It's, erm, 14 pounds multiplied by 9. The reference is to an old British ad for some bodybuilding device which asked 'Are you a nine stone weakling?' and depicted a weedy guy getting sand kicked in his face by a six-packed beaut on a beach. It's a Brit thang, honey.

Long term effects of drug etc use.
by JeffT infurther proof that the long term implications of.
drugs/procedures must be fully considered..... over the past few years more money has been spent on breast implants, penis implants and viagra than on alzheimer's.
in a few years we will have a lot of people running around with huge breasts and long penises and they won't remember what to do with them.

Hi
Sorry for coming so late to this post, but I hope I can still be of some help. I believe that our conscience is an in-born link between us and a sense of universal morality - contact with God, if you like. The direction it takes is molded and formed by the society in which we find ourselves living; for a tribal chief, getting completely stoned and going out to kill a monkey is a heroic, many thing to do; in our society, doing the same thing would result in Trouble.I actually believe God watches over us, but in a loving way - it's so unlike the JW god that I can't begin to describe the difference. i still catch myelf monitoring my thoughts, realise I'[m doing it in case they come 'from the Devil' and then thanking God that I have a free mind with which to think what I will. I may well ask for his guidance, but i know he understands I need to think about and question things. It doesn't mean I lack faith; the contrary, in fact - at least I'm interested.
For me the difference is this; and it may sound fuzzy but we're in ephemeral terrain here - real conscience speaking makes me feel adult, responsible, a person who can make their own choices. False conscience, the voice of Jdub mind-control, makes me feel little, fearful and bad. Maybe see if that guideline works for you?
Wishing you strength in your recovery from the Jdubs

Loads more people with no useful skills on benefits and mental hospitals put on red alert for new admissions. That's my entirely uncynical opinion. :-)

Monkey trial
by moman init seems this whole debate, (creation v/s evolution) iz coming to the fore again, along with (religion v/s state) debate.
my sister iz a producer for pbs & haz a documentary coming up on the scopes or (monkey trial), & i think little haz changed.. i am non-religious, but i can't help laughing when arguements are made claiming man & monkeys share common ansesters, although a few individuals on my wifes side make me wonder.
i am not saying, i have the answers, but man iz just so radicaly different from animals!

I would just like to say that, as a Chimp, I find the whole suggestion that I am in any way related to the human deeply offensive. How many wars have chimps started? How much damage have we done to the ozone layer (apart through natural flatulence)? How much dodgy porn have we made? And wht about fashion faux pas? Chimps never wore shoulder pads or lycra leggings, except when forced to by humans for their 'entertainment'. We don't have religious conflicts. We don't need to wrap ourselves in garments to stay alive and it doesn't take us 18 years to grow up.
But we can scratch behind our ears with our feet, so there.

Apostate overseers visit
by sleepy inhello i've been sent from botchtower headquaters to see how the flock of apostate are digressing spiritualy.. as we all know it is important to be inactive in the service and meetings and i see that many of you are doing well.. it can be hard though , sometimes when we come home from work tiered it is all too easy to get washed and changed and to rush of to a meeting without stoping to eat.. but without trust in the holyspirit you can become stong and my be able to get into the habit of watching tv or maybe even going to the pub.. even if you can do a little tv watching a day instead of reading the watchtower and awake it will help.. in order to combat the desires of the spirit we must replace them with more apostate things.i notice that some of you have not been active on the internet recently.. this is not good for your progress.. on my next visit i would like to see more non attendance at meetings less studying and more engagment in materialistic pursuits.. oh and some of you have been reporting your hours, please consider the relevent material as whether this is unscriptual or not.. with warm love and apostate greetings ,.

Dear AO
I feel it is not my duty to report to you that a certain non-sister of my acquaintance is dressing modestly. She does not adorn herself with make-up, nor does she wear skirts that come above the knees. I tried to persuade her to buy some trousers, but, of all things, she blushed! I also fear that she is not indulging in loose conduct and wondered if you could in any way assist?

Thanks for sharing that, Lisa, rang quite a few bells for me, too - like why is it everything you want to do is forbidden? WAnting to run track is such a healthy, wholesome activity for a young person, too. When my parents told me no way could I go to university (worldly influences) I became a complete delinquent and dropped out of school.
The emotional blackmail thing struck home, too. Whenever my mother was losing an argument with me, she'd go all hurt and tearful. Then her arthritis would start playing up - stress induced, by me, of course. She'd got a way of cringing around the place looking hurt that completely confused my emotions and made me feel like a 'bad' person.
Anyway, glad you're out of the Lie now and enjoying life! Great that you get on well with your mum now, too!

Hi Wonder Woman and welcome on board. I'm a newbie here myself, but have been posting on another board for a year or so. I can sympathise with you because I'm bisexual, and going through adolescence in the JWs is bad enough without having additional 'complications' to contend with. Also I have a friend with borderline, so I guess you've been through a fair amount of abuse from your mum - my friend's never had a real go at me, but boy have I heard her lay into other people, and then spend days at a time crying, reverting almost to being a little girl. She also has an eating disorder and problems with alcohol. Apart from that, she's a real sweet girl!
Anyway, looking forward to getting to know you better, TTFN
