Are these books about those "rings" they thought were surrounding the earth, one of which was water, and this was the water that fell down on earth during the flood (Noah)? By the way, what are those "rings" called in english?

APOLOGIES by real JW's: JW's are NOT False Prophets
by Terry injw1983 - jws are not false prophets .
jehovahs witnesses, in their eagerness for jesus second coming, have suggested dates that turned out to be incorrect.
because of this, some have called them false prophets.

Since Deut 18:22 has been fulfilled in Jesus, those believing in Jesus can not be false prophets in fulfillment of it or accusation of it.
One of the most ridicolous things I`ve ever seen them put in print (but of course, seeing that they have bothered mentioning Deut. 18.22 is revealing on their part, clearly, they must be bothered by their own date-setting-past). However: By following the same logic as that statement, every word in the Torah was nullified, with the coming of the Messiah. Then why bother reading it at all? The point is (and the WTS knows this very well, or at least they should, and if they don`t, then they are idiots), that the Torah is not just about the Law. There is a ton of other stuff there too, which the jws read and refer to all the time: The creation of the world, Adam and Eve, Noah blah blah blah. Is the story of Noah a "law"? Of course not. And when reading Deut.18.22 you will clearly see that this passage has nothing to do with "the Law" either. 18.22 is nothing more than advice for how to distinguish true prophets from false prophets. And hence, it is valid also today.
Edited to add: Whoops, I now saw it was from a discussion board. Well, nvm...btt

I agree (I never meant to be uncivil, btw). But in your post, you were hinting at outlawing smoking alltogether, by claiming that Bhutan was a good example to follow. And by that, you went far beyond the argument that I do understand, and support, that smoking can be a nuisance (and harmful) to non-smokers. The validity of this argument stops at outlawing smoking alltogether, because there is no problem in sparing non-smokers from our disgusting habit: Smokers clubs, smokers pubs (that would be cool...of course, it would fill up with non-smokers too, but that`s hardly our problem), smoking in the privacy of ones own home (if one lives alone), smoking outdoor (not near non-smokers, outdoor cafes would have to be a no-no, of course), etc. But that is clearly not enough for you. By claiming that outlawing smoking completely would be a good thing, you have gone from protecting the rights of non-smokers, to persecuting smokers. Sorry, but that`s just the way it is.

Nicolau:
If I remember right Bhutan was the first country to make smoking illegal anywhere within that country a few years ago. A good example for other nations to follow I think although it wouldn't be without some pain.

Ok. So those old guys down at the pub, you know, the old sailors, whose only joy in life is to sit around talking, drinking beer, watch football and SMOKE, the happiness of these oldtimers, who have been smokers their entire lives, is irrelevant. They would probably become severely depressed if you took their tobacco away from them, some would (definitely) kill themselves too (that`s how addictive it is), but hey, who cares, as long as it`s for the long term benefit of the nation, right? Who are you to make life-altering decisions for other people? What happened to free will?
By the way: Are you overweight? Do you drink too much? Ooops, so sorry, it`s unhealthy for you. So what the state is gonna do, is force you to go on a diet. And the rest of the population too. All foods containing sugar and saturated fat will be removed from the stores. Only vegetables, rice, beans, potatos, fish and white meat will be left. All alcohol will be removed too. That`s right, no more beer, no more wino. No chocolate, no candy. Ever. For the rest of your life, you will never taste chocolate, candy or chips again. And you will never have a beer or a glass of wine again. Ever. For the rest of your life.
Welcome to your world.

My4-year old son says the funniest things all the time, here`s one story:
Both his grandfathers are deceased, and his mother (who is not allergic to religion, unlike me) has told him that grandpa is in heaven. One day, when he was about 3, a parachuter came flying above. I said "hey, look at that guy, he`s flying". My son looked at the parachuter, and promptly stated: "Maybe it`s grandpa".
Another time, the day before christmas, we were in church (the only time I go), and in the middle of the sermon, my son yelled out loud, pointing at the priest: "That guy is gonna talk about Santa Clause now!". That was funny.

IN DEFENSE OF SMOKERS:
I happen to be one...it`s not cool, it`s not healthy, it`s absolutely stupid, I know...but I smoke about 10 cigarettes a day. And yes, there is a good chance it will one day kill me. But for Gods sake: The TONE in which non-smokers talk about smokers, even in this thread, comprised of people who were even once in a totalitarian, malevolent cult, it`s like they (and some of you) are considering us to be second class citisens, untermenschen and god knows what else. Do we even have human rights?
In my case, I have always tried to be considerate to non-smokers. I don`t smoke indoor, and I wouldn`t have, even if I didn`t have children. When at the bus stop, if I feel like a smoke, I walk like 10 meters away from the bus stop, so I son`t annoy the others there. And yes, i pisses even me of, when I see smokers lighting up at the bus stop, right next to some old lady, or a child. But for gods sake: Smokers are humans too. I personally feel the absolute ban on smoking in pubs and night clubs is the wrong way to go: There would be no problem in separating the smokers section from the rest of the pub / night club with an airtight wall, and a good ventilation system. The only problem is that then most of the non-smokers would stay with the smokers, cause smokers are often interesting people, ha ha. And then you boring non-smokers would have to sit alone in the non-smokers-section anyway. And that`s what`s really troubling you.
Damn nazis.

Why isn' the name "Jehovah" used?
by MichaelM inis it because many believe that jesus christ / god / holy spirit are all one being, and after jesus christ was born they stopped using god's name and put all focus on jesus?

The argument that the jews stopped using the divine name only due to superstition, is just half the story behind this. The real reason lay in the development of the jewish religion. Not until the jews returned from Babylon did judaism become an actual monotheistic religion. Prior to the exile, the jews believed in many gods, in the sense that they believed that many gods existed. However, Yahweh was their God, the god of Israel, and it was illegal for them to worship any other Gods than this god, the patron god of Israel. This is evident from the OT itself, in numerous places, such as the first commandment ("thou shalt not worship any other gods than me", etc.). After the Babylonian exile, this belief was done away with (the belief that other Gods actually existed), and when the idea arose that only ONE god existed...then there was no longer any need for a name ascribed to this ONE god. A name is, after all, just something used to distinguish one "entity" from another, and due to this, the "divine name" in one sense became an embarassment to the jewish religion, because it reminded them of a past in which they believed in many gods (which is blasphemy). Note, for example, how terms like "the God of Israel" and similar terms, as well as anythhing about Baal, Moloch etc, are not mentioned in the NT. There is a reason for this...

Paradise NOT
by TJ - iAmCleared2Land inwell, now, i knew there was a good reason why i didn't want to live forever in paradise on earth:.
from the sept 1906 wt .
for instance, those who will constitute the church, and who will be changed from earthly to heavenly nature in the first resurrection--"changed in a moment" --will be spirit beings like unto our lord, and like unto the angels also in respect that they will be sexless.

lose their sexual distinctions, and at the end of the thousand years be all of them in perfection, like Adam was before Eve was taken from his side.
Adam didn`t have a schlong before he lost that rib?

I now read the article posted by Narkissos, about the forming of the canon. It`s very good, everyone interested in this subject should read it:
Shortly after 177 A.D. Irenaeus was asked to compose an account of the persecutions in Lyons for the churches in Asia, and this letter is preserved by Eusebius (History of the Church 5.1ff.). This text quotes or paraphrases various NT books without naming them. Some years after this he composed a mighty treatise Against All Heresies and a Demonstration of the Apostolic Teaching. In these he quotes exactly almost every book of the NT, numerous times, demonstrating that the orthodox canon, though not established officially, was by this time generally accepted in practice (M 154).
