there's some real nasty stuff going on in my family right now - many of my worst fears about being shunned are coming true and i fear for my mum's health because of all the stress she's under - seriously!.
but i just cannot bring myself to discuss it.
i'm just so sick and tired of the whole thing...
I understand what you mean, and at times it does get wearing. Hiatus' are good when you need them. I take them as needed. But Being a jw is still part of you because it is the past you come from, and it does form who you are now even to a small degree.

.
for those of you in a serious relationship, is your partner "worldly", an ex dub, or a current dub?.
my wife is an ex dub like me.. it certainly helps that she understands why i am the way i am, and the actions of her in - laws.. what about you?
My boy is "worldly", and I love how he's the first man I've been involved with that understands respect etc. Occasionally we talk about witness doctrine but its only to help him better understand my history.

i was sooooo happy to find this site the other day.
i have been free and happy for a little over 6 years now.
i too grew up jw, pioneered, blah, blah blah, until around the time i moved out.
Welcome to the board, and funny isn't it how being involved with a non jw seems to be what they turn thier attention on. Welcome again and enjoy your stay.

i am out of the borg now about two years - but can say that i still have no social group in my life to replace them.
i participate in several activities that i consider social in nature - this board as example.
i have some 'acquaintances', but no real social structure in my life.
I'd say one of the best things would be to join a group where people would share a similar interest to you in some area. Myself I don't have the largest network of individuals, but those that are close know me very well.

PS They also share different interests of mine.
well i am new to the board, i have faded away from the truth lies about 6 years ago.
it still has an effect on me today, so much so i gave the warning in the title.
this is because one of the things drilled into me, was that its far worse to lead a member of the flock away.
Welcome to the board, I don't have answers to those questions you asked they weren't major reasons for me leaving, but I'm sure someone has asked the same questions as you.
Again, welcome.
i remember there was one that used to go to my hall.
he would say hi to my dad and my dad would ignore him.
i know now that my father feels bad for that, but at the same time he had no choice.
And to reign in the topic again to what it was originally called.
In recent years I hadn't seen many around the convention site in Rochester Minnesota, but I remember there used to be a fairly steady group outside of the Mayo Civic Center. One year one guy had a sign that had a watchtower on it with prison bars on it. The caption said: "Feeling Trapped?"
The one I remember best was the man sitting on top of a big draft horse dressed in sackcloth (or burlap sack) and sandles. I remember thinking "cooooooool". The witnesses were trying to stream away from them.
In recent years I know that my parents had commented on the lack of picketers and theorized that it was because "they" (the apostates) couldn't be bothered to come out anymore. I don't know how many more years witnesses will continue to go to Rochester though because the venue has been harder to secure and has become more expensive to rent. (That is information from the convention overseer for the Minnesota area, not told directly from him, but through my father who is his business partner.)

at last count there were 58,193 american casualties from the vietnam war.
how many of them were jehovah's witnesses?
for what it's worth, check out the following, downloaded from:.
Another question, how do we end up with JW doctors? My guess is that they are converts. I can't imagine how parents can justify the time and expense away from field service to support a child through a medical degree. Not to mention the regular ethical conflicts the adult child would encounter regarding blood transfusions
Good question as the PO's Daughter in the hall I grew up in was groomed to become an outright RN. But the ironic thing was they justified it all by saying that it was so she could go to Bethal, where she is today. Ironically her mom attended all of her classes with her at the various colleges she enrolled in, somehow they managed to get that to happen.
As for vietnam, during the war my father put down his gun because he started studying the bible and through his own understanding figured that you were not supposed to fight against your spiritual brothers, at the time he was a catholic. After he was discharged he started to study with his claims-to-be-but has a shady following of the borg supposedly annointed half brother.

what changes would the wt/jws need to make in order for you to consider returning to them?
Dissipate and totally disappear.

this might be old hat to those of you with more experience in the wts/witness life, but it struck me as very odd, perhaps even a bit sinister.
i started coming here so i could find out just what my wife was getting herself into.
on my first day here, i learned about the blood doctrine, and that was enough to convince me.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh blondie you're not supposed to say what we're doing with our books. Actually I haven't sold any of mine on Ebay yet but hell if I can I will. I can use the $$$ and I know the Org took enough of my time, and isn't time money?
