Learn to Swim,
You should read Br Russell's volumnes. You sound like you agree with the Bible Students view on many things and they are free from the corruption that occured after Rutherford took over.

i thought they taught that the internet is bad... a product from the devil.. association with worldlies.. maybe even so called apostates.

It was a horribly dumb decision. I was a happy and stable person who became a suicidal mess. I am thankful I am just alive. I also use to trust people. My family, my husband. I now trust no one now. I know that most people only like you if you are doing what they want.
i am researching cutting and self-mutilation because i have a close family member who is doing this--she burned her arm last week and it's bad.
i was wondering--i found an article on the internet that talks about support for the person and how some people get relief by using other methods like icing the skin with ice cubs or flicking themselves with rubber bands.. this person is in therapy and in the care of a psyciatrist too but i just wondered how common this is.
her diagnosis isn't even for sure--could be adhd or depression.. any comments on experience with this would be helpful.
Lifes Emotions become so overwhelming and feelings so difficult to deal with, a person will hurt themselves to have a feeling they can control. The persons probably also has many rapid painful thoughts that they can't control and the pain of hurting themselves gives them this brief sense of focus. The best thing you can do is love, love, love and let them know above anything else they must focus on their disorder first and if others don't understand that then they weren't worth having in your life in the first place. If they are JW's remind them over and over again, each person is different and they can only do what they can do. The Watchtower led me down a very dangerous road that involved cutting among numerous mental disorders. I wasn't trying to kill myself with the cutting just to have some control over something. Sadly I was perfectly fine before ever getting involved with Witnesses
i always remember a point to the watchtower study, was that your comments should be about something that meant something to you or something you learned from the experience.
well, did anyone have a brother or sister in the congregation who did this .... "i would like to define the meaning to the most simplest word in this paragraph, to see if i can seem smart for knowing how to use a dictionary?".
... when i say simple word, i mean people defining "honor" or maybe something like "knowledge" or any other word a person with an education beyond the forth grade would know without the look-up.
My first complaint about the WTBS was the pick the answer out of the paragraph meeting form. The few times people made comments from their brain they were awful
1)One women shouted that all the gays should have to apologize
2)Another man started swearing in his answer about the government
3)Another said that helping someone in need was like pushing the ocean with a broom
4)Another women was talking about a householder she studied with that accepted and believed all the literature but was afraid to leave her house. The women studying with her said too bad that is just not enough.
I could go on and on. I was shocked at the comments JW's would made.
i've been disfellowshipped for 4 years now (for loose conduct - lol) .
what i want to know is, what am i supposed to believe now?
i was brought up a jw but i know that so many of their teachings and doctrines are completely false.
Don't rush anywhere. Based on what you say you know you believe, I would say take some time. Read the bible, do some research. Once you have a framework and then want fellowship find a place where you can hold the beliefs you have. Or if you want to go somewhere right away hold everything to question. I find that of the Christians I have met, the truly serious ones have been through a couple groups before they found a home and the home has not all been the same place.
the following notice appeared in the advent christian times, may 20, 1872, page 24. .
to correspondents .
russell, jr .
Russell was never opposed to reading literature outside of his own. He actually encourage over and over again for people to do their own research. The crackdown on reading outside literature came from Rutherford. Russell had a short list of required beliefs for someone to be considered a brother in Christ. The article was called Things more or less important. Fascinating enough since Salvation for All was one of requirements, Russell would not have associated with JW's spiritually if he were alive today according to their beliefs.
since our god is a merciful god, can we assume by now that the gb has asked jehovah for forgiveness of its mess, miss calculations, the un thing and so forth and he's forgiven them?
What is repentance?
If one is repentant they will attempt to the best to there ability to make up for their sins. If it was illegal, they should turn themselfs in to the authorities, if they injured someone they should do everything possible to correct what they injured. If nothing can be done they can at least publically admit their sins to their brothers/sisters and state how going foward they will be preventing the sin from happening again. Since the WTBS has not done any of the things, they cannot be repentant. Since they don't feel they need to show repentence for the people they have damaged, killed etc, they don't follow the bible. This makes them just another corrupt corporate system.
ok, it could be a motorcycle or a truck too.
If you go to meetings in the wealthier areas, you will see some way over the top cars. I went to Boca Raton for a business meeting and attended the hall there. I pulled up in my ford rental and parked between a whole slew of BMW's, Lexus's, Mercedes, you name it. And to think I had an Elder make a snide remark to me about the money I must be making. I have three bedroom condo that I bought a total disaster and I drive a 5 year old honda. Go Figure. This Elder had a house, two cars(even though him and wife were retired) and a boat.
i am definatly not a jw anymore.
but what am i. my husband wants to find a church home, but everytime he talks about it the hair on the back of my neck stands up.
i would rather have my teeth drilled.
I would look into other unitarian groups. You will probably agree most with their doctrines. I would say the most mainstream in the Unitarian Universalists. There are quite a few others(Laymans, Bible Students, Philadelphians). Many quakers have silent worship. I have never been to a Quaker meeting but I know they are very active and charity and if they are silent seems pretty easy to agree.
I went with the unofficial standard Catholic formula ($5.00 per family member per week) . Slip the priest(oh sorry) throw in a little extra for special occasion. I think this was so ingrained in my head it just carried over.
