nu 31:17-18 moses, following the lord's command, orders the israelites to kill all the midianite male children and "... every woman who has known man ...." (note: how would it be determined which women had known men?
one can only speculate.
dt 21:10-13 with the lord's approval, the israelites are allowed to take "beautiful women" from the enemy camp to be their captive wives.

one of my sister's was found laying in the door way of her home by a neighbor.
no one knows how long she had been there.
she was hypothermic when they found her.
((((((((((((((MsMcDucket)))))))))))))))
You've had way too much happening in your family lately. You need a break!!
I hope things go well with your sister. I'll be sending positive thoughts your way.

ok--i have decided i do want to answer the door when the elders return.
i won't let them speak at all, i am going to hold up my hand and tell them to let me have my say.
i am planning to say the following, and i'm trying to keep it very simple and to the point:.
And of course I forgot the point... Which is that if she had said what she said in an angry way, I would have just written her off as bitter, or unreasonable, or whatever. The way she said it was perfect.

I vote for saying your piece in a calm, respectful manner. Here's why:
When I was beginning to seriously doubt the JW teachings, I was out in service and we went to a door where a woman was watching her young grandchildren, who were running in and out. She had some VERY harsh words for us, and told us so, but said that she would tell us what she thought in a calm manner so as not to upset the kids present. And in a very respectful way, she delivered a few lines that hit home with me.
It was the very last time I ever went in service. I wish I could find that lady and thank her.

most of the time i'm ok with the problem i'm about to discuss.
it just seems that occasionally it hurts me more than others.. for those of you who's family are all jws: it was hard to leave all of your family behind but for whatever reason, it made you happier to go than to stay.
after you left, did you ever get scared that those in your new life would abaondon you as well?
I know exactly what you mean.
I have trust issues because of my upbringing, I can't trust my family and so I found it hard to trust anyone else in my life, either. When I married my husband, we were both JWs and I decided that I would trust that he would be there for me always. It was VERY hard. But, for example, I allowed myself to be a stay at home mom, which was very important to me, instead of having a career and the financial independence that would have given me.
When I left the JWs, my husband threatened to leave me. He didn't, and it has worked itself out, but I'm back to square one as far as trust goes.
So, I'm not sure what to tell you, except that you do need to find a way to trust. No man (or woman) is an island.....

dear friends,.
i just received a call from a concerned jw friend about what is going on behind my back.
a dfd friend whom i've been supporting through his mental distress and suicidal tendencies has done me a very strange turn.

Thinking of you and hoping things work out in the very best way possible.
Please let us know what happens!

first time posting, long time lurking.. came upon this site on accident a few years ago and dismissed it as a site for disgruntled people; however, in the past months i actively searched for it as it stuck in my mind.
believe it or not, i practically read all of the topics.
i felt, wow, i wasn't alone in my thinking and feelings about some things.. it all started years ago in my last year in high school and then into college.
Welcome, Rethinking!
Nice to have you here!

so i went to see my mom, and she was doing a lot better.
she was a lot more clear headed.
she was for the most part very much back in reality although she still thinks she was held down under a streetlight and beat by three black men just because she was standing there.
Oh I'm so glad!! Whew! You need a break, I hope things continue to go well for her there - and for you!
