Do you rather an automatic or manual transmission?

my first cars were all "manual" and they were small cars, cheap on gas.. then later on in life, i spoiled myself and bought automatic cars.. last week, i tried a manual yaris, and wasn't that comfortable with the manual transmission.

maybe it's the fact that i didn't drive a manual car in 6 years.. just wondering if anyone here after driving automatic transmission cars since many years, if you would come back to manual..

Manual transmission drivers are safer.

Probably because they have to pay attention rather than just sitting down in the traveling living room couch like many drivers.

Congregations Closing Down

i recently heard about a congregation that was "diabanded".

the publishers were reassigned to other congregations.

is this happening elsewhere or just a local thing?

And we were TOLD what congregation to go to and there was no arguing about it.

I'll vouch for that one!

I was basically told "too bad" when I mentioned that switching to the new congregation an hour from my home rather than staying at the local KH with my getting-to-be-friends would present hardships for my family.

I must say that my former PO raised holy hell with the CO and the new PO when he found out that this statement basically caused me to go inactive.

Now very very sporadic. Will never trust them again.

Chemical weapons being used ... how about it America?

of course, as it's the murdering, war-crime-committing, un-mandate-ignoring, nuclear-non-proliferation-flouting israeli friends of america, they probably won't see it as an issue at all.. funny that ... they were dead keen on going to war over just the hint of this very thing but probably won't even condemn it.. it's about time that sanctions were imposed on israel.

Actually the single worst war-time tragedy (even including the nuclear attacks) was Britain's phospherous attacks against Dresden.

Unlike Israel's attacks against possible rocket sites, Dresden had no military targets.

Cover Letter and Letter of Disassociation.

i am forced to either accept df'ing without any defense [i clearly have none against charges of apostasy], or to at least 'speak my mind' one last time as i exit, with a hope of perhaps helping others to 'wake up'.. to that end - i have elected to send a letter of da to the elders - but more importantly - a copy of it, with a cover letter, to several families in the congregation.

most of these things never have a positive result, i know.

but at least i have attempted in this way to give a little defense for my position.

For those just reading this letter, this is an excellent example of why so few Jehovah Witnesses congos publish member lists for the use of the members.

It's not because the leaders don't have the info, JWs are probably the tightest controlled group in that respect.

No, the group that urges its members to address each other as "brother" doesn't want members to have each others address and phone numbers (in an easy to use format) because of what AK did.

They are very afraid of this kind of thing which means that it must be continued.

The Geneva Conventions ban the use of white phosphorus as an incendiary weapon against civilian populations and in air attacks against military forces in civilian areas.

Hey Simon, I realize you are quick to spew forth, but it is not a "chemical weapon"; it causes "chemical burns." There is a huge difference.

Even the Geneva Convention has no problems with using WP, only that it is not used amongst the civilian population LIKE THE BRITS DID TO DRESDEN.

Amazingly enough it was that debacle by you folks that set the wheels in motion to open enough eyes to Allied atrocities against civilians in WW2 that brought about some of these Geneva Convention changes.

JW's shunning baptized wife and family because of unbaptized husband

i saw a related thread around here but can't locate it so i'm posting this personal observation on what i would call a "high-profile" couple.

rich and bright i met them at the kh.

it starts about three years ago when a family moved to our area; a couple and their child.

That I was imagining it. When I told him that I had seen the just married brother at the family's house three times in as many week ends, eating their food, swimming in their pool, enjoying their hospitality etc, but shunning them when it came to his wedding he promised to look into it.

I also mentioned I was very surprised that the "friends" would exclude a sister in good standing from all their activities. I asked "she is in good standing isn't she?" and he admitted yes.

Obviously I'm on my way out because what I'm doing by pointing out the hypocrisy is viewed as "causing divisions" but that's my plan anyway. I'm just biding my time to get into the locked file cabinet and "review" and copy some juicy DF'ings

Lots of Dubz go to their house every weekend (no Elders now that you mention it) but they never get invited to other Dub functions except for dinner at my palatial estate.

Just spent the day today skiing with the Dad (they have a Ski Nautique) and kids while the Mom was in service all day.

I get the impression that no matter how pious she tries to be she will never be accepted.

Tactless Dubs

is it me or do dubs have no clue how to be tactful and pretty much just spew whatever is on their minds??

i used to work out of my home, doing medical transcription, with a newborn next to me and two in school.

the car groups used to stop at my house unannounced to use the bathroom and would wander around my house examining my stuff and my cleaning job.

You need to remember that these are the same people who needed to be reminded before EVERY assembly to only use three squares of toilet paper (or was that to leave a tip when they were dressed in their JW uniforms?)

Not the brightest bunch, not the best mannered but constantly told they are "better" than every one else produces a kind of rap-star mentality but with no violence.
