  How can you not be able to take another witness to court? Its only a witness rule not a federal or state law.

  Yes, it's only a witness rule. But it's hardly the only 'rule' that the witnesses have made that they expect to be followed. *...thinking of 'oral sex' thread...*

  My husband is an elder, and his 'position' would be threatened if he didn't follow all the 'rules'. But there are so many JWs who speculate in this, it's unreal. He did a job for an elder once who paid most of his bill but had a million excuses why he couldn't pay the last thousand or so. My husband finally sent the bill to collections... this 'elder' made such a huge deal out of it, saying how JWs are not supposed to take legal action against each other, how could he dishonor Jehovah's name in this way, and he actually called the elder body in our congretation!! (Who incidently understood the situation, since several of them have businesses and have experienced the same thing themselves...) My husband finally dropped it and wrote it off as a loss.

  Second thing, I would have to caution that discriminating because of religion is against the law in the US

  Whenever my husband refuses to do work for the JWs, he always says it's because he's 'too busy'... Most recent example of JW fraud against our company: JWs asked my husband to do a job... He says he's too busy. They get someone else.. who proceeds to do half the work and then walk off the job. (um... clue there!) So they call my husband again, begging him to finish it for them. Out of the kindness of his heart, he did. They were so unbelievably rude and nasty to his employees that one refused to go back to their house. That entire job was a nightmare. Of course, they never paid their bill... It was after that my husband decided he would never work for JWs again.

  other than a few hours required at the boardroom table on wednesdays, why can't they 'buy out the time' they are telling the flock to 'buy out' ?

  I'll never forget the shock of when one bimbo of a pioneer told me she was going to Bethel to "pick vegetables" in the garden they have there, because she could "count it as time"........

  And there's no equality here, either... At the WT Grove in Florida (which the society just sold recently), 'pioneers' who volunteered to work there once a month could count it as time... the R&F who worked there, could not. Hmmmmmmm.....

  my wife and i started fading about 2 1/2 years ago, but for different reasons.

  she had noticed the lack of love and justice in the congregations, even experienced some firsthand and the abusive conduct of elders against the r&f.

  on the other side, i was starting my research on the wt and had pretty much decided i didn't want any part in the borg.

  If I were a JW, no, because I would not be allowed any legal recourse if they screwed up or cheated.

  My husband and I own a business. He FINALLY stopped doing jobs for JWs because they don't pay their bills!!!! It's unreal, it's infuriating, and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it because of this stupid rule!!!!! He even did a job for the guy whose house we are assigned to for the bookstudy - and my husband was book study conductor at the time - we considered them friends, and this guy didn't even pay his bill! We're talking thousands of dollars here!! It's been almost 2 years now, we'll never see a penny.

  If it wasn't for the fact that my husband is in great demand by 'worldly' people because of the quality of his work and his work ethic, I'd start to wonder about him....

  Oh, and then there's the employee we had to fire because he was stealing parts and tools and saying he was at work when he was home. He was a pioneer. Still is... "God's Chosen People", huh?

  Public Speaker-No call no show

  my wife went to a meeting today and a funny thing happened.

  the public speaker from out of town did not show up!

  so instead of ad-libbing for an hour they just ended the meeting an hour early!

  I just always wondered how important holding a public talk could be to a person when they habitually 'forget' that they have one?? How do they keep track of their other comittments? Sheesh...!

  Do you do Christmas?

  this will be my first christmas.

  i'm not doing anything corny, no tree, no bigass fluoro santa.

  just joining my new (husband's) family at their xmas gig - tacky presents for the kids, lots of food, stories by the old folk.

  I don't do Christmas because it's not possible in my house, but I have been looking at Christmas decorations this year, and getting all sentimental. I haven't celebrated Christmas since I was 7, but I loved the decorations and the tree and the Christmas cookies and the songs... I would love to celebrate Christmas again!

  Public Speaker-No call no show

  In my area 3 months was the limit because things tended to be forgotten otherwise

  I don't know how far in advance they are scheduled here, but they actually have someone assigned to call the public speaker about a week before he is assigned to come to the congretation. Otherwise, they forget. Today, my kids told me that there was no public speaker, and it was because the brother who was supposed to call, forgot. (Soon they're gonna have to have someone remind the guy who is supposed to call to remind the guy who is supposed to give the talk... good grief!!)

  Anyway, one of the elders zipped into the library and threw together a talk. He's a good speaker, so it was a good talk, they said. But they would have preferred getting out an hour early.

  Ten.

  4. Does your partner trust you? Why?

  Yes, he trusts me because I have always proved myself to be trustworthy. I have never lied to him or misled him or hidden anything important from him - until now, leaving the WT. And he knows that I hide some things now, but he also knows the reasons why. And I honestly think that if he didn't trust me so much, he would give me a much harder time about my clandestine activities than he does.

  5. Do you trust your partner? Why?

  Yes, because he has proved himself to be trustworthy, through good times and bad.

  6. What does it take for your trust to rebuild? Is it time? Certain actions of your partner?

  The biggest break of trust in our marriage happened when he realized that I wasn't going to be a JW anymore. For a while it really shook his trust in me. He thought that everything about me had changed. In fact, he told me that he didn't know me anymore, that I wasn't the person he had married anymore. That hurt, because I was the same person, still a good wife and mother... believing that the WTBTS is not God's mouthpiece on earth does not make me a bad person!!

  Once he realized that my ‘apostate’ activities were a betrayal to the WTS and not to him personally, or to our marriage, the trust he had in me before all this slowly returned.

  My husband has never betrayed my trust, so he’s never had to rebuild it, either.

  7. For you, what is the ultimate trust-breaker? That is, if your partner betrayed you on this, you could not rebuild your trust?

  Infidelity. Physical or emotional abuse.

  8. Has your partner ever told you that you must adjust your attitude and forgive them?

  No.

  9. Has your partner ever diminished your feelings of betrayal, for example, saying it's not such a big deal?

  No.

  10. Anything else to add? (My favorite question)

  When you trust someone, you can rely on them and have confidence in the decisions they will make. I think it’s closely related to predictability.

  The WT makes rules that govern every aspect of life. They tell you how to act, who to associate with, what to believe, etc. When one mate leaves the WT, none of that applies anymore, and the other mate is literally faced with someone who may now act in unpredictable ways, and whom they thus no longer trust. It really bothered me at first when my husband said he didn’t know me anymore, but now I understand what he meant. Personally, I have changed very little about myself since leaving the WT, largely to keep myself as predictable as possible. But I have the freedom to change if I want to, and I think that is really scary to him. So I had to tell him and show him what I believe now… I still want to stay married, keep our family intact, I still love him, I’m still honest with him, etc. I just don’t want to be a JW anymore. It took time for his trust in me to rebuild, I think, but it has. That’s not to say that we don’t have bad days, where he wants nothing more than for me to be a good JW again.. but they’re getting farther apart, it seems.
