i don't wish to hijack the chronic fatigue thread so i started this one.
when i was a teen i suffered from severe depression brought on by emotional abuse, sexual abuse and the jw way of handling it.
i couldn't physically get out of bed, didn't know what day it was, had no desire to eat and dropped below 100 lbs.

When I was a teen I suffered from severe depression brought on by emotional abuse, sexual abuse and the JW way of handling it. I couldn't physically get out of bed, didn't know what day it was, had no desire to eat and dropped below 100 lbs. I wanted to die but didn't have the energy to do it to myself. And I didn't want my little brother to be the one to find me. I should have been on medication and probably hospitalized for a pysch work up. Instead I got told that it was all "my conscience bothering me" and that I should confess and repent my sins before God. (meaning of course the elders) So I'm okay now, but it took years to get here by myself.
The point of this ramble is how was your depression handled by the JW's and/or your family? Did you get the help you needed? Where you told it was your conscience and to pray? What brought your depression on?

edit for spelling
what would it be?
for me i would get rid of the disfellowshipping!
Also I would strongly encourage the unbeliever's to pellet the believers with spitball's during meetings.
My guy friends and I did this to the snooty kids @ the assemblies.
But it's a secret so don't tell!

here's a transcript of a post about the 2005 godly obedience convention (which i read about on this board and seemed to highlight a drama in which a biblical story was highly distorted in order to discourage higher education) from a jw youth group on www.myspace.com.

hey everyone!
i would also like to know: what cult studies the bible?! jeez... i get this crap alot from ignorant people....
Apparently someone asked to be added as a friend and had x-jw listed as one of their groups.Warnings of apostates are being typed madly. I'm terribly sorry if this is rude, but I just had to post this! HMMM... I don't know what kind of cult does study the bible? OOOOOHHHHH a religous cult.
These poor kids have no clue what is going on around them.
in my congregation, there is a well established group that does phone witnessing every thursday.
the society actually encourages us to try other avenues of ministry, however it seems like phone witnessing is hurting more than its helping.... even i, the covert apostate, don't mind phone witnessing.
i mean whats not to love?air conditioningfoodsitting around and talkinggirlsdid i mention food?.
I don't think that it ever really caught on in my old KH either. Mind you we were in a huge rural area, so we didn't really have any security buildings that you couldn't get into.

i finally have a date for my social security disability hearing.
aug. 9th.. it's only been 2-1/2 years since i filed (jan 21st 2003).
i have an appt with my atty's office tuesday 26th to go over my medical records and get a game plan.. i'm scared.. i'm afraid i will be denied.... again.. this is my last official resort to the application denial/approval process.. if i loose this, my atty will have to sue the government.. before i could always say "well, it's in the works at social security, and i'm jumping their hoops".. you're prayers, good thoughts, well wishes for a possitive (win) outcome are requested.
(((((((Brenda)))))))
I am sending very positive energy and thoughts your way.

Brenda ~ I'm glad that you have been able to discover what works for you to get better. It's a long road for some to find these things out. I have clients that have spent years trying to get it all in balance.
Best of luck to you!

a hundred years ago or so, when women did not all look the same and screech like ancient hinges, and strip malls were just a nightmare in a squirrels mind, i wrote a jazz column for a newspaper.
it did not last long as i was eaten up by the wt and became a regular pioneer with an irregular notion and a pile of scruffy s8's.. .
i well remember one issue in which i took great exception to a comment made by duke ellington which seemed to me to be far to general and subjective to make much sense.
The next Aposta-Idol? Do we all get to text our votes in?
We already have a Simon.

I forgot to say that these disorders, when diagnosed properly, are very real and can have serious consequences for those who suffer from them. My post was not meant to belittle or shove aside those who have been living with them.

There are a few similarities in the signs and symptoms of chronic fatigue and depression. I believe in a few cases JW's are actually depressed but in denial regarding it. Afterall doesn't the WT society view depression as a sign of spiritual weakness? It wouldn't look good to have all the pioneers being diagnosed with clinical depression now would it? Luckly enough it's ok to skip that stigma with the chronic fatigue syndrome label. Of note; antidepressants are often prescribed for Chronic fatigue.
