Is It "Wrong" To Say That Someone "Sounds" Black??

i saw boston legal this past tuesday and denny crane said he was impressed by the "articulate" man who didn't "sound" black.

this caused an uproar!!!

in a re-run on curb your enthusiasm, larry david makes a comment that's insulting to a black person and has to immediately apologize for being politically incorrect.. your opinion on this question, please..

Can I say that many people play up to their stereotype? Everyone likes to be part of a larger group and they often affect the diction, speech pattern and vocabulary of the group they associate with.

Hell, Eminen and Vanilla Ice "sound" black. That would be the black stereotype as imagined by suburban white youth. My Chinese/Black Jamaican friend sounds British and was educated in private schools there.

I guess it all depends on how much TV you watch and whether your parents forced you to go to cotillion and take diction classes.

"no smoking".... it defiles your body and goes against scripture.. so as a witness, when pushing this train of thought, did it ever occur to anyone that when ever you dug in to those fried eggs, bacon cheeseburgers, and gallons of icecream, you were doing the same exact thing?.

smoking over a long period of time can kill you.

eating artery congesting foods over a long period of time can kill you.

I would reckon that forbidding young people to have sexual release would rank up there with defilement as well.

the lenths jws go to to avoid you

went to the chemist the other day parked near my brother in laws car in car park.he saw me and turned away.my wife went into chemist had to wait 10 minutes all the time my elder brother in law sat in car.we moved closer to supermarket as soon as we had moved i watch him go into chemist he was waiting for us to leave so he could go in.. i then went into supermarket i watched him do a whole lap of the car park walking so he wouldn,t have to walk past my car with wife and kids in.

he thought the coast was clear didn,t know i was in there so i ambushed him in an isle smiled said hello he smiled said hello then the jw shunning part of his brain kicked in head down walk straight and frown.. saw my mother in car latter and she covered her face .

i think they feel uncomportable.

I have a sure fire tactic that will break them free of the brainwashing. I have seen it used with good effect on hard-core JHoes.

Just walk up to them publicly and loudly say "I still love you (brother, Mom, whatever)"

Elders on my tail

as mentioned before, i have not been to a mtg since january.

i have not spoken to anyone in the congregation about my decisions as of late and i dont plan on informing anyone either.

i have had the elders at my door at least once a week for the last few months and every car group out in service that needs to fill in some time are stocking me here too.

gun control laws don't stop this kind of determined killer anywhere in the world.

Rule one of a gunfight is to have a gun.

I can tell you what happened in at least a few of the deaths based on personal experience in another situation. A gentleman walked up to an Engineer who was sitting in front of a city building filled with people waiting to pay their water bills. Right in front of at least 200 people he demanded his Rolex then shot him right in the head when he refused.

Sure as the sun sets, above all the screaming, the predominant scream was "Get down on the floor!" And lots of people did just that presumably to save the guy from having to run to shoot them all I guess? I always though rule two of a gun fight was "If you aint got a gun, then run like hell"

A household with a swimming pool is 100 times more likely to result in a child death than a household with a gun.

It's pretty darn easy to store a firearm in a secure, child-proof container. A pool, not so easy.

On the other hand most people don't realize that 150 MILLION Americans have IQs below 100. That much below-averageness makes for a turbulent ride.

Not really dude, but I really had to question the logic of lowering the US flag to half-mast because someone shot up a college. Meanwhile, back in the not-US, this kind of thing happens ten or a hundred times daily and barely raises a blip on the screen. This is why I threw in the "brown people" comment. If a million or two Africans die like what happened (and still happens) in Rwanda the best you could hope for is an "awwwww tooo bad". If US troops kill a few thousand Iraqi civilians or poison the entire country with depleted uranium rounds, it's "collateral damage" or "well they should have stayed away from the fighting"; 33 Blonde girls and flags go to half mast and POTUS makes a personal visit. I guess it's the blatant disregard for everything not contained in CONUS that makes me bitter.

Call me a person who likes to keep things in Buddhist perspective. Sure it sucked for the folks who were shot, but on a global scale what happened in VA is nothing.

The good news is that if they weren't "goats" they may have a chance.

watching all the pundits on tv after the killings at va tech yesterday, there were a handful of things that kept getting repeated that are just stupid.

usually they also require an impossible level of hindsight (which a good number of the pundits have, it seems).

i've just got to rant about this for a few minutes.

In essence, what this woman was demanding was that there be well-trained, armed guards protecting ANY gathering of people at ALL times. It simply can't be done. I don't believe that even a totalitarian police state could achieve that level of "security" and an open, democratic one NEVER could.

AHEM....cough... cough... ISRAEL!
