  Read some responses of those that attended a jw funeral talk........

  if witnesses really think their version of a funeral talk is a good way to give a witness ...think again.

  ...oh yea i also was really pissed how your funeral turned out...while i was sitting there ...kept sayin to each other how much we hated it and how pissed we were that he was sayin all that shit.. .

  i miss you so much.

  Yep......the Witness funeral talks have gone right down the toilet in the last 7 - 10 years. Now it's all about how the person hasn't gone to a better place, there's no eulogy, no friends or family get up there and talk about wonderful moments in the deceased's life.......no, the speaker must emphasize that the person is just dead in the ground and then read scriptures showing how Adam screwed us all over and how it's God's plan to have humans live on the earth, not in heaven. They may briefly mention what the person did in their life, but only if they're a dedicated Dub who "put God's Kingdom first". Then it's on to preaching and trying to recruit new members, which does nothing except show the level of their desperation. Worldly people are stunned and appalled at Witness funerals. I know, because I've had several complain to me privately afterwards. They're shocked and disgusted and the lack of feeling and the feeling that the religion is using the opportunity to try and recruit new members......hell, I even know of dedicated Witnesses who are disgusted at the funeral talks..........

  This sums it up for me. The last funeral I went to was nothing more of a infomercial. They did make some comments about the deceased but not nearly as personal a delivery as I would have hoped for. After the few comments the rest of it was right out of the manual, nothing more than an opportunity to recruit, you can't even die without them using every chance they can to turn it into somekind of infomercial. Left me feeling very sad. OC

  i am not a jw.

  i have never been a jw.

  i tripped over this forum whilst participating in a little harmless internet forum raiding.. i am a 48 year old man with a wealth of life experience who married a much younger woman who had been raised in a formerly devout but now mostly non-meeting attending jw family.. i have a couple of tertiary degrees in engineering and some undergraduate credits in psychology.

  they burst in at the height of the service, when the symbols were being passed, kanin, the spokesman of the jehovahs witnesses in russia said, referring to the bread and wine used to symbolize jesus christs body and blood.

  they wouldnt even allow them to finish the ceremony.

  there was nothing secretive going on there.

  As mentioned this type of action by the Russian Gov. just solidfies and galvanizes them as a religion. If the stupid Russian Gov. wanted to really be affective they would just make sure the Society has to pay their fair share of property and income taxes, the headquarters will cry about that more than whether their poor members have to go to jail or have bicycle spokes jammed in their legs.

  I been thinking on this a bit. I think the Society got it backwards from the beginning. The king of the North is the Anglo American world power, the King of the South has been all the third world countries that have been made to do what this King wants. Or, we just invade them at will.

  i am amazed at how many people still squabble over religious matters here.

  ill admit, i was ready to da before i came to this board, through my education at university i released that evolution is not just an evil theory that satan came up with to mislead the minds of humans away from god, as the wts would have you believe, but rather it is a solid scientific theory, and without it, nothing in modern biology would make since.

  think about it for a minute what if i said i am going to tell you a story about three children, all age 4, tommy is a republican, mohamed is democrat and david is a liberal.

  All parents teach their children what they believe. What will you teach your children? Will they believe as you do? Will you show your disappointment in them if they become religious as they grow older?

  SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT re: Riley Trust Tobacco Compan Stock & WTS

  i have no interest in pontificating on this matter which to me seems so straightforward.

  however, since i continue to see newbies and others periodically post in error stating that the wts "owns" tobacco company stock i believe that this should be corrected and the matter put to rest, hopefully for good.. .

  We've had it hammered into our Bible Trained Consciences™ that "a little leaven ferments the whole loaf", and we have people expelled from JW congregations for using tobacco, even though it's a minor "sin" compared to murder or child molestation, and yet the WTS happily accepts donations from a documented source that is partially Contrary To Bible Principles™. This is what is offensive to our sensibilities... that we have been expected to Take A Stand For The Truth™, even as young children, while adults - people who set the rules and standards for us to follow - are not willing to do what they expect of their followers. It creates resentment toward the leadership - and I would think that an ethical individual would see that this loss of trust in leadership and resentment that a situation like this would foster would not be worth the $1200 and change that was added to the WTS's wealth by way of the HM Riley Trust while it held Philip Morris stocks

  You know way more than I do about this particular situation. The only point I want to make is summed up pretty nicely by Scully in the above quote. The Org. is always trying to tell us that appearances are so very important. That is why men can't wear beards. Why one witness is not suppose to sue another. But when it comes to them appearances don't seem to be so important. Many of us have made life changing decisions based on their words, so when we see them being not so worried about benefiting from less than pure sources, it certainly makes us want to bring it to others attention.

  my wife was hopping mad about being df for smoking (and being told she would die at armageddon if she was not reinstated by the time it came.

  he actualy called her "wicked").

  she quit smoking, got reinstated and never went back to the hall.

  There are funds available that stay clear of questionable companies. I can't remember the name for these type of stock funds, but are available for any and all to take advantage of. The Society could direct that all monies be placed in such accounts, or, they would have to be respectfully declined. This would be in line with the most recent study article where they mentioned a man who was a tobacco farmer, he burned his crop and became a witness. This is how JWs are suppose to take action; however, their own organization is not inclined to deprive themselves of such profits.

  They certainly are hypocrits.

  what were some film scenes that pleased or horrified you so much that they stayed vivid in your memory for a long time?

  the one i always recall is the scene where anthony hopkins (playing as hannibal lector) lobotomised ray liotta (paul krendler) cutting off pieces of his brain and giving them to him to eat.

  he also took some of liotta's cooked brain in a plane and gave them to an unsuspecting passenger boy sitting next to him to eat.

  Trojon - good post.

  So I guess we could say that it is possible that some or maybe all of the GB are spies. After all if the Holy spirit didn't stop it than, how do we not know that the spies eleminated all the good brothers and what was left is...the wicked one. Perhaps this explains all the flip flops in rules. Jehovah has left the building and left it to those who infiltrated the organization.
