I lived in Orem, Utah from 74-84. I think I went to the Dee Event center in 82, 83, 84 and then went back to visit in 86 or so.

Has anyone ever been to the Dee Events Center Utah convention?
by Cheetos ini would love to know if i have any old friends in this forum from my old area i used to live at, it was in the northern utah district, we had our district conventions at the dee events center at weber state university.
i used to be in a lot of dramas a long time ago, until i fell on my head and damaged my brain i lost a big chunk of it on my right frontal lobe and temporal tip, it left me quite fubar at times.
i had so many seizures during the meetings that the seizures were literally killing me, so i stopped going besides being embarrassed by them, i still read the magazines from time to time.. i do my own research sometimes, and yes i know they frown on reading anything that is not printed by them (weird).. oh and don't worry, i am not going to report you to elders for being in this fourm, i have no agenda i just a want a few friends.. .

OMG, I'm going to die :(
by lola28 inbecause it is hot as hell outside, it has to be 113 at least, when you walk outside you feel like you are on fire, someone make it stop!
i can't imagine going out in service in this heat but this morning on my way to work what do i see?
faithful jws walking the streets, should it be considered child abuse to make children go out in ervice in this heat?.

The Greatest Answer In the History of the World!
by smellsgood ini don't know how you will feel about miss south carolina if you view her answer, but i would move for throwing down the irrelevant leaderships of our respective countries (that means you, deleware), and making s.c. empress of the earth for life.
and maybe a few years after death.
surely even as ashes in a jar, she will be as a light of intelligence, clarity, justice, fluidity of speech, and above all, hotness.

Is it ok to shun Jehovah's Witnesses?
by Missanna inlet me explain myself... for instance when your friends and family keep changing their minds... like my sister she didn't want to talk to me, then we started talking again and now she is back to shunning me.
same with my once best friend we were fine with each other's beliefs then one night she tells me in order to have god's favor she has to shun me.
now she's talking to me again.

I'd make a joke out of it the next time the talk to you and say, "oh good, you're not shunning me this week..."

My son is talking about joining the basket ball team.
by Irish Rose ini really hope that he is able to do so.
it is so wonderful not being involved with a group that tells you not to do such a thing.
his dad was on a basket ball team and wrestling in high school, so he's all for it also.

Right on!
I hope he makes the team.

Has anyone found dating as an EX JW difficult?
by sweetstuff injust curious as to what difficulties have faced people dating as an ex jw.
myself, i have noticed the glazed over look in a guy's eyes when you try to explain why your family doesn't celebrate the holidays with you etc.
new to this board, so if this has been well covered before, please forgive me.

Outline of Chapter One: Growing up as a witness teenager and why that seriously will f^ck you up.
What is expected.
A) You're suppossed to be totally obsesive about the bible. Its totally cool! If you don't think its completely awesome, you're going to die at armageddon.
B) Everybody hates you because they all know that you have the "truth" but are they are somehow too stupid to join.
C) Paranoia is your friend! The "bad association" scripture? yeah, that is everyone out there. And just to be safe, better watch out for people in the hall while your at it.
D) The world is going to end any day now so the only thing that matters is how much you pray and beg forgiveness for just being born.
E) You want to be different from the world. That means intentionally going shopping for the most uncool clothes out there.
F) The school is your own private territory. Teachers will respect you more if you use watchtowers and awakes as source material. And what a witness it will be to preach to all the other students. They will like you for it, just remember that they can't be considered a friend until they are approved as an unbabtised publisher (still remembering C, of course).
Outline for Chapter Two: You're growing up! Thats evil!
I'll get to this one later.

Lets see....
Never talking to girls when I was a teenager because of my crazy elder step-dad didn't help.
Being disfellowshipped at 22 and not talking to anyone for 2 years didn't help.
Finally getting out at 27 and seeing that the world is nothing like they say didn't help.
Grrrrr.......
