I just gave blood and I feel great!
by hallelujah inin australia we have only voluntary blood donations.
it's quite amazing really that people regularly take at least half an hour out of their lives to give blood.
so i joined them.

Good for you! We've just got the voluntary donations in Canada as well.
I'd like to say I gave blood but I'm a huge baby about needles. They always say "this won't hurt a bit" and then "student nurse" comes in and can't do it properly puncturing my vein and blowing it so I have a huge bruise that lasts a week on my arm. : (
Did I mention I'm big baby about needles? lol

Paralells between "Maus" and the Watchtower
by ColdRedRain inis anybody here familliar with the book "maus"?
it was about a holocaust survivor who couldn't cope in the real world.
he had constant flashbacks and his relationships were always strained.

Haven't read it but it sounds interesting.
I agree that being an ExJW has made me stronger, I mean really once you've hit bottom and been abandoned by everybody you've ever know yet still survive and thrive? That's strength.
<<Their survival instincts are tough, but nobody can understand their background and their relationships are always strained.>>
Not sure if I agree with this or not. My first marriage was a little rocky and came about while I was first DF'D. All the JW issues were a big factor. But in the one I'm in now they don't come up as much. Maybe because I've been out for a while and have (finally) starting to deal with my past instead of supressing it? Who knows

Did you go "Wild", when you had your first Credit Card?
by JH in.
gee, i had my first one at 45 years old.... it's so easy to spend with a credit card, especially when so many things are missing.. how did you cope with your first credit card?
did you start spending too much?
-
damselfly
Not at all. My card is only used for emergencies and making large purchases ($1000+~ more than my debit limit)
When I first applied for the card I told them I only wanted a limit of $500 but they keep on increasing it.
I always pay more than the minimum (sometimes I make 2-3 payments a month)

My Friend died
by pratt1 ina few weeks ago i posted that a very good friend of mine from childhood was diagnoised with terminal colon cancer.. we were very close growing up in the dubdum, and we were in each others wedding party.
our kids reffered to each of us as uncle and his kids look towards my parents as their grandparents.. we drifted apart after i left the lie, but we managed to stay in touch infrequently even if only to keep updated on the kids or other family members.. fortunately for me, i was able to spent a lot of time with him while he was in the hospital and hospice, and we reconnected as friends almost like the old days.
on may 19th, although it was the day before my family vacation and i had a lot of running around to do, me and my wife went to see him.

I remember your original post about him. I'm glad you got to reconnect and say goodbye.

<<I had no idea it was optional, one of the few things that were in the Borg.>>
It was optional? Knowing that would have saved me a lot of panic attacks and stress growing up.

I had my first part on the platform at age 4 with my mom. Guilted into joining around 12 also because my cousn had joined and since we were the same age "What will people think?!"
*sigh* Hated every minute of it and would frequently make myself throw up so I wouldn't have to give one.
