crazy thouhgts you have when you wake up
by becca1 inthis morning before getting up, i let my mind wander as i often do, and i started thinking about the movie the village.
i was thinking that it would be possible to set up such a lifestyle if one had access to a remote spot and friends who were of like mind.. then my mind wandered even farther and i thought that adam and eve (if they even existed) were basically in such a situation.
they were like a sociology experiment.

An Update!

Paralipomenon, I thought about that. I am not a JW so I don't need to live according to the JW rules they set for my mom's relationship with me. The only problem is, she has caller ID so I will just get voicemail. But it's okay I'll just leave messages like nothing is wrong. That may eat away at her more. As far as visiting, since she is over 2,000 miles away, it's not worth the $$ to go out there to barely see her. Before I had to pay for airfare and car rental. Now I'll have to add hotel. I'm better off spending the $$ on someplace a little more fun.

For those of you that have followed my soap-opera on this board...
Quick re-cap. Recently, my mom was threatened by the elders to stop associating with me or else. I guess she feared I was becoming an "apostate". About a month ago, she called me crying and said she can no longer speak with me anymore. Two days later, I spouted off a five page letter and refrained from getting critical of the JWs just tried to use logic to patch things up.
I thought logic worked because she called me after she received the letter and said that she is not cutting me off and will write me a letter with some stipulations regarding our relationship. Well a month later, I found out logic did not prevail. I finally received her response. I really don't need to rehash it here because it is the typical JW mother letter. Oy vey!! Basically she says we can't talk about all of the subjects we used to discuss. Here is a woman that had a very open relationship with her children (we felt comfortable to talk about anything) and she's throwing it away. I'm preaching to the choir here.
So today I'm just pissed. I want to do something. But I know everything will be fruitless. I can't send her cult awareness stuff, I can't gift her C of C. There's no reasoning and it just frustrates me to know end to know there's nothing I can really do. AAAHH!!! I am simply clueless on how to respond to her.

As much as everyone complains, I'm still waiting for someone to present an alternate plan. And getting the hell out entirely and immediately is not a plan. If the dems really wanna win over the American people's heart they'll at least present something in the next 100 hours.

Could Britain become a racists paradise?
by Gill inmy husband works for an engineering company.
he is a highly skilled engineer and runs the maintenance department.
in britain at the moment it is very difficult to find highly skilled engineers and so firms have been recruiting abroad, only to find that these 'high' skills are just as rare abroad and also nearly as expensive.. so, my husbands firm have basically decided, to cut costs, they have written out a new contract for all their workers.

What makes the problem very unique in the EU is that most of the "highly skilled" immigrants are legal immigrants. I would assume that as the new EU members that have weaker economies start to adapt to their Western neighbors, things will start to even out. Meaning wages may fall in the UK, FR, DE, but will rise in Poland, Czech etc etc. Perhaps the EU adopted too many Eastern countries to rapidly.
In the US, the immigration problem comes from people entering and obtaining employment illegally and then doing a job for less money than most Americans. They are not taking jobs that Americans won't do. They'll just do it cheaper. IE: my mom cleans offices and houses (typical JW) but she has expressed concered that she has lost some of her clients to an influx of immigrants who offer to clean for less.

by DebSmithLopez inup here, in the northern plains, we just recovered from a historic event--- may i even say a "weather event" of "biblical proportions" with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 mph that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed all roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands.. .
