Hey that is one neat and beautiful looking "gazing ball" where did you find it? I'd love something like that in the courtyard of my house. My windchimes seem to be working....no evil spirits, demons or JW's in my house!
I love your Fluff
so i was doing my paper route today and i was admiring all the different colored glazing balls that people have in their yards.
i like gazing balls and i plan to get one for my yard.
but i wonder, what is the point of a gazing ball?

why weren't these buses deployed before the hurricane hit?.

It seems to me the National Weather Service and every weather forecaster I've listened to since Katrina was first a tropical depression forcasted it would hit South Florida (11 dead) go across the tip of the state into the Gulf of Mexico and turn, gather strength and hit New Orleans head on.......what did everyone not understand?
I realize the mayor needed federal help prior to the storm hitting land, which he did not get (maybe because he didn't ask for it ???), but the man gave out a list of shelters that would take care of the sick, elderly and poor and then he said no they would not be open, everyone should go to the arena and the convention center and oh yeh! take enough food, water and personal supplies for at least three days......'cause we won't supply them. Then he leaves town for Baton Rouge. So all of these people show up, there's really no one in charge at either place and nothing is done after the lights go out, the roof comes off and people are hungry and dying.
Then the Mayor comes back to town......sets up his command post in the Hyatt, which up to that point had been housing a lot of stranded foreign tourists (which by the way, he had picked up by buses and taken to Houston and instead of waiting in line like all of the other evacuees that had been in the arena for 4 days, requested that these tourists be put at the front of the line.......what's wrong with this picture?????
New Orleans did a disaster evaluation last year and the local and state politicians knew they had major problems..... so maybe they should have concentrated on an emergancy plan that would have saved lives and the mental as well as physical health of some of their less fortunate citizens. Maybe as these poor evacuees check into their shelter homes for the next month, they should be given voters registration cards....????
Don't get me wrong, I don't like George W.....don't agree with the war (but whole heartedly support our troops) and am furious with the gas prices, but...having lived through 3 hurricanes in 6 weeks last year, I realize it takes FEMA and the other Federal Agencies 4 to 7 days to get set up....that's why our County and City leaders set up shelters and make evacuation plans ahead of time, 'cause Mr. Bush is busy fighting a war to get back at that nasty old man that threatened his Daddy.
I made the offer before and I'll make it again....anyone of the frineds on the JWD Forum or their relatives are more than welcome to come stay with my daughter and I here in Florida....bring your kids, pets, relatives and come on down....we're 2 blocks from the Elementary and Jr. High Schools and we have a new High School about 2 miles from us.....there's hot and cold water, a/c, beds and clean sheets and the refrigerator is always full, stay as long as you need or want to, all I ask is that you don't preach to me and don't drink the last can of Coke in refrigerator.
... or does it seem like our government is responding with the speed of a snale to the katrina issue.
i am watching news program after news program with people in the field saying, "there is no one here!
" where the hell is everything, vacation?
I like the question one woman asked on Larry King last night....New Orleans has been below sea level since the day it was built...why now are they trying to work out a plan to patch the earthen seawalls....haven't they worried about them falling apart before this, don't they have any plans in place? Duh, that's our government for you. My questions is...why didn't they bus people out of the city BEFORE the hurricane hit and why didn't the managers of Walmart take all the guns and ammunition with them when they locked up the store and left town....rather than leave it for people to steal and shoot each other with? And why weren't emergancy supplies put in place and available at the stadium if that was the only shelter the city was going to open? Seems to me that the politicians in the City of New Orleans did not take care of their citizens very well and it seems to me that a lot of those citizens don't feel any responsibilty for taking care of themselves but expect someone to step in and take care of them. They also seem to feel that that plasma TV is a necessity right now and that "if I don't get my way I'll just shoot something". FEMA and the Red Cross always take a few days to get situated and unfortunately they have three states to cover and major problems getting in to the areas. My best friend and partner of 12 years, has a lot of family in Mississippi and we've not been able to contact any of them...he's a retired Marine and has told me step by step exactly which ships will be sent and when they would arrive and so far he's not been wrong.
for those not up-to-date on my situation ... .
i was disfellowshipped and i posted about it here.. i wrote an appeal letter, and wrote about it here.

i'm going to try to make a long story short.... i moved away from my home city for grad school 2 years ago and left a couple boxes at my mom's for safe keeping.
my mom ended up moving to a new place during the 2 years i was in school.
i noticed on visits that there was only one box i recognized stored out in her new garage and asked her about it...she got defensive and said she took all that was boxed.
I have a bunch of my son's stuff in my garage and have moved it twice. I would feel terrible if something happened to it, as I'm sure your mom feels about your boxes. The sorrow of the lost items will pass and you'll always have the great memories! It's normal to miss people you were close to, I still miss my grandfather and he's been gone 36 years, some days I still want to pick up the phone and share something with him, I no longer have anything of his, with the exception of really great memories and life lessons he taught me! Which are the greatest thing he ever gave me!
.
please use this thread only to post good memories.. i remember going to the beautiful white sand beaches of the gulf coast and playing in the sand with dad and chasing mom with dead jellyfish.
the water was crystal clear.
Camping for the summer at a campground about 15 miles from our home. Our campsite was set up like a canvas house with kitchen, living/dining area and sleeping area. Dad went to work from there and my 2 brothers and I spent the whole summer playing in the river, swimming in the pool and hanging with our friends! It was wonderful.
guess what you guys....... i come home from a staff meeting and sitting in my mailbox is a little care package from my friend jgnat!!.
in it was a delicious chocolate and marshmallow confection, along with a lovely heartfelt note.. i was touched, and jgnat can really cook.... and i must imagine how good it tastes fresh out of the oven, before being shipped a few thousand miles.. so thank you jgnat.
according to hillary step, next time you should send me salad...
Thank you for the recipe jgnat, it sounds yummy! I'm going to try it this weekend for Sunday dessert!

No services, just a short visitation with these songs played in the background and then cremation. I want my children, family and friends to go home and have a celebration, drink a few and tell funny stories!
