  i've been a member on this board one year today.

  i've grown from a confused jw, filled with feelings of inadequacy, to an ex-jw excited for my future of freedom from the grip of the wbts.

  i dont post a lot, dont know many of you personally and still kind of feel like an outsider since im not well known by a lot of you but i do love this board and the people on it.

  I am not defined by my past

  every now and then the question comes up about how we define ourselves; whether we will always be ex-jehovahs witnesses.. if the answer to the question is yes then i am married forever to a definition provided by an organization that cares for no one - not even its chosen ones.. it colors who i am today.

  but i am not defined by it.. in the 1960s when few kids had parents who didn't live together i was the odd kid who didn't have a mother around.

  not only had she left my father but she left me.

  I'll be on the lookout. I read in another thread that the elders are supposed to contact the 'inactive', not leave it up to the family? Geez... they don't trust the R&F to do anything right anymore, I guess!

  I've been thinking about you too! I'm glad you're ok... And buying yourself some time is a good plan for now.

  Like others have said, you don't have to solve everything right now. You don't need to have all the answers. We learn our entire lives, if we are open-minded, and anyone who tells you that they have all the answers to anything is either delusional or dishonest.

  one of the stories featured was an elderly jw lady who had an accident and needed an emergency surgery.

  (this is not true of my mother but just like a mirror image of my sister.

  Many of these things describe my mother, too, but she goes above and beyond this. One day I'm going to look into psychopathic behavior... Just thinking about it at this point makes me sick.

  I cut my mother out of my life a couple years ago. It's been a huge relief, and I think the only way I can truly heal.

  (((((hugs))))) to everyone who ever had to live with a narcissistic mother....

  Sorry for what you're going through. It is possible to be reinstated and then fade, if that's what you want to do. But as others have noted, it will be hard.

  As for your doubts, you deserve to have your questions addressed. Look at the 'Best of' section on this board. There is a wealth of information there. Good luck to you.

  Doing your own building work. Success or Disaster?

  i've recently had a burst water pipe in my house, which now gives me the chance (courtesy of the insurance cheque.

  i'm lucky to have a good friend who's a carpenter so he'll be doing the complicated stuff, but while i'm happy to have a go at general diy, i'm always stressed about screwing up, rather than just getting on with it and enjoying it.

  do you do your own diy, plumbing, wiring etc.

  I've never done actual construction on a home, but my husband and I have remodeled several houses. Torn out old kitchens, installed new ones (we had someone do the countertop though), laid tile floors, laid laminate wood floors, sanded down and refinished old wood floors, laid brick pavers, etc.

  Any electrical work we leave to an electrician, and actual construction is left to people who know what they're doing too. I'd hate to have the roof fall in on someone...

  We both enjoy it, and we're both perfectionists... And yes, I think we were impressed over how good our work turned out!!
