greetings from the ``here we go again'' department.
while worldlings have only the song of the robins and the bloom of the daffodils and crocuses as harbingers of spring, jehovah's people and readers of their literature can always count on two more: the annual ``don't partake!
'' article in the watchtower, and the yearly exhortation to ``make nice at the summer's assemblies'' in the km.. in the case of the latter, the tone and content of the annual scolding is unbelievably demeaning to any responsible adult... being told to dress nice (suits and ties only, please, for the men and deresses only -- not too short ladies) not to abuse complimentary breakfasts, pool privileges and generally avoid rowdiness at the hotels where they stay-- all laced with clearly fabricated -- not to mention unattributed-- quotes from ``worldly observers amazed by our fine conduct.''.

are we close?.

Mamma-mia! It works!
i sure hope this is satire, because if it's real, it would be very scary knowing people like this are around.
the dubs are bad enough!.
love, scully.
What is very interesting about that site (which IS a parody) is the number of times that mainstream news outlets get hold of something from there and show it as real.
While visiting there, be sure to read the section of real emails that they receive from visitiors. The majority of them have no clue that it is a parody, and take them to task. The letters are a riot.

Wow, did I ever read the title of this thread wrong!
I now you meant "Violet, did you know?"
But I read it as: "Violet did You Know!" which was a far more intriguing subject.

so what do you drink, where and how?.
of course in britian we drink our pints down the pub.. i have to laught when i'm in europe as they only drink tiny glasses of beer , when you ask for their equivalent of a pint they look at you as if you are some nut case.. anyway i usually get through a couple of bottles of wine and several pints of larger a week.i drink most nights but not too much.. is it true that the legal age for alcohol is 21 in the states?.
i remember celabrating my baptism at 17 with a few pints in the pub.
In the states, it is 21 now. Back when I was 18, it was 18 and by the time it was turned back to 21 I was over 21, so I timed that whole thing right. It is "officially" up to the states themselves to decide the age, but the federal government will withold highway funds for states with a drinking age less than 21, in much the same way that they imposed the (since repealed) 55mph speedlimit in the 1970's.
As far as getting a beer in Europe goes, I was most surprised when I first saw them pour EXACTLY to the line in the glass, as though the stuff were worth more than gold. In the states, they will slosh it around and spill out what they want until the glass looks right, but in some places (Norway for example) I have even seen bartenders save the foam when changing kegs and piecing together a glass of beer from it. And doen't even get me started on mixed drinks there! My local watering hole here in providence will make you a mixed drink in a pint glass with a good heafty pour of whatever, and none of that measured-pour business. Some US establishments do measure each pour, but it is viewed as a negative by the customers. Then again, some states have very restrictive hard-liquor laws and require careful controls over portions. Thankfully Rhode Island is not among them.
this is an english robin, one of our commonest birds.
its nothing like an american robin, however.
for a fairly complete us / uk dictionary, click here.. http://www.isi.edu/~brian/liter/dictukus.html.
This one may help as well;
it has been a few months since i have posted.
i am asking my friends here to take a minute to follow this link to a front page article in the providence journal bulletin (the main newspaper in the state of rhode island) and read the information concerning the latest candidate to join the race for governor.. it is my wife.
although her decision to enter this race (despite 4 generations of jw heritage, pioneering, etc..) was solidified many months ago, i did not have an opportunity to plan for such instant publicity and media coverage.. i too have been busy exiting the federal government and launching my technology company.
Considering that it is the smallest state, there are certainly a disproportunate number of us 'Vo Dilanders here! I am in Rumford.
the technical literature on cults reckons that stress is a big factor in cult conversion.. a lot of cults induce varied emotional states within recruits,.
they artificially generate conflict in the minds of the recruits.
in fact, of the ones ive seen, most of them do in some way or other!.
My mother was recruited right around the time I was born. She was ripe for the picking, with a husband who drank like a fish and sundry other issues going on. The organization gave her some nice easy answers for complex problems.

what do you do when you see people holding the cardboard signs?
sunday afternoon i was driving to a day spa in seattle for a pedicure.
i was sitting at a red light and there was an older man holding a cardboard sign.
I am curious as to where that number comes from (ie; the average homeless person being a 9-year old). I can't understand how one would arrive at that figure. I'm not claiming that you are incorrect in citing this as something which was put forth as a valid number, but I would be interested in seeing the data behind it.
A large percentage of homeless people are folks who, prior to the early 1970's, would have been in psychiatric facilitles. I deal with many of them every day at the hospital where I do volunteer work, and can tell you that many of them are simply not capable of taking care of themselves.
