without elaborating at length, there has been a lot going on in my life of late and i have sought out some therapies that i have used in the past.

they've helped a lot.

they are more along the lines of *natural* therapies.

i haven't really made a focused effort to do so, but, i do believe in it as an actual ability........along with such things as OOB's, astral projection, ESP and mental telepathy

When I was in grade school, we had a teacher who had us try different things like this one day in class. One thing we did was take a deck of cards, and one student would pick and hold a card, concentrate on it, and we would try to see if we could 'sense' what it was. I guessed correctly probably 75% of the time!

It was scary for me then, because I was a JW child who believed that this ability came from the demons, so I never ever tried to do it again. But I've wondered about it quite a bit, and at some point I might try to develop the ability. Still a little freaked out about it, quite honestly. Old beliefs die hard...

Do You Approach Disfellowshipped JWs?

for those of you active jws, though mentally inactive of course, do you you approach the disfellowshipped?.

there was a disfellowshipping announced in my congregation last week and i had the mind to talk to her.

there is also a dfed brother that lives on my street.

OK, Your Opinion: Are Witnesses Who Practice Their Religion "Bad"?

if a jw is an ardent believer, and faithfully practices his or her religion, are they, in your mind, "bad" or "evil", in reality?

I think that to be a truly "bad" person, you have to be aware that you are having a very negative effect on others, and yet not care.

For example: When I was a JW, I did whatever the WT told me to do, including shunning DF'd people. But if I saw a DF'd person in the store, I'd catch their eye and smile, or send a little wave if they were at the meeting. I truly didn't realize the agony some DF'd people go through, losing everything and everyone. If I had been operating with a normal, open mind at the time, I'd have thought through the whole situation to it's logical conclusion and realized how difficult it must be. But my thoughts ended at "the WT says to shun DF'd people, and that is what Jehovah wants, so that is what I have to do. The DF'd person was disobedient to Jehovah."

When I left the WT, one thing that was very hard for me to deal with was the fact that there were so many things that I did and said as a JW that probably hurt people, which was never my intention. I have since come to realize how amputated my thinking ability was as a JW, not just in all matters religious, but in practical matters, too, just in dealing with my fellowman.

The one good thing that has come out of it is realizing that this is how my husband's mind is working right now, which keeps me from getting too angry with the things he does as a JW. I get angry with the actions, and let him know when I think it's appropriate, but I don't get angry with him as a person. He's a good person... in a bad religion.

I think a lot of the JWs use the WT as a crutch. They have insta-friends, status, someone to tell them what to do and pat them on the back when they obey, etc. Take that away, and they would fall apart. They wouldn't know what to do with themselves.

When people leave, it's because they are ready to leave. Before that, trying to force them out usually drives them deeper in. I know... I've tried...

My skepticism has done me well, so to answer your question, yes I can and did become a believer in spite of the bible. Proof, however, is in the mind of the beholder. What validates an idea for one, simply raises more questions for others.

What did you become a believer in, Carmel? In God?

Here's a question: Say someone believes in God, but not in the Bible. How do you know there is only one God? Why not the sun-god, moon-god, etc.? The bible claims to teach us about God, but if we can't believe it, then we're left to guess all the details as well as the main concept.

( a day ago) - so a couple of witnesses were talking and i heard one mention that he was on the "security" group of dubs for his convention.

they all had to meet early to discuss the barrage of "evil slave" class coming in and handing out cards with apostate information and also to watchover the restrooms, cause the "evil slave" likes to put flyers and stuff in there as well.

there was mentioning of how they would handle those ones.... just a note of encouragement, i guess, but it seems as if you ex-dubs that try and release the other actives, definitely are having an impact in some ways.. .

Lore - You could bring your own stash of apostate cards and fliers and leave them everywhere!! If anyone finds the stuff on you, you could just tell them that you confiscated it from the restroom!

I'm not a bible believer, but I have a question for those who are.

How do you reconcile the OT God, who seems to be bloodthirsty and angry and detached from the feelings of people, with the NT Christ, who is nothing but love and claims to be God (or the son of God, depending on what you believe)?

How do you explain that God ordered the murder of women and children when there was war, or approved saving virgins for the pleasure of the conquerors? There seems to be so much contradiction in the explaination of who the God of the bible is. On the one hand, he's supposed to be all loving. On the other hand, that's not what the OT of the bible describes.

I agree that there is a lot of good advice in the bible, words from wise men, etc. I just can't see that the God that Christians worship is the same one that is described in the bible.

I'd love to have a belief system, and it would be convenient if it could be based on the bible. I just don't think that convenience is a good enough reason to believe anymore, and I've yet to hear convincing evidence that the bible is true.

Baptism at age 11 next Saturday

i just learned that one of my grandsons (whom i've never met) will be baptized on saturday.

he will be twelve in november.

what's happening within the publishing company to inspire this sort of thing?

So the moral of this story is kids baptised early or not can wake up and get on with thier life just like adults can.

I agree with this, Smiles_Smiles. The problem arises, though, when the parents aren't ready to exit the JWs, but keep pushing the kids to be good JWs. Those kids have to keep doing the JW thing to keep their family in their lives. They can't get on with their lives unless they are willing to give up people who are a huge part of their lives, their families.

I'm so glad that your daughter had you so she could get out! She sounds like one smart cookie!

Posting Here: secretly or openly?

just curious, how many of you have to hide the fact that you post here from family?

i'm especially thinking of those with spouses who are in, while they themselves either never were, faded, dfed/daed, etc but if you are a child hiding it from parents, that applies too.

if you are posting secretly, how secretive do you have to be?

My husband knows I go online and read ex-JW related things, but I don't know if he realizes that I post on a forum. Either way, he never ever mentions it, and neither do I. Don't ask, don't tell.

I have a laptop that is mine exclusively, and I have a password on it so that no one else can access my history, favorites, etc. At first, my husband was angry that I put a password on my computer, but now he doesn't care. Quite honestly, I did it for his sake as much as for mine. I don't want to be antagonistic, and if he doesn't know what I'm reading, then he doesn't have to feel obliged to do anything about it, either. (Like turn me in... especially since he's an elder.) I think he realized that, too. I post from home, but usually only when he's at work or at meetings.
