How Well Educated Are You?
by minimus in.
12 years of schooling (and never stayed back, either) for me.....and you?
?

Education is one of the few things that I feel I did alright in ... especially considering I was home-schooled (you know how those JWs are with the homeschooling!)
I have a BS in Education and an MS in Curriculum and Instruction. I am currently working on my Specialists degree in Instructional Technology! (a specialists degree is inbetween a masters and a doctorate).
Hey Min ... have you ever done a poll on how many have been home schooled? Would be interested to see ... I knew A LOT of witnesses who were. Most didn't finish, though.

A Thanksgiving tale...
by Jim_TX inanother thread about thanksgiving caused me to remember something that happened a long time ago.... when i was a teenager - my mom and the rest of us kids went on an adventure... i believe it was up to dallas... or thereabouts.
anyway, on the way - the ol' '52 desoto that we had... you know... those 3-seaters... (you see them used as taxis in old bing crosby movies)... well, anyway - the car broke down in temple, texas.. so... there we were, all fretting about being stuck (it happened to be on thanksgiving day, too) - and were at this gas station.
(did you know that in the 60's most places closed on thanksgiving day?).

That's so typical, Jim! And "worldly" people are considered soooo evil!
Just wondering ... how much did your mom have to do with them after that? Was it another 10 years before you saw them again?

A Display of WT and Awake at a Garage Sale?? Gag!
by Wild_Thing inmy jw mother had a garage sale this past weekend and asked to borrow my folding tables.
she lives with some other old jw self-righteous, too-nosy-for-her-own-good lady and they were having it together.
i lent her the tables and asked if she could put some of my things in the garage sale that didn't sell last time ... she agreed.

My JW mother had a garage sale this past weekend and asked to borrow my folding tables. She lives with some other old JW self-righteous, too-nosy-for-her-own-good lady and they were having it together. I lent her the tables and asked if she could put some of my things in the Garage Sale that didn't sell last time ... she agreed.
I go over there Saturday morning, and her room mate had a display of Watchtowers and Awakes right in the midst of the items they were selling! (On one of MY tables too! ) It made me wonder if she was counting her time! At any rate, I have never seen anything tackier! I wonder how many people left when they saw them!
Later, my mom (reminder ... she is a devout JW) told me that she had no idea her room mate was going to set them out and told me she thought it was tacky because they weren't out in service. (Sometimes her out-of-the-blue common sense scares me!) Then she said, "I wonder if she noticed that she set them on a table right next to your Christmas items I set out to sell." LOL! I have never laughed harder! She said she probably didn't because she never notices anything, but I have a hard time believing that!

Were you illegally disfellowshipped?
by hubert inbased on "official" bible based doctrine, were you "illegally disfellowshipped?
i have been reading many threads on disfellowsipping, and it makes me wonder if there were many who were disassociated, or thrown out of the org.
for reasons other than what the watchtower officially teaches?
-
Wild_Thing
Since when is disfellowshipping of any kind bible based??? Seems to me, it is just another policy where the witnesses, yet again, twist scripture to fit their own policies. Therefore, I officially deem them all illegal, null, and void!

For JWs, it is either # 11 or 13.
My mother ... #11 ... when I left the org, she confided in me that she felt much of what I did, and had for years (about the hyposcrisy and cover-ups ... my family has seen/experienced a lot). But she said that she believed Jehovah would end it some day, and the JWs is the best that is out there right now. Seeing how she was raised a witness herself, I don't see how she had much opportunity to explore other religions, but that is what she said! <shaking head .....>
One of my sisters ... #13 ... I have come to see that she believes none of it and is only in it out fear and blackmail. What a miserable existence! I have little sympathy for her though ... she has seen and experienced everything that I have and she is knowingly committing herself and her daughter to a long life full of hypocrisy and lies.

A Question For JW's Concerning Sticking To Their Own Kind...?
by Mr Parody ini'm not a witness myself, i'm not even religious, but i know this younger woman who is.
i thought we hit it off pretty well.
i became attracted to her by her beauty, then infatuated by her kindness, and sweet personality...then i found out she was a jw.. i was told by another witness (a newbe witness) that jw's stick to their own kind, and do not stray outside as far as romance go's and i would have no chance at all with her...is this true???.
-
Wild_Thing
I agree with everyone else. She wants to convert you, no doubt! She may possibly be thinking of you in more of a romantic way, but if she is as devout as you say, I doubt that is the case if she knows you are a married man. Unless you want to be a JW, I would not walk, but run very far away from this woman! Just my opinion ...

Does Your JW Family Do This?????????
by Wild_Thing inokay ... here's what happened .... first, some background ... i am the youngest of three daughters raised in the org (we are third generation), and i left for good more than four years ago (i left in my heart a long time before that).
they tried to shun me for a while, but couldn't keep it up any longer than 6 months, and after that we slowly got close again.
my mother and sisters are all still witnesses.

I get what you are saying, Scully. I do not think smoking is wrong. I smoke at times myself (only when I drink! ) I don't even have a problem with her sneaking around and doing it. It is another one of the JWs stupid rules! And I understand WHY she chose to deny it and make my neice and I out to be the untruthful ones, but it still makes me so mad. But, the sad fact is ... even if she had owned up to it and told them that it was none of their business and used it as an opportunity to leave the religion (my preference), she would still be an idiot, selfish, and a bit of a liar. Maybe things will never be "sisterly" between us. Come to think of it ... probably not.

None 'o your bizness to say anything in the first place.
I didn't say anything in the first place ... it was my neice who found the cigarettes and accused her of smoking. Should I have lied for her? I actually thought about lying for her, but then I would be calling my neice a liar, too. Besides that, the circumstances surrounding it all surfacing really caught me off guard!
And I am trying to be like Switzerland and have not said word one to anyone else about it except her .. honestly, I hope they don't pursue it, but at the same time, I can't stand being called a liar, and my sister just cannot see how/ why it is wrong!
Am I wrong?
