Oy vey! So my friend made me watch the "movie" The Secret last night. It's basically a movie about the concept of visualizing and how we can achieve anything we want if we just picture it and not think about the negative. Well, in those terms it is a good point; however, I felt the movie was definitely a ploy at people's sense of greed and power.
Anyone who feels self important will enjoy this movie. The movie tells you to visualize and believe. What about all of those people that audition for American Idol and truly believe they are the winner when there's not a snowball's chance in hell they'll get past the first round. Were they not believing enough?
A few interesting points about the movie:
1) There's a scene where someone is running late for work and they state that if you keep saying "I'm going to be late" you will be late. Well if you leave 15 mins late for work the universe isn't going to fix itself so that you can be on time. It's your own fault.
2) The movie states that no one has a purpose in life set out for them. Ten minutes later, they state that your purpose in life is to achieve everything you want.
3) They say negative people attract disease. Are they saying the all the people in Africa with AIDS attracted the disease because they are such negative people?
My experience that could have went on the video: A year ago I really wanted to drive a MINI. I determined I would get one in a couple years when my car loan's term is up. A couple months later, a person does a uturn infront of me and totals my car. A week later, I'm driving a MINI. So because I wanted the MINI so bad, the universe let the other drive make a stupid mistake and slam into my car. It's all to fatalist.
What are your thoughts?

Crazy!! - (singing the Gnarls Barkley song)
You can visually see the person get more and more angry as their typing, spelling, and logic skills go down the toilet. All of those negative emotions are really bad for a Scientologist. They obviously haven't paid enough money to learn how to control them. -

Didn't Kim Basinger have robotic eye creature in her's in the movie "My Stepmother is an Alien"? HAHA
My best friend seems to have a different purse everyday but she never bothers to organize her stuff. When its time to pay at a store, a 10 minute scavenger hunt ensues to look for her card. -

Aw :-(
Well you should be glad to know that there are a lot of members on here from the UK. Maybe they can provide you with some local advice. I wouldn't be too worried about what the elders say. Who cares!

by Elsewhere inback in july of 2006 someone hit my parked mini cooper in a parking lot and then tried to say it was my fault... even though i wasn't even in the car.

I'm sorry to hear about this. I hope you don't take to heart what your family has said and blame yourself for what your child has done. As you stated he is 1500 miles away and obviously an adult who makes his own decisions whether good or bad. I know it sucks to hear such bitterness from your family. Naturally, we turn to our family when we need support. However, can you really expect anything more from a group of people that disowned you? It goes to show how unhealthy the witness way of thinking is and how much of a better person you are for not continuing in that way of thinking.
Meth is a huge problem. I really wish law enforcement would spend more time trying to crack down on meth than on other tasks. I hope your son gets the help he needs to get him out of his situation. Sometimes a good "kick in the pants" such as getting arrested can help someone see the light. One of my best friends from years back became a meth addict. He would always swear he was off of it but I could tell he was lying. It really distroys the trust in a relationship. Most meth users want to get off of it but can't because of the addiction but also because they've made "friends" who do it as well. Lots of peer pressure.
Good luck.

I don't understand how Hollywood producers and celebrities suddenly believe they are experts in many fields just because they produced or starred in a movie about that field. So strange. It's like Tom Cruise claiming to know all about Psychology. Did he even finish high school?

JW Terminology
by KW13 inok guys, list the ones ya know.. the truth/truth = the truth according to jw's is their religion.
for example someone baptized as a jw is baptized in the truth, whereas someone baptized elsewhere is not.. new light/light = a better understanding of the current status quo or 'light' in general which is just knowledge, new light allows for a complete change in beliefs without exception.. god's word = mainly the bible but anything else published by the wbt tract society is also acceptable.. true christians = refers only to jehovah's witnesses or suitable examples from the bible.. apostates = anyone who has been a jehovah's witness who opposes their beliefs (not necessarily people or individuals) and shares how they feel about the watchtower bible and tract society with anyone.
a person who hasn't been a jehovah's witness but does clearly oppose their message and beliefs may also be referred to as an apostate.. experiences = stories that will upbuild and encourage jw's.
