They are all annoying, I don't remember any of them with affection at all.
It would certainly annoy me to ever have to sing one again
mine would have to be "dark days are here!
men live in fear!....
" followed by the annoying change to a happy beat before the chorus "but the bible gives us a reason for cheer.." .

(clam here is the promised fluff thread - but you know it will probably degenerate into an intellectual discussion about pagan festivals - like my posts so often do!
so how will you all be honoring the goddess astarte or was it istoreth?
will you be devouring chocolate eggs - with their heavy pagan influences?
I hope you and Linda can take pleasure and joy in however your spend your weekend together and that dear Linda gets a little appetite back
Thanks Nina,
There are a few chocolate eggs here that friends have dropped off, and I can't eat any of them, just a little chocolate used to make me ill. I can't even remember what chocolate tastes like, it's been so long since I had any. Linda normally loves chocolate, so hopefully she will be able to eat some.If not, I expect it will keep for a later time.

No easter eggs for me - I'm allergic to chocolate, haven't ate any since I was about 14 years old, which is a very long time ago now! Linda might have some chocs, though she hasn't got much of an appetite at the moment.
We don't have our own garden, just a yard at the back, so it looks like a quiet weekend with a couple of drives in the countryside around Derby, though we may go further afield. I kind of like the idea of it being a Pagan Festival of Sex though, wouldn't mind honouring that....

i was bored to death when i had to listen to prophecy bullsh*t. especially the isaiah books!
Being single all the time I was a jw, any family watchtower studies or public talks had little relevence to me, so I used to switch off mentally whenever there was one.
Minimus, did you find any public talks boring to give? I sure did, they must have been torture to listen to lol
i didnt!
but again i was quite young.. i know this stuff has been posted in the past.....but for the heck of it, i wanted to see what others believe cults consist of.....so i googled this.

Hi Buttlight,
You are right, there is nothing in that list that doesn't apply to the watchtower. They don't go in for physical violence so much, apart from child beating and molestation, but they certainly brutalize people mentally, with the shunning etc, which can be just as damaging and is certainly longer lasting.
The usual jw defence against being labelled as a cult is that they do not have a single charisamatic leader, as groups like Peoples Temple and Heavens Gate did, but have a ruling body of up to 12 men. Personally, I think this makes their actions more reprehensible, as currently 10 of them are sharing in the same deception, but that's how they generally fool people into thinking they aren't a cult.

nowman, congratulations on your little girl.
cute name!!
pictures????
Congratulations Nowman!!!
awww, where is the "global warming", that should have brought palm trees to my back yard.... .
yep, it's still snowing.... .
.
I don't envy you JH, pretty as it looks.
It's glorious in Derby today, sunny and reasonably warm, 15 celsius, around 59f.
it is my parents wedding anniversary saturday and every year since i left i have always sent them a card.
i wondered whether i should or not this year.
on balance i wasn't sure what would upset them more - waiting for a card that never came, or receiving a card at all, especially since i said in december that i wouldn't "bother" them anymore.. anyway it felt right to send a card so i did and i decided to put a little note inside, folded and bearing the message: "my news, but don't read it if you aren't interested".
((((((((((((((Nina))))))))))))))))
Reading things like this makes me doubly happy that I have no jw relatives!
I know for sure that I could never shun my son, no matter what he did, and he's upset me and his mum a few times, to say the least. When I was a jw, I still got along with him, saw him as often as possible, I could never cut myself off from him. If only jws who shun their family members for thinking differrently to them could see what a pathetic, spiteful act it is, but I guess they have to obey the rules, however cruel they are, and their standing at the kh means more to them than family ties.
I think your letter is kind and non-judgmental, and well done for sending both the letter and the card. They should be delighted to receive it, but I doubt they will be. Instead they will, as you say, be saddened, because however good your life is now, you are living outside their religion. I hope they come round one day, but I guess the odds are against it happening anytime soon.
love

Good for them it's a pity there weren't a lot more there.
it amazes me how the wts keeps on telling its members about how they're seeing bible prophecy being fulfilled today.
however, just look at when the last significant jw prophecy was recorded: 1928.. what happened in 1928?
it was the fulfillment of the final trumpet blast of revelation at a jw convention in detroit, michigan.
What happened in 1928? It was the fulfillment of the final trumpet blast of Revelation at a JW convention in Detroit, Michigan
The only people who believe that that was a fulfillment of prophecy are the jws.
I always had trouble with the 7 trumpet blasts being fulfilled by 7 conventions when I was a jw. According to Revelation, these were earth-shattering events, and I couldn't see how a series of conventions by what was then an insignificant religion could possibly fill the bill.
The jws have yet to have a prophecy come true as far as II'm concerned. They have had plenty of failures though.
