  Please Help!

  i dont know how to exactly word this but i am having a problem and am needed of advice!.

  my mother and i were talking and i was never intelligent or had deep information on the jw religion ever in my life.

  i was mainly a follower and thought it was the truth and never had the need to question anything as maybe some of you felt the same as i do and did.

  I think you are more intelligent than you give yourself credit for .... you are intelligent enough to see through their smoke. It is just that it is impossible to reason with someone who can only repeat lines from WT publications. They are like recordings ... and the recordings are distributed to all of the congregations because my mother says the same garbage ... verbatim! Or at least she did ... we don't discuss it anymore. Do these sound familiar?

  "It's not like this in all congregations."

  "Jehovah's organization is run by imperfect men."

  "We have to wait on Jehovah to clean his own household."

  "It doesn't matter, it's still the truth."

  There are a lot of wise people on here who can probably give you some good things to say to her, but my experience has been that it will not matter. It is like talking to a brick wall. You cannot reason with the unreasonable.

  I think it is admirable that you do not wish to have your kids grow up in the same lie that you grew up in. It is hard to shake the guilt with family throwing the same old tired JW lines at you, but eventually it loses its effectiveness and she will stop trying.

  Why does God let bad things happen?

  this question seems to be getting thrown around in the earthquake threads, and is asked a lot... so, what is your opinion on why god allows bad things to happen?

  also, did you stop believing in god because he allows it?.

  i will throw my two-penneth in when i have a little more time tonight.

  This topic reminds me of another instance that I frequently see/hear people discuss. It is along these same lines. I hope I don't offend.

  Whenever someone is sick or has a tragedy, people will get on the bandwagon to pray for them. "Pray for them ... they need all the prayers they can get, etc." as if more prayers will persuade God to save them. Then, if the person gets better ... "God answered our prayers!"

  My problem with this is what makes them so darn special that God answered their prayer, and didn't answer the other prayers and "allowed" little Susie Bobo to die on the next street? (By the way ... there is really no Susie Bobo.)

  i remember being at an assemble a few years ago when the d.o said that 40 of us sitting there would not be in the truth next year.

  i was gripped by fear, i knew sometime, i didnt know when, that i would be one.. i was strong in the truth but i knew.

  now have we been refined "out " of the congregation was it envitable?

  I am sorry you are still so afraid! I can relate so well! I still have nightmares sometimes too, but they are few and far between now, which is progress. It was those darn pictures I always looked at when I was a kid! I guess I was a very visual learner because I still can't get the images out of my head!

  The witnesses teachings are built on a foundation of fear. Even after we leave, it takes a long time to get a sense of the reality because underneath all the lies and false teachings that are pretty easy to uncover, there is still that foundation of fear to break down. I think if you are raised as a witness, it is even more baffling because it is just THERE, even in the midst of everything telling you that it is an unfounded fear.

  I takes time, but it does get better. I think I almost have it beat! ... I think.

  You mean that new light DIDN'T come from you??? JK. Their grade of BS can be spotted a mile away. Although, if I was quoting from them, I would BE SURE to give them credit where credit is due!

  there are many thing i dont regret about jw

  learning from jw about cristmas is one of them

  the jw were very open about cristmas, going against the "system" require some strenght and that in itself attracted many to the jw org.

  LOL,

  participating in this thread has been frustrating because it proves to me ( as I already knew) that those who are still dedicated JWs can never understand life from "outside their box". They are right and we are wrong. They have the spirit of Jehovah.( *sarcasm*) No matter what we say or do, we are wrong.

  Perhaps ignorance REALLY IS BLISS.

  Willyloman summed it up early on in this thread by saying " do not feed the troll".

  I agree! I give up! It's like watching a hamster tread inside the hamster wheel!

  Forgive me if this is an ignorant view; but isn't plagerism (sp) only related to those wanting to profit in some way from the copywrited words of others? I agree that it is iriitating when it is obviously not original thoughts - but is it as serious as that on a forum? Don't get me wrong - I think credit should be given where deserved - but is this a 'mountains out or molehill' argument?

  Plagiarism is simply taking any writing of someone else and presenting is as your own. It doesn't have to be copyrighted. And yes ... it may be making a mountain out of a molehill when applying it to message forums, but it is irritating nonetheless!

  Example? I ask because you may be assuming that the "original" source you found on the Internet was not written by the same person who "plagiarized" their own thoughts later.

  No ... I don't want to give examples. For several reasons ... like one person said ... they may not realize that it is necessarily rude or wrong. I think it is, but I concede it is probably, most definitely a pet peeve of mine. Also, I don't want to put anybody on the spot and possibly emabarass someone or cause hard feelings. If you want examples, I am sure you can find them.

  I do understand that some people on this site have their own webpages or have their writings published elsewhere. That is not what I am referring to.

  Coincidence or Stress?

  recently and over the years some of the elders and ministerial servants who have been deleted and or forced to step down have died young.

  what do you attribute this to?

  do you know of such occurances in your cong.

  This is my theory ...

  most of the ones that were deleted or forced down were probably at least semi-decent human beings. The elders that are rotten to the core stay in power for eternity. So, the good die young, and the mean just keep on ticking!

  It really irks me! It this were a class, you would be accused of plagiarism and receive an F!

  A word to the wise everyone ... next time someone posts something that is seemingly enlightening or brilliant, copy a string of it and Google it! Sorry to say, you will probably be disappointed.
