as spiritism?...

By the way, what the ... is the "24 elders group" ? They have a group for that too, the 24 elders in heaven in Rev? Ok, are they literally 24 elders (and if so, who?), or is it a group, as in class (although there is no indication in Rev that these are a group at all, just like the other groups), consisting of...how many? If it is literal, is the "24-elder-group" allready full? How many of them are JWs? Russel? And Rutherfords? All? Shouldn`t the apostles also be part of this group?

When will they ever stop with these stupid, insane "interpretations", that have nothing to do with the Bible at all...

someone on another site was asking "what if they are right?

" which made me think about why i know that they are not and i wondered what was your epiphany or road to damascus moment or moments that just made you realise - hey i've been led up the garden path here!.

here was my response but i really think a list of reasons on one thread for easy reference for newbies would be good.

I know what made me stop going to the meetings. I was 16 years old, my grandma had just died, and her funeral service was held at the KH. I hadn`t been to the meetings in a couple of months by then. At the funeral, this one elder comes over to me, puts his arms around me, and gives me a great hug, and says: "Im so glad you have come back to us". This is a guy that not only was frenchkissing a 8 year old girl in the bathroom at a home study, but also a guy that I had almost never talked to, at least a guy that I had never received a kind word from. And the thoughts that went thru my head was "you fucking Judas". That was it. I never went back after that. That guy died from leukemia some five years later. No great loss to the world.

The disreprancy in the names is a good point. Manasseh and Joseph is included, although Manasseh was the son of Joseph. Dan is excluded (probably because he was the tool of the Serpent, in Genesis 49). But this doesn`t necessarily exclude the other possible theory, that the 144000 refers to judeo-christians, the christians that lived while Jesus Christ was alive. On the other hand, it does hint the the tradition of Paul of viewing whoever is a member of the "true Israel" as depending on the condition of the heart/spirit of the person (which is why Dan is excluded, for not having a pure heart/spirit). My problem is that if the 144000 doesn not refer to the judeo-christians of Jesus time, why then separate the christians into two groups? Well, not really separate (because they`re both heading the same way), but in a way, they are still two distinctive groups, at least in origin. Why the distinction, that is my question (unless the 144000 refers to the original judeo-christians, of course, the specific number, 144, is symbolic, without a doubt)?

If that is what the WT-writer meant, then...bring it on!

...the 144000 is not so difficult at all. Only weird adventist-sects has screwed up on this one, with the motivation being their extreme emphasis on themselves, and how "special" they themselves are, having the correct Bible-interpretations and all...like the author says:

My husb studies with the JWs. I've been to 1 of their sunday svcs, and a theocratic mtg. I found them boring and judgmental.

Very true. You should stick around here, you can learn a lot, if your husband is trapped/ about to be trapped in this cult. There is tons of info here, and people that spent many years as jws and/or were raised as jws. I don`t want to alarm you, but if your husband is on the way into this cult (and especially if you have children), you will experience radical changes in your life. Stick around.

Also note Jaracs slick way of weasling out of the reporters questions. The reporter asks how the Watchtower can justify their refusal to release their files on pedofile members, to the authorities. Jaracs then replies that all nations have laws to defend their citicens, privacy acts, and that this is the law, and he then refers to the Bible (putting on that theocratic face and smile), and how the Bible says that "we should not go beyond that which is written" (referring to the laws concerning privacy). Talk about ripping stuff out of context! What the hell does the Biblical passage about "not going beyond what is written" have to do with the privacy acts/laws of secular society!??! Absolutely nothing! What a stupid, skinny, bald, old dork.

I`ve always wondered about this too, but I haven`t found out anything. I know that there was a picture taken once of the GB on an expensive cruise, and that they, when they travel, travel on first class, and live in expensive hotels, but that`s pretty much all, I have never heard anyting about secret expensive houses, cars, or anything like that. But maybe we`re all looking at it the wrong way. Maybe there doesn`t have to be extravagant lifestyles, maybe that`s irrelevant. A rich mr.Scrooge that doesn`t spend money even on himself, is still an evil person, because when you have billions (?) of dollars, and there are people starving all over the world, and you do nothing to help them, you are not a very christian person. To say "Jehovah will fix the problems in due time", is a lousy excuse, and not very christian at all. Therefore, it doesn`t matter whether or not they are hiding away millions for themselves. They`re still rotten, evil antichrists, a part of that evil monster/machine, the Watchtower.
