What percentage of witnesses do you think have viewed apostate web sites?

humans are naturally curious creatures.

we learn from experience better than words.

so with the internet in almost every witness home, and the society constantly harping on people to avoid it, how many do you think have at least checked it out?

All in all, I guess the WT would make a smarter move if it turned back to air and answer the main criticisms publicly instead of keeping them secret, so most JWs would know what they may find on an "apostate" site and think they already have the answers rather than being surprised when they venture online.

They already do this, though. They say that apostate websites are full of disgruntled, disfellowshipped people who have a gripe with the WTS. They spread lies through their apostate websites, and since they are so evil and directly opposed to Jehovah, they are guilty of the unforgivable sin and faithful JWs need to stay far, far away.

It's the fear that keeps the faithful away, imho.

1- keep the world the way it is, never revealing yourself.

or 2-immediately reveal yourself to mankind.. none of us has a direct line to him and im not even sure im convinced he exists like i was taught from childhood.

but damit i cannot understand for the life of me, why if he exists, he doesnt show himself in some way.... we know no one has absolute truth.our exp has shown us that just when we think we have the truth we were dead wrong.

I thought God could read hearts.

I also wonder why he doesn't say hi. I wonder a lot of things about God.

When I finally googled Jehovah's Witnesses and accessed 'apostate' websites, I was so completely distraught and frustrated by what I should believe that it was a last-ditch effort to find out what God wanted me to do. I seriously thought I'd be struck by lightning or that the elders would decend on my home and DF me or something.

I think fear keeps most JWs away from apostate sites. I think that one reason the WTS is talking so much about the evils of apostates is precisely because there are so many people with internet access now, and the fear is the only thing they have to control the R&F anymore.

I couldn't deal with the guilt as a JW. I was constantly feeling I wasn't good enough, even though I pioneered straight out of high school and did everything I possibly could to be a perfect JW.

When I finally realized that the WT was false and that Armageddon wasn't coming any day now, I felt like I had just been given decades of life. I had been sure that I would have been killed at Armageddon because I wasn't good enough.

Freedom is a wonderful thing.

Putting together info on proof of 607 vs. 586......

the wts has erroneously set the fall of jerusalem in the year 607. i'm trying to put together information, for our son, proving that this date is false.

i've decided when our son brings up the subject of his involvement in the wts, i will then show him this information.

i feel this particular subject is the wisest to go with.

UPDATE ON DANSK

it's been a long time since i posted here but i often read your messages when ian (dansk) logs on.

as most of you will know, ian will be going back into hospital on monday for an allogeneic stem cell transplant and will be away from the forum for a good few weeks (hopefully he'll be back home within 4-6 weeks).

last time he was in hospital many of you sent messages to his ward and i know they cheered him up immensely.

THE WTS: CRASH OR SLOWLY FADE AWAY?

i was just reading the thread about barbara anderson and perhaps some big news she will publish about the wts.

i agree with those who say that anything barbara has scandalous about the early history of the witnesses, ie: russel or rutherford times, will have zero impact.

that whole era is pretty much dismissed by all witnesses i know.

A "Captive" No Longer

okay, i recently read "captives of a concept" by don cameron and i am utterly shocked, yet i feel so i don't know- hell, free!

this guilt of believing in "god's organization" and feeling as if i was losing something that in reality never even existed!

at first i felt so guilty, as if it was my issues that led me to my path of not having faith in the organization and in a sense always believed that i was just immoral and couldn't uphold the standards.

Elders' wives and elders' kids - any different from the RnF?

elder's wives - the general impression of them in my congregation is that they are not to be messed with.

ews are all smiles in front of guests but brutally unaccomodating to more familiar brothers and sisters.

they put much effort in making "good" comments at the meetings, with the occasional veiled insult directed at certain individuals (i suppose this is the only outlet for a lady in jehovah's patriarchy).

My husband is an elder. I think it has made my fade much more difficult in many ways, because he's been pressured by the other elders to pressure me. This in addition to the normal problems we'd had as a couple where one has left the WT and the other one stays.

In all my years as an elder's wife, my husband has never leaked any confidential info to me or the kids. He will go on a shepherding call and not tell me who he is going to, or have 'meetings' with someone and not tell me who. When the kids got to the age that they would ask him questions about who/what/where, he'd tell them, "That's none of your concern."

I thought my fade would cause him to be removed as an elder, but I guess not. If the kids were to stop 'obeying' him and refuse to go to the meetings while they are still living at home, then he could potentially be removed. That puts a huge burden on the shoulders of my kids.... they feel like they would ruin his life if they weren't model JW kids.
